Hi all,

Just thought i would start my first topic with a question that i have wondered about for a while.....why tri logo's
I know people have different taste's in collecting but out of all the MOC's what is so great about the tri logo cards?
I personally think they are ugly and stay away when i am searching out new MOC's.
I am not trying to knock anyone's taste's here but would like to know who agrees with me and the people who don't then what is your argument for them.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and would love to here all your thought's :D

For a start there are many figures only available on trilogos. The last 17. So that gets people interested in them fairly soon after they start collecting.
Also the 4 or 5 rarest general release figures are all trilogo and this creates a buzz around them. It did for me.
I had no interest in them when i started collecting but the more i saw them the more i got into them.
Also it just comes down to personal experience, nostalgia and preference. Many collectors say the same about Jedi cards. They don't think they're as cool, look as good and they never have the same pull as SW and ESB cards. But i am the other way round. I much prefer ROTJ cards to SW cards. Much more nostagic for me and i prefer the figures over-all. Luke Jedi, Squid Head, ERG, Gamorrean Guard to name a few. Nothing on a SW card can touch them in my opinion. But again, it's often all down to each persons original experience of the toys. Mince was much more ROTJ focused. While others (who are older then me) prefer the original 12 more basic looking figures.
To be honest a list of reasons explaining collectors preferences can go on and on. I'm just listing a few.

Thanks Guy's.make's sense...I'm still learning and welcome the feedback!
I prefer the Jedi card's also as they were the one's i had as a kid.
Gonna take a look at those threads..cheers!

Either end of the vintage run holds a great appeal, packed with great stories surrounding the hows whys and wherefores of how things got produced and released. Joe's magnificent Trilogo site was a real eye-opener, although I was always fond of Tri stuff as I remember buying them at the time to fill in gaps in my figure set. I still have a decent little stack o' backers from back then. I don't really have a favourite era of the vintage line, love it all. Just enjoying picking up the odd fig and learning how much depth there is to it all!

Why?

Different images on some cardbacks, which are unique to trilogo's - Luke Bespin, Luke Gunner, Leia Hoth, Stormtrooper etc
Last 17 can only be found on trilogo's not counting POTF
Miscards - loads on trilogo's make for even more of a challenge
Bubbles don't yellow!!
Finding a perfect bubble is a real challenge
Some mega rare figure/cardback trilogo's - Madine, Jawa and Boba Fett
Some people like the big yellow £1.59 price stickers that can be found on trilogo's
A full set is a stunning sight to behold 8)
Added interest of Hybrids - not everyones cup of tea though.

I'm a big fan of them, despite hating them when they first came out when I was a kid. Now I think they are quite a challenge for the collector to get the full set, you need a lot of patience, time and money!!

as pete says the appeal goes back to what you collected as a kid. sw and esb are what i have most fond memories of. i still collected rotj up to a point. i think i was 14 when i stopped in 1985. i remember when i was 14 and going into the local toy store and pretending the figures i bought where for my imaginery little brother!
I think a lot of moc collectors start with tri-logos and rtj because of the affordability and easier to aquire factors of some of the cards. i certainly can not afford sw cards at this time and i have a couple of cards which are tri and a rotj kenner. also the last 17 hold no nolstagia with me and there are only 7 from that line that appeal to me! Horses for courses

Tri Logo's why??

Because its like starting collecting ROTJ's from the start all over again......

But with sprinkles.

Being from the states, tri-logos were not quite as common. Kaybee toys had them and towards the end of the run they were like 2 for a $1.00  . I have come to liking them more as my other runs of carded are pretty much complete Kenner wise. They also have cool images on them. I could go on, but my boner for them is not quite as hard as Joes.

I use to bypass them as a teenager mainly due to the fact I thought they were foreign but I think some look really cool, love the glossy cards although not all are and most with crystal clear bubbles, I prefer the imp dig and imp gunners tri cards more than their POTF cards.
