Was having a nose about ebay etc and found some very expensive reseals

Trilogo Jawa - Even a reseal of this figure commands a hefty price tag

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/VINTAGE-STAR-WARS-TRI-LOGO-JAWA-RESEALED-MOC-/230911041832?pt=AU_Action_Figures&_uhb=1&hash=item35c35ee128&nma=true&si=3o6T%252BWWC2PrgIdT8Ulmxu5P6HdY%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Meccano Stormtrooper - Would have loved this for my collection, but at that price for a reseal and not exactly great condition

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Star-Wars-Vintage-Square-Carded-French-Meccano-Stormtrooper-C-6-Resealed-/400532527894?pt=US_Action_Figures&hash=item5d41995b16&nma=true&si=JaZdBMnmZzawQIEgTtprZspONT4%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Anyone know of any other expensive reseals?

Collecting ESB backs at the moment and some are very pricey. It depends what you call a reseal though. I class these as the following: sliced bubbles, loose bubbles, resealed bubbles, repro or replaced bubbles. All of those are ok for me but not repro cards. Then you've got beaters which can be anything from a bent up and creased card, replaced pop, damaged bubbles, etc.

The most expensive ones seem to be some of the main characters - Luke, Han, Leia, R2. Boba Fett looks to be the hardest to find. Can't see one cropping up for reasonable money.

I'm guessing that the Mecco Stormtrooper is super rare and the Mecco leia that sold at the same time also went for a fair amount. The most I've seen a 12 back Palitoy reseal go for was around 200 GBP but I know a good conditioned 30 back Boba Fett or yoda would probably go for more. I've noticed over the years the price of reseals has gone both up and down so I figure it's just who's after it at the same time. If sealed examples of some figures never come up for sale then I'd expect the price of a good conditioned reseal to go quite high. Who knows what amount a 12 back Palitoy VCJ would go for.......Actually I've just remembered that the only Palitoy VCJ card back and bubble that I did see on ebay went for 250GBP, it didn't have the Jawa but did have the right style bubble. It was a few years ago that it sold when there was a lot of debate about if this version existed but I'm guessing with the recent find of a sealed one it could go for more if it came up again.

holy crap!!

Those are expensive. Especially the trilogo Jawa. Rarer than other Trilogos I know but that much!?!?!

Like other vintage are these rising in price?

I know as a noob you can buy reseals, my question, in regard to rarer items would be, how realistic would it be to bring together the components from separate sources, and put an item together yourself

This would be from an own collection point of view, I can obviously see the issue here where the unscrupulous types....not on this forum of course...would do this, and try and pass off as original.

Original Cards and figures would be possible, but what about original bubble?

My Harbert Jawa is quite pricey for a reseal - and imagine toltoys ones would be too (if I ever find one).

My GDE resealed one was a complete steal in my opinion (£80) - especially compared to the price of my sealed one!

Somethings are so rare it can often be the only option - even if just as a placeholder.

Good point Mike

The Meccano bubble is very unique on the square backed cards and quite hard to replicate. I have seen custom Meccano's and the bubble is never correct. The Meccano Stormtrooper's bubble is the genuine article here.

Card backs you have to look at the punch hole position, thickness of borders, etc . For example the punch hole on a Harbert 20 back is positioned slightly differently to a Harbert 12 back, there are also several other differences and unless you know what to look for you can miss them - anal I know but when spending big bucks this info is vitally important.

Everyone on here is an expert in there own field of collecting and know what to look for, that's why it's such a great forum to ask advice on.

@ x-pack
I always consider a reseal to have an original bubble. card back and figure, I personally wouldn't be happy with a repro bubble. Everything has to be original except that it has been opened at some point.

Please don't flame me for this but there's only one in my collection with a reproduction bubble and despite my own thoughts on card backs I am happy with it :) That sounds hypocritical i know but it's just for my collection. It's a matter of opinion but the worst offenders have to be the fake bubbles on fake cards being traded as original. Having a repro bubble purely for display ...well... the custom guys use 'em

Personally I think that once you start getting into reseals the lines blur on what is original anyway. A lot of people wouldn't touch them with a barge pole but for the budget collector it's a decent compromise to make in order to have a nice displayable piece.

I don't have a single reseal type card where you can't tell it's had some work. Nobody would be fooled by them ..except maybe my 3PO which is bloody nice 8)

Cripes, this is why I love this forum. I'm hoping to acquire one or two Meccano and Harbert cardbacks (I'll be looking at re-seals on my budget) at some point in the future... it's just something about those square cards on the Meccano's and the 'foreign' SW lettering that instantly draws you in. But reading your post, Paul- I'll be coming to you for advice, if that's okay... it seems there are so many subtle differences with these European cards, it's easy to be duped, that's for sure.

Meccano Jawa reseal should be cheap as chips - being the most common of the MOCs. Even sealed ones can be picked up cheaply (from 50-60 quid).

They used to be ...but it's all about supply and demand, most of them reside in the IOW, and are becoming scarcer by the week

Seriously though, I find it really difficult to find reseals, but I'm ok with beater mocs as well. All about your budget when it comes down to it

Crikey. Already up to £74 with four days to go before auction ends... I'll be watching this one, just out of interest

Yeah that price is way out of the norm........but then again things have been changing lately price wise.

I have a partially opened 65 back Jedi Fett (Kenner) would that one be in the desirable catagory? whats a rough price for it?

I am truly shocked at some of these Palitoy (and others) auctions!!

I imagine in the future I will have a number of reseals of figures I can't find sealed. Always seems like a sensible way to go if money/availability prevent filling a set.

But even that is looking more and more costly!
