The Brexit impact on the SW UK marketplace revealed?

The trilogo Boba Fett I bought from America a few months back would have cost about £500 less this time last year. If I'd have bought it now, it would have cost about £100 more than I paid.

This is not scare mongering, it is very real. Agree with Simon though, no slagging matches please.

The drop in GBP value will only get worse when article 50 is emposed so purchasing isnt the bet idea lol

on the flip side our exporting becomes more desirable, our company is investing and spending but its going to be a turbulent time.

Unfortunately the negative impact on the Star Wars market is but the tip of the iceberg, it will be very interesting to see what happens when the forex changes filter through to everyday goods (eg fuel and food).

I'd like to add that I'm a London cabby, and that the last few months have been the best for this time of year for several years. Many of us won't be going abroad due to all this, but look at this the other way round - the loss should be offset by not only more tourists coming over to spend, but those of us who normally travel abroad will now be staying in the UK and spending our money here. It won't be massively noticeable just yet as tourists will generally have booked trips to the UK months in advance, so with any luck we'll see a gradual increase of foreign spending coming in from people who booked post Brexit.

Will be interesting to hear of others here who notice that the business they work in is doing better than expected. Aren't there already reports that the UK economy as a whole is beating forecasts?

Totally, when this filters through we're really going to feel it. The world is falling apart: there's no Martmite in Tescos

The company I work for is about to announce that we haven't hit our targets, and nobody will be getting bonuses. One of our digital brands which has grown every year for the last 15+ years is making a loss for the first time ever. We're an entertainment company so when the economy is uncertain, it's one of the first things people stop spending money on.

I'm sorry as a civil servant I haven't had a real terms payrise for 6 years, so Brexit is just the tip of the iceberg. All these problems started 8 years ago when the bankers decided they'd overplay their poker hands!

I'm a civil servant too, Andy, so know where you're coming from. Except change "real term" for "any". At the top of the band payscale they even screw you out of the pathetic 1%. In a word: motherfuckers.

Yes for sure, the whole "we dont know" piles on the pressure, you can read one statement that its falling apart then read say one in the guardian

https://www.theguardian.com/business/2016/sep/21/post-referendum-gloom-fears-confounded-economic-evidence

that its not all that bad, hasnt it just been our ecnony for the last 8 years like Andy C said

Our good times were pre 2007/8, then we've had Uber to contend with last few years. It's been better last few months, but overall my earnings have never returned to pre 2007/8 levels. The first few months of this year were the worst I've known in the 12 years I've been doing it. Lot of cabbies have handed their cabs back and either gone back to former trades or working for supermarket delivery.

You know things are looking ****ed up when you can't even buy a Chicken & Mushroom Pot Noodle from Tesco.

Yeah what's happening there then? Been seeing stuff about no more Marmite?

Something to do with Tesco not giving into Unilevers demand for a price hike on their product range since Brexit.

Eevn though some of the products are manufactured here in the UK! :D

My mate has and apparantly they are selling up, just wondering if you knew how far along they were.

I think the pound will grow stronger closer to the presidential election... Especially if Trump edges ahead, but then again Clinton isn't shy of a few skeletons in her closet. Either way I think next month we should see a stronger £.

I've experienced the increase interest from abroad via my eBay auctions in the past week. However, I think i will end up way below what I would have got this time last year though regardless.

That's ok these things happen. But I think I will not make back what I paid out. I am not sure that is not just my bad buying / trading rather than Brexit.

On the wider issue of Brexit. I can't believe they took such a flimsy argument to the British public. However, once the result was known the responsible way to behave would have been to display "Positive positive and more positive" instead we get "choppy waters ahead" doom and gloom and negativity like more referendums for Scotland. It all adds up to yet more reason to keep the employees of the world under austerity in a different guise while very rich people get even richer.

They feckers are like the Galatic Empire, the dark times, before the rebellion !
