I just voted for Yak - a very British perspective on here (unsurprisingly). Fact is he wasn't made for the US market so there will be less of him than the rest of the last 17, but that diesnt mean he's rare

Also I've not been looking for last 17 so had to vote from memory. Luke Stormie with a true black blaster must be up there though

He was also made for the Canadian market (Trickled to the states) and those pesky tri-logos made their way here, as well. :D

Still got to be 'rarer' than the rest ;)

Possibly in 1984 but not now. By virtue of Yak not being that popular back then and so many more surviving compared to the R2 which a quick ebay search will tell you, got beat to **** and or lost parts or just disappeared altogether due to be being by far the most popular of the last 17.

Surely the rarest one is always the one you want? No matter the figure there's never one you want in the condition you want, at the price you want, when you are looking.

You've got to factor the value in too Pete - always more people cashing in on Yak than other figures as people buy Yak to flip to a larger extent. VC Jawas are over represented on eBay too, but although not 'rare' they are less common than other first 12 but eBay doesn't really tell the full story.

Anyway the question was what is the rarest figure, not rarest mint figure and haven't you just cut and pasted the above from RS :P

I agree that in the UK an R2 with saber is probably rarest but still think globally Yak is rarer - don't think either of us is about to change their mind

ODB I has nailed it anyway :)

Ayyyy??? :? No idea what that means. I don't use RS. I haven't looked at anything on there in years other than the odd link that gets posted on here.

I agree tho, the "rarest complete" was something added onto the poll after the fact cos it's arguable whether an incomplete figure really counts. But i guess that's a different argument; does a figure need to be complete to be counted. I certainly think so but that's just my view.
I guess you have a point on ebay not telling the whole story, no doubt. Tho there's very little else to go on. I know at the moment there are 11 complete loose Yaks on ebay.uk and 1 R2 pop-up.
When i was buying Yaks a few years back i didn't just buy them from the UK. I found them all over. I got about 9 or 10 from Germany. A couple from france, one from Holland one from the US and a few from the UK and on the forums. I still search for them but never end up pulling the trigger but i am well versed on how many there are at least for sale out there. The R2 i've not had as in depth a relationship with as a collector but i do search for them every now and then and very rarely see a complete one. and if it is it's not in great condition.
It took me a little under 2 years to buy 23 complete Yak Faces. And there were plenty more out there to pick if i had had the funds. But almost 1 a month for 2 years isn't bad. 8)
It's only my guess but i personally doubt someone could do the same with complete pop-up R2s. Incomplete, possibly.

I guess the only real way to judge the level of existence of Yaks and R2s would be to take a poll and find out how many of each each member has. You then tally them up with the amount that you can find on ebay and that's the best number you're gonna get. Everything else would be guess work.

*Disclaimer: again, just my considered opinion, expressed in hope of opening up further, interesting discussion on the subject and not in any way designed to have a go at anyone else choices or opinions.

I have heard rumors about pete have bought nearly all the yak face in the world or do you only have 23 :?

sorry Pete - the exact same argument appeared on Rich's post on RS yesterday. I've been accused of copying from there in the past so shouldn't have been so quick to jump to conclusions

Not wishing to usurp this thread but a quick question which kind of flips this on its head...

I'm looking to remove some dings from my bubbles which will likely involve sticky tape and/or possibly a Dyson (gulp!). Since they all mean the same to me sentimentally, which is likely to mean less to me financially if I **** it up!? An ewok perhaps?

Ta!

It wouldn't be particularly nice if you damaged any of them Lom, even the Ewoks!

I've had pretty good success over the years with tape on Trilogo bubbles, I really wouldn't advise the hoover (although I've done it myself) unless you are a) super careful and b) not going to cry should you **** it up.

Good luck..before and after pictures please :)

Honestly never read it. Ever. But greats minds think alile i guess. 8)
I don't even know if my account is still alive. I know i have an unread message rom Josh on there ranting and swearing (i can only assume). We'll never know.

2 R2 pop ups on la thread in last week......coincidence or just not as rare as people think? I would say an EV9D9 with arms intact is just as rare......and can command more money. Im surprised at the votes for Luke Stormie, readily available if you have the cash. Can't see myself owning these figures anytime soon......sad face.

With R2 weeks and weeks can go by and all that is available are non complete examples/repro decals/repro sabers - LOADS OF THOSE!

Finding a complete original one in good condition compared to the others is very difficult - the decal and the saber tend to be the achilles heel with this figure. EV9D9 it is just the left arm. While Luke stormtrooper again has 2 major problems discolouration and the correct Black Blaster - I think that is why he has quite a few votes.

But like all things R2 has the 'bus effect' - 2 or 3 nice examples showing up within a week, but then nothing but incomplete or repro crap for weeks on end.

You'll never guess who accused me of 'copying' ;)

A prime example of the crazy money being exchanged for pop up R2's these days. And from what I can see this is a pretty average example too (atleast it's complete).

Yeah, see, that's why i don't even own one. That one is no where near nice enough for me to spend money on and yet goes for silly money. Don't recall the last time i saw a mint example. :?

Dont know what it is with the loose pop up R2 lately...one has just sold for £127 on fleabay

I was watching that one too out of curiosity. A much better example than the last one I saw go for almost a tonne! Still a crazy price though...and not as good as my one. :D
