I really enjoyed the first episode, it has some appalling moments in it though.
!!!!!---WARNING -SPOILERS AND SOME LONG-WINDED CRAP AIRING MY OPINIONS---!!!!!
The sound is great fun, Tie fighters roaring overhead, swooshing speederbikes, laser blasts and as Jez & JK said great use of the SW music.
Some of the action scenes are fairly good and its nice to see Stormies getting shot and blown up (I thought Disney might bottle it and just let them get knocked out or use droids as a generic enemy). A few good explosions to with a bit of lightsabre wielding that was nicely saved for later in the show.
Some of it was poor though, the character animations weren't great, plot was a bit wayward (sorry I know its for kids), some of the backdrops and scenery were sparse. It just seemed a bit empty and hollow at times, especially the scenes on Kessel. The Wookies were terrible, model wise, animation wise and story wise. It just looked like this scene was rushed in at the last minute, really made me cringe and was only saved by Kanan appearing on the Ghost wit his sabre and the ruthless Imperial killing the friendly Stormie (which I was quite surprised by).
I watch Ninja Turtles which is also CGI and the action scenes are really good, quick actions, great angles, super slow-mo's, compared to this Star Wars Rebels looks like something from the last decade. Jr Jr found it a bit boring (even though he managed to watch it all  ). I was expecting something of TMNT standards, I feel it fell short.
It was also a bit irritating having the stereotypical Disney hero, tanned, dark hair and big blue eyes who could have fitted into the lead male in Aladdin, Little Mermaid, Tangled, Jungle book and many more.
Having said that though, it was enjoyable and I am really looking forward to the next episode. Once it finished I watched all the 5 min teasers again in my quest for more SW Rebels and re-watched the episode again today.
Hopefully though it will improve on the first episode in the same way Clone Wars improved on the feature length opener.
