I have a funny feeling we'll have to get used to seeing Man City captains lifting the PL trophy a lot over the next few seasons! They may well be the new Utd (hated by everyone but their own fans).
I was just think last night, of the top 8 sides in PL, how many can actually be said to have had a good season? By my reckoning, it's actually only two (Everton and Newcastle).
I don't think City can claim winning 'only' the league is a successful return on an investment like that, especially given the CL failure.
Utd can probably feel a bit hard done by to finish runners up with a pts total that would have won them the league on most other years, but an FA and European no show has to mark that season down as disappointing for them.
Arsenal, finished 3rd and did ok in Europe, but another year of winning nothing and never really looking like challenging for any honours............Serious question, would Arsenal fans (Spoons) swap winning two cups (FA and Carling) for their third place/ CL football? If RVP leaves I think Arsenal will really struggle to make CL again next season.
Spurs, did well to make CL and if you had offered them fourth in August I suspect they would have taken it, but having been 13pts (ish) clear of Arsenal and looking like genuine challengers to end up fourth I actually think they underachieved/choked. That will look even worse if Chelsea win the CL and Spurs end up in Europa League next season. Will Bale, Modric and VDV stick around for another season?
Newcastle, did brilliantly IMO. No one, not even the most one-eyed Geordie, thought they would be pushing for CL footy at any stage of the season, let alone on the final weekend. Even now I look at their defence and wonder how the **** they are in the top half of the table, never mind top 5!
Chelsea, did what Chelsea do best. Appointed a new manager to overhaul the ageing team and then when results weren't as good as before they sacked him. I think finishing 6th is a poor season for them, even given the overhaul he attempted. If they win the CL I suspect their fans will be happy enough, but if they lose, an FA win is little consolation for Europa League football and a 6th place finish. What's that saying about all your eggs….
Everton, how they continue to overachieve with a squad the size of theirs I will never know. David Moyes is a miracle worker. You've got to wonder why it is no one has come in and bought them. Is Kenwright taking the piss with his valuation? Also, how long can they keep hold of Baines.
Liverpool. ****! Where do I start!? We all suspected they had over paid massively in the summer and those fears were proved very accurate. While Henderson MAY come good in a few years, ATM he looks lost. Downing tries, but no goals and no assists for a winger speaks for itself. Given the money they spent over the summer to finish 8th is pathetic. Carling cup wins are meaningless, FA cup finals equally so if you don't bother to turn up for the first hour. There are a lot of big decisions to be made at Anfield over the summer. I see them at a crossroads, make the wrong decision and it's years of being mid-table also rans who don't even challenge for CL places. (Insert your own funny)
As for the rest, full credit to Swansea and Norwich for coming up and staying by actually playing football! Both teams are a credit to the league, and better than Liverpool!
Good riddance to Wolves and Blackburn. I've nothing against either club (I hate Mick McCarthy, terrible terrible "manager") but in Wolves case to sack your manager and appoint no one, leaving the team in a tailspin is inexcusable. In Blackburn's case the level of incompetence and general stupidity at Ewood is mind numbing. I fear we may see Blackburn continue to slide down the leagues now.
Wigan, How the hell do they do it!?
Villa Board, WTF did you expect? You appoint a man who specialises in getting team relegated and you stayed up by the skin of your teeth! FFS wise up and sack that retard. My granny (god rest her soul) could do a better job of managing a club.
