Royal Mail Price Changes 02/04/13

Guys, just a quick warning. Post Offices seem to be taking this opportunity to rip people off, I have a feeling this may have happened to a few based on this thread

This morning I went to post a record. I post dozens of records a year, and a single record always costs the same (previously £2.20 second class, now £2.60.) This morning the joker behind the counter tried to charge me £5.20 for second class, and when confronted about it his reply was "prices have gone up recently." Obviously as I send so many of these I knew what it should cost and demanded to speak to the manager. He confirmed £2.60 was the correct price.

So to those of you that are reporting double/triple costs rather than a nominal increase, beware. Bastards.

All post offices are franchised now so when you say RM are ripping people of its not actually RM. ok we set the prices but each post office is technically its own business, I have hear I this before, my mum had the same problem before the price changes. Was told it was a packet when actually was a large letter, lady behind the desk was very reluctant to try it through the size guide as well.

I feel a lot of them will use the price rises as a disguise to not charge the correct price, and this then leads on to people saying RM are thriving bastards.

That's ok, small technicality, ill let you off!!

As I work for Royal Mail I am astounded at the amount of stories coming out of post offices not charging the correct prices since the changes.

I had it on my delivery the other day, virtually the same size and weight packet, both posted first class yet one was higher in postage costs than the other. I even checked the weight to see if it went into the next weight category and it was nowhere near. Checked in the size guide we have in office and both for through the small parcel slot so couldn't work it out. I have watched them in the past when checking and they are very slapdash, slightest bit of resistance and no, it won't go through.

the only logic reason is because royal mail want courier and parcelforce to handle parcels, and let RM delivery letters and little packets.

i priced up a small box at £9.10 with royal mail and £3.99 with collect+ drop off, its a simple no brainier, i think RM simply dont want to handle these large packages.

I just got absolutely raped sending a parcel to Australia. 1.8kg, within the acceptable size for medium parcels, £32.50 for international signed for  I know the same size package would have been under £20 before the price rises. ****ing joke.

I was £20.10 TO Germany for just over 1.5kg. Only two mocs.

I was £6.95 for two Mocs in the uk 0.330kg

I just about **** myself

Thanks

Vince

Recieved a £23 charge on a £16 package today (because it went over the £15 limit) and a customer contacted me saying that the post office witheld an elvelope i sent because they wanted another £2.70 on top of the 90p i already paid (AN ENVELOPE WITHIN THE UK!!). In case you're wondering how big the envelope was, it fit in the ****ing post box with no folding or bending. Cunts. Absolute ****ing cunts.
Who was it saying they're not thieving bastards again??

Well it sure wasn't me saying they are not thieving bastards as they are!

I sent an item out that I sold on ebay for £2.60 & it just & I mean just fit through the slot for small parcels in a padded envelope (don't panic not vintage or breakable), the guy wanted to send it back & he put it in a box, not admitedly he sent it back first class & signed for, but it had £6.75 on the stamp  I felt pretty sorry for the guy TBH

Just paid 90p to send a letter. Now 90p is nothing I know that but it was in a small envelope. I folded 2 pieces of a4 paper up too many times and it didn't quite fit in the slot. I would have got it through the bloody slot

OK, here's the thing. You have to now beat the royal mail at their own game to avoid things like this happening. If you play the game, then you'll actually come out on top.

I used to box all my items in flat boxes that fit through a letter box before the postage charges increased as I knew my items would be well packaged that way, and buyers don't mind paying the £2,20 it cost to send well packaged boxes 2nd class. I basically never bothered to measure my packets. Now its imperative to do so.

Here's your new friend.......

You need to make yourself one of these, and the aim of the game is to package your items well enough that they are protected whilst staying inside the rules.
I now mainly use jiffy bags for sending single or even double figures. You can get away with lightly bubble wrapping most figures before sliding them into a bubble protected jiffy bag.

The new guidelines state that 'large letters' must be no thicker than up to & including 2.5cm! (Ignore the fact your parcel fits through a letter box, thats totally irrelevant in terms of the charges). This means even if your package scrapes the sides of the measurer but still goes through, then its ok. DO NOT let a post office clerk tell you is a packet because it scrapes the sides of the large letter slot. This is BS, and its just the PO trying to run up the bill.

So with a bit of shrewdness @ the packing stage, you can actually still protect your items securely and get away with paying either 69p 2nd class or 90p first class, Thus putting less money than before in RM's pocket where you may have blindly been happy sending items out in boxes @ 2,20 or 2,60 respectively before the price hike.

Any items larger than this, you can weigh up the pro's and cons of using collect+ or similar versus royal mail.

Think smart, and the new charges can actually work in your favour!!

Understood, but this was an envelope. With a piece of paper in it. Sent within the UK. Total cost after i had to refund the customer their £2.79 charge = £3.69
Dirty. Thieving. Cunts.
