Vectis have another auction coming up in April that includes Palitoy, so we will not be finding out the contents of the mystery box until that has been completed.

cheers Jason

Well that ones doomed lol

I think its a wider ranging palitoy auction, not just star wars but everything from tiny tears to star wars. Dave Tree will be in there... :)

I love watching this hype about what is coming, maybe its just me, I like the tease then the reveal.

Well said, me too. I love all vintage toys not just Star Wars.

I'm confused now

Is the earlier April auction the Toy Shop find, and the May/June auction the Sales Rep find?

Yes

What I hate most about this shite is that I'm now wishing my life away like roll on April and June. At this rate I'm going to wake up 50 years old.

It's an interesting thing to speculate about and I guess we all have a dream box contents in mind.
Working in retail (forever) in some shape or form, my experience of a sales reps samples set would likely be one of maybe three options:

A) It could be a collection of just the best selling lines for a quick win for him/her and their customers and in turn to deliver a repeat order.
B) It could be a bulk quantity of slower sellers that needed shifting by the supplier.
C) It could be a mixture of all (as Jason suggests) to give an example of each figure (personally I find this the least likely option).

Sample sets are usually issued free of charge by the company in order to make the sales (although some modern practices are starting to charge for them as part of a salary reduction etc) as they want the rep to sell as much as possible...

Another way of looking at it (especially given the box of six Death Stars) is that it was not so much a rep sample/sales set, but actual stock that a salesman would have delivered at the point of selling them. Only issue I have with that theory is why it would have been kept and not sold. If the salesman had the stock he would have most likely only had it because he bought it (as part of his contract) and therefore would want to sell it in order to make the cash back, or it was an order that he had already received and was paid for by the customer, so it would need delivering, not keeping.

Could the Death Stars be an early POS option that the Rep would issue for free as an incentive or with a large order for the stores to display the figures on???

It's leftover stock from the factory if you read the action man link I posted. The reps were told to grab what they could.

Cheers Jason

Sorry to say this guys, but I'm just happy plodding along collection my few bits and pieces here and there - I'm not really getting caught up with this mass 'Holy Grail' find. Maybe it's because I really only collect the ROTJ stuff, or maybe it's because I have no nostalgia for the earlier items. Either way I won't be getting myself into debt nor getting caught up in all this Vectis auction hype! In my opinion it seems Vectis has gone fishing by throwing out a little bit of bait trying to rile everybody in. I just hope that no one has to sell off half their collections to pay off for one item...

Is there a country of origin on these boxes? Dont know if its been overlooked but to me there looks to be nothing on the pics we see except for item numbers. Im hoping there us some sort of because if not, this could put a dent in the theory that Palitoys were assembled in Hong Kong. By that i mean the figures themselves probably were, but the cards and bubbles were attached here in the UK.

I don't think there's any COO on the cases.

I've always assumed the figures were assembled in the Far East, but then were packaged up in the UK, as per the old Palitoy factory video. Is that not right, or am I misunderstanding you?

From a cost perspective, surely you keep the shipping costs down if you assemble in the UK? Those cases are big to ship half way round the world in assembled form.

I had a fair few questions over the weekend if I had any insight into codes and contents, I'll be starting another thread answering a bunch of Palitoy related questions (not just this)

The evidence suggests that they were assembled in the Far East factories.

The 12 back Palitoy and Kenner cards use the same figures, footers and bubble progression. Take the Jawa 12 back for example:-

http://www.12back.com/features/vcjawa/vcjawa.php3

Also, the factory codes used on the 41 backs and types of bubbles used match.

We wouldn't see this similarity if the figures/bubbles/cards were being assembled in Coalville and Cincinnati.

It'll be good when all of this is fully out in the open, auction pieces listed etc.

Lots of speculation and conjecture, which is interesting, however the child in me is still impatient and I want to see the toys now!! :D

I'd forgotten about the factory codes. They're abit of a giveaway

The video figure is a Zuckuss which is post 45a isn't it?

So they must've switched the assembly to the UK at the end of ESB/start of ROTJ era.

The not knowing messes up peoples buying plans as well. Well mine anyway

Got a bit of a dilemma about whether to buy a couple of things now or whether to wait and see what Vectis have ...

Is there a definitive as to where this actually came from - as I heard Palitoy rep but was speaking with someone in the know last night and they said it came from a shop in Wales ?

It's both, one lot from the toy shop and one lot from the rep, so two different auctions. I think the toy shop stuff is more ROTJ era.

I was confused as well.
