I'm feeling all nostalgic since Jeff managed to find "Other World" for me. :D

So on that note what things got you chuffed as a kid, I'm talking pre-teenaged years when life was simple. :D

I'll get the ball rolling.

Star Wars
Weekends and my Grandparents (watching Other World  )
Building rope swings
BMX's
BMX Bandits (always wanted to take my BMX down a water slide after that).
Mixed Bag of 1p sweets
Kids TV Programmes after school
Digging massive holes on the beach
Transformers
Stop over's with mates
Radio controlled cars (Tamiya Hot Shot II)
Spectrum computers games that took 15mins to load
Not having to do home work.
Italia 90
Panini Stickers
Garbage Pal Kids trading cards

Man it was an easy life back then...Happy Days. :D

Two that popped into my mind after reading your list...

Saving my lunch money to buy Panini football stickers
Discovering I could withdraw money from my bank account without Mum knowing

There are many many more though.

BTW I have got a Hotshot 2 in my cupboard, still in running condition 8)

Dunno...

More exciting to me back then than Star Wars was Scalextric. Loved getting a new car and taking it for a spin or making a cool new track :D

Collecting footy stickers was huge at our school - Footy '86 and the World Cup Mexico albums were probably the last i collected.

Being allowed to pick a new Matchbox car

Having a nice ice cream from the shop or on holiday.

Loads of things really, mainly involving a new toy or playing out with mates. Good times :) I reckon the average kid had it pretty good in the 70's/80's

Playing footy with mates
Going with mates and building dens
Saving school lunch money to buy 10 cigarettes
Holidays in Cornwall, Cornish ice cream, pasties, camp site shop always had toys, every year I got a Kite shaped like a golden eagle
Getting dandy and Beano annuals
TV after school
School holidays
School trips
Youth club discos
Fish and chips...pre vat
The wooden tray in sweet shop full of penny sweets

Oh happy days when life was simple :D

Great post this :D

Buying footy stickers, transformer and ghostbusters stickers when they were 10p for 5. My youngest is collecting turtles stickers now................................50P

Raiding my mum's pantry for the tin foil after building robots out of cardboard boxes and loo rolls and wanting to give them that final 'futuristic lustre' to the end product.

The aroma of 'Gloy Glue'. No, I have never considered myself to be a juvenile glue sniffer, but that smell once you cracked the metal tip and it oozed out really was something special. Wild eyed, it was 'no holds barred creativity all the way'. Hell, yes.

And in my later years (1983 to be exact), this series appeared on TV... and I looked at my Sinclair ZX Spectrum (complete with Thermal Printer) and always wondered why my 'set up' never had consoles full of flickering lights and hooked-up robotic arms performing namby pamby ballet moves.

Yes, it still smarts. Just a little.

Is that how much stickers were back in the day? I thought they were 10 or 12p ('85-'86)

Slightly random story but I got to go in a Morrisons staff canteen the other day (I don't work for Morrisons by the way) and the vending machine was cheap as chips, like 35p for a Mars bar, 60p for a Pot Noodle  It was as if I had gone back in time 20 years or so :) Staff canteens rule 8)

I work for the NHS, and our vending machine in the canteen is at the other end of the scale... 95p for a pack of Cadbury's Buttons. And that's if you can manage to coax the blasted thing out of the dispenser once inserting your hard earned cash. That vending machine has been rocked more times...

...rocked more times than an ... ...no, best not go there

Panini Stickers definitely and even more so when a new sticker album came out!
Star Wars Toys (of course)
Sausage and Tomato Crisps (loved these as a kid)
When my Mum finally caved in and bought.................A SODA STREAM!!!!!!
Being allowed to stay up late because of a special event or something good on the TV
THURSDAYS!! - Pocket Money day and the day my Mum did the big food shop!
Rock Around The Choc Ice Lollies - god I loved those
Garbage Pail Kids Stickers
Masters of the Universe Figures
Spooky Chews - Bubble gum with a monster pin badge, loads of different monsters to collect
Pulling a sickie to get out of having to go to school - did this a lot and got away with it!!
Going out on my bike with my mates - the fun we had

