Things are looking up at the Villa

Yeah, the sooner UEFA/FIFA bring in a proper wage cap the better for football's long term survival.
The current financial fair play thing will be wriggled round by rich owners 'lending' their clubs money on paying for stadium naming rights for a season at £500 million etc etc.

As for Martin Kelly. Decent prospect. Solid enough, young RB, who has been called into a few England squads. Nothing spectacular, but a solid enough squad player.
As for him wanting 45k a week.........jog on son!
If he gets a quarter of that I think he'll be more than suitably paid. Putting aside the fact that that equates to 1/2 a million quid a year and that's a ridiculous amount for one player to earn.
Is he seriously saying he is worth, 40-50% of what Gerrard/Suarez earn? Say what you like about Suarez as a person, but both he and Gerrard and seriously good players who most European sides would be more than happy to have in their teams.

Martin, son, your agent is making you look like a ****!

Very true Weasel about Kelly

Good enough prospect but thats it...

Carragher deserves more money purely out of loyalty, you should be rewarded for loyalty over age and ability in my eyes...

Ipswich £60m in debt...  how the **** did that happen??

Basically though overspending on wages when we were in the Prem, not having contracts in place that adjusted when we got relegated, and then for paying good Championship wages but not getting promoted for the past 10 years of so !

There must be loads of clubs in a similar situation - look at Birmingham and Forest at the moment - this can not go on - trouble is, none of the big clubs will ever agree to a maximum wage - the likes of Forest, Derby, Ipswich and even Villa will never win the title again

As i said in the other thread, if Villa stay up it's because there are 3 worse sides, not because they are good enough. Given QPR look doomed, Villa need only finish above two other teams and they are safe.......for another season.

On that note, QPR must be in all kinds of trouble if they go down. Tony Fernandez will have to shell out a fortune in wages, i think their wage bill is already 160% of turnover. Plus a lot of their winter signings will have relegation release clauses so i would assume the club will be taking a hit on re-sale value.

I cheered like we won a cup yesterday! Relieved to say the least, but Weasel I 100% agree with you... the only way we will stay up is because of worse teams around us.

QPR are doomed. Could be the next Portsmouth

Yeah and you gotta look at how they played yesterday. VERY lucky to win only their 3rd home game of the season. A penalty and a free-kick. Otherwise you weren't getting anything out of it. West Ham weren't much cop either and have the lowest away scoring record in the league. Anyone else, anyone, and i don't think you'd have got anything out of that game yesterday.

We played ok in the first half but until the penalty we were being pounded in the second half.

I just don't understand the team ethos at the minute - we usually have one good half and then just slip away.

Another positive was that we didn't concede from a corner and they had a few :)

I fear for Villa, and i feel sorry for Lambert.

Randy Lerner wants rid of Villa, h has said as much, and he isnt pumping any money in, so Lambert had to work on a shoestring. Ok, plenty of managers have to and they manage to do a better job than Lambert. Some of them even try to get their team to score! I just think Lambert had his laces tied together and was then asked to run a marathon. Unless Villa get taken over soon i could see them going down and god knows how long it'll take them to com back up. If they do go down, one thing is for dam sure, their value will more than halve as will the odds of anyone wanting them. Why buy a fallen star when you could buy a club already in the PL for just as much?
