Skeleton Crew - December

So here's the thing, despite good reviews and positive word of mouth - work on the net is no one is tuning in to watch Skeleton Crew. The Nielsen Charts aren't out yet but the Luminate Chart is in and it doesn't look great for SC - or in fact for Disney - https://variety.com/h/most-watched-streaming-originals-movies-tv-shows/

In fact Disney have ZERO content in the top ten for either TV or Film (Originals).

Fingers crossed viewing figures pick up since SC is great fun so far and I don't believe for a second the creators planned for it to be a one season thing. But I am wondering now if it is suffering due to everything that has gone before and some people (a lot of people) are just not bothering as they have been put off SW altogether???

Sadly, it seems Skeleton Crew has been 'Solo'd'.
Whereby, a decent, 'not terrible' creation has suffered from following on from a truly dire one.

Unfortunately, the accumulation of dire DisneySW content has taken its toll.
Being 'not terrible' Star Wars isn't going to cut the mustard now. Apathy has truly set in.
KK has got her wish and chased away a good chunk of the old fans and there aren't enough new fans being generated to boost the ratings.

As someone who experienced the excitement of the OT glory years, the current mis-management induces both anger and sadness for this once great franchise.

If Andor and 'Mando & Grogu' fall on their arses, I fear for the future of SW.

Episode 4 was a little slow, but still kept us going with more intrigue re: the planets and Jod. Loving this, so far. Very impressed with the kids!

I just haven't bothered, and I'm not sure I will. Andor season 2 on the other hand can't arrive soon enough

I agree, ep4 was a bit pedestrian, really hope "this isn't the way" the rest will go. 🤞
This has a fair bit of potential.

EP4 was a little slower, but story wise it needed to move things on - which I think it did well enough, there was a little action mixed in there and again it was enjoyable to watch. Hopefully now we have a fair chunk of the mystery out there we enter the classic 'first to the treasure wins' race as pirates catch up with them.

I think staying away (for the most part) from Jedi and Sith and Empire/Republic and all that is a breath of fresh air for this one - it isn't bogged down with that history.

we're half way through now anyway, so I can't imagine things will go slowly - too many open threads to close and only around 2hrs of run time left to do it....

Was this always going to be a one off season or has anyone heard of plans for a season 2?

Sorry, 12 minutes in and I don't care. "Pick a career path", you can't do this, you blah blah blah

Another great episode! Some lovely touches in this one- great direction from Bryce. Stop motion giant crab was ace and loved the way the ship shed it's skin. Great plasma sand timer, as well. The kids just get better and better.

Yep - not much to say beyond echoing the view that it was a great, fun episode. I loved the character journeys here, the effects were on point, the crab and ship sequence was a cracker - Bryce really is a great director - more of the same please

So, rather predictably the Nielsen numbers are in a SK doesn't get into the top ten. There maybe some hope that with more kids on break later in Dec that it sneaks in, but despite being a good show, well made and very enjoyable, with generally good reviews and word of mouth and all that - no one is watching, or not enough people to justify the $130m price tag and likely not enough people to justify a season 2....

The makers of the show must be pulling their hair out over this and I am sure cursing The Acolyte.

Well, I'm off to watch the latest episode now and enjoy a quite break in my morning :)

It sucks that SC is getting pushed down because Acolyte was so bad. Honestly, I wasn't even going to bother with it at first, because I'd been so let down by how plastic Acolyte felt, but I'm glad i gave it a shot because I've enjoyed watching it.

It's already been said that the kid actors have been brill and i completely agree, especially because they do a really good job of playing *kids*. Sometimes, kid characters can feel either like mini adults or personality-less plot devices, it's cool to see kids in Star Wars that you feel like you could walk past in the street. Seeing the two lads playing Jedi in the first episode brought back some good memories of playing with my brother when we were young!

This series has been such a breath of fresh air and perfect family viewing. Lovingly and imaginatively made. Looking forward to final episode next week.

A huge shame that the viewing figures are disappointing. Hopefully is will stay consistent and keep bubbling away, like Andor did, so we get a hugely deserved second season. Fingers crossed 🤞

It's the only Disney+ Star Wars series that I will rewatch, and I'm looking forward to doing it too.