Football stickers alright, I remember collecting all the weekly parts of the Mexico '86 album with all the stickers in the lever arch folder :D

Topps Star Wars cards, remember playing 'Flicksies' was massive in my school, basically flicking star wars card against a wall, whichever card landed closet, winner took both cards :D I remember SW cards only came available in Ireland in the Green boarder series 4. There was a fella that had a load of Series 1 blue boarder cards from the US and you had to beat him like 5:1 to win one blue card

Camping out my mates back gardens, usually lasted till 11pm or till it got dark!

Getting to watch a scary Video cassette on a sleepover, 'Nightmare on Elm Street' scared the bejesus out of me.... :?

Playing footy on the freshly cut green area on the summer holidays. Piled up the cut grass as goal posts :) also the annual footy match versus the Spanish students that used to come over in the summers.

My BMX, loved BMX Bandits aswell....

Swimming in the cold Irish sea....happy days :D

I'm sure there was loads more but thats just off the top of my head

Finding a big stash of Grot mags someone had hidden in a wood.

Burning stuff and setting fires.

Awesome, mine is in the loft somewhere, hasn't seen day light since the early 90's. Might have to get it out and post a pic on here. Some great memories.

Did you paint yours the original black paint scheme?

Now you're talking :p

Spent half my childhood burning stuff.

Finding wank mags in the woods .. kids these days probably don't even know what one is  Imagine being 13 now with hardcore porn just a Google search away. Just not the same as a Fiesta that's been chucked in a hedge and soaked with dog piss and leaves

Snow - especially when it meant we got off school. Something utterly brilliant about the bus driver saying it was too snowy to take us to school and going sledging and having snowball fights instead.

Arcade games

The winter catalogues because the had all the toys in, summer catalogues were **** in comparison

Any seasonal event - Bonfire night, Halloween

Tiswas on a Saturday morning :D

Knives - lock knives, swiss army, sheath or pen

Remember thinking pot noodles were amazing!

Mexico 86 and Italia 90. Did anyone collect the footie cards which were plastic? You got them with a scratch card game and you had to score a goal by scratching the route of the ball to the goal.
ZX Spectrum especially football manager games with mates. Later Amiga.
Sat morning cartoons
50 aside football matches at school
Star Wars and MOTU
Xmas
School films in the main hall on a projector
Virtually all 80s films aimed at kids
Holidays to Cornwall

Great thread :D

Xmas day with my family (in fact the whole Xmas holidays).
Shoot magazine and Eagle and Battle Action Force Comics.
Panini Football, ROTJ and Action Man sticker albums.
Getting a new Tintin book.
TV after school and Saturday mornings.
Thursday night discos at the leisure centre.
Going to Anfield with my dad, or just watching Liverpool on TV when we were the best team in the world
Agree on the scud mags - it was always a great thrill to happen across a carrier bag filled with some husband's shameful stash while playing in the woods
Being able to stay out and play late at night during the summer holidays
Going to the local sports shop in town with a pocket full of 10p's (they always had cool arcade games there)
Commodore 64 games (the anticipation of having to wait 10 minutes for a game to load is something simply unknown by the kids of today)
Going out Halloweening, then going to the chippy and spending the proceeds on chips and Space Invaders

Yup, its in black, I got gold wheels for it too. 8)

Got it out a while ago, stripped and cleaned it, added ball bearings (I always wanted to ball-race it) and stuck in an electric speed controller. I think the speed controller might be dodgy, it always cuts out at top end. Maybe ebay is full of fake Tamiya speed controllers too.

Done the same with my Grashopper 2, cleaned, ball raced, same speed controller issues. I might stick a 380 motor in it so its slow enough for junior to use and the battery lasts longer.

I have got the remnants on Mumbo's midnight Pumpkin somewhere, might even have enough to get it up and running.

I have got to get some pics up in the other collections thread. And you have got to get the mini box wrench out and service yours.
