Following the recent movement against U-grades (which personally I fully support) we have been discussing banning the sale of them on the forum to try and help put people off the practice. However as I'm sure many of you own U-graded items I thought it best to put to public poll. If an over-whelming majority support the ban, we'll add it to the sales forum rules. If not, although many still don't condone the practice the sale of them will continue to be allowed.

Over to you guys!

Voted yes. Should definitely be banned.

The part of the hobby that I despise more than any other.

Voted for a ban on them; I simply don't see the appeal of destroying something vintage, however battered it may be, in order to create something ugly and essentially non-vintage. By not implementing the ban it only perpetuates the acceptance of the practice IMO

I think it's a good idea on the Forum as we(the royal) don't like them. I sold the two I had soon after joining the forum because I got info about them on here. Raising awareness is the key. I don't think it will make much difference elsewhere, some people blindly want them as a mark of condition and will collect them anyway. Not endorsing them here, I vote yes.

Voted yes, its definitely a practice that should be deterred.
If its allowed to flourish unchecked new collectors have no chance of breaking in to this hobby if beaters only mean pound signs to people.

I think if that happens the "No UGrade" banner needs to be removed. Bit hypocritical otherwise.

It's awareness campaign until C7, as such it seems to be going well. Repros are banned on rebelscum and on here.
Let's add U-grades into the mix.

All this banning seems to be going a bit crazy. I read a lot of the posts and like looking at other peoples collections and new finds. But I would be wary of listing anything on here for sale or trade as there is a general air of aggression (It's passion really, but does come across quite aggressive to the outsider) that is very daunting.

Would it not be better just to allow people to sell stuff they have, as long as it is clearly listed. You don't have to buy it if you don't agree with it. And you can then educate people if you want to.

Banning it forces it onto ebay, and then there is no way of explaining why you see it as a bad thing.

Just some thoughts.

Cheers

Playing Devil's advocate, getting rid of this stuff from civilised collecting circles sends a message about what
the community thinks about them. This may in turn, make them less desirable to collect as they are own available
on ebay which some people are not keen on using. In turn, this reduces the demand for u-grades and in turn causes
the prices of u-grades to drop to the point where the price matches that of the same figure on a beater card, which
makes it a non profitable operation, and people stop u-grading for profit, which is where most of the submissions
are these days.

Make a stand. Ban this plague that is destroying carefully preserved collectables and inflating the price beyond the enjoyment of the fans.

Banning it also lets people know it's wrong and will deter future collectors from ever getting involved with barbaric methods like UGrading. It's the allowance and acceptance of repros and UGrading on forums and the "ah, you can't do anything about it" brigade that have cultivated such idiotic and destructive practices. We're trying to build a future where people come into the hobby and know right away- 'ah, that's something you do not do'. No more mixed messages and apathy allowing collectors to feel like it's an ok thing to do.
Members here and on other forums should not feel comfortable coming on and selling repros and UGrades. That's the entire point. Just because people may go and do it on ebay that is absolutely no reason to allow it here. Jesus, at the very minimum we should be able to claim we are at least better morally structured that ebay!

Voted yes to ban them. I wish people would stop destroying sealed items and filling AFAs bloody pockets at the same time.

I would rather see a loose figure resealed to it's original card versus some crusty handed nerd ripping one from it's card and assigning some number to it that they pulled out of there ass and totally destroying a vintage item all in the name of greed.

**** U grades and those who continue to support it.
