a sellers auction states i accept paypal but only as friends and family in his listing contact me for my email address. why would a seller do that? saving a couple of quid whats the point. annoyingly its something id like. twatty seller. i think il report the auction!

At best it sounds like he's trying to avoid PayPal fees; at worst he's a scammer. Paying this way you'd get no protection from PayPal or ebay, so don't go anywhere near it and definitely report it.

This is against eBay rules, so worth reporting him.

Be interesting to see if they have got away with it before though.
