I know it's difficult to say an exact year but does anyone know when the reproduction weapons for the figures started circulating approximately ?

Early 90's. First distributed by Brain's toys (also distributed repros for the 12 inch range). There were ones earlier that were made of metal.

I've always assumed that repro stuff is constantly being manufactured and sold wholesale to ebay dealers etc, is this true?

Much of what you see was produced well over a decade ago. A huge run in the 90's and they are still distributing from that run. There are some newer ones out there with better quality that are scary, but the majority are from this production run.

I never knew Brians toy's sold reproduction weapons... you learn something new everyday..

Is the owner of Brian's Toy's an active Star Wars toy collector or just a seller..? does he have a collection..? :?:

I think if you speak with a lot of the older collectors then they don't have a lot of positives to say about Brian Toys

He used to be a major dealer and collector back in the pre-internet days. He sold primarily through ToyShop magazine. Actually back then you could get deals from him. His staff were a bunch of morons however and they packaged items like ****. I hear that is still the same.

i can remember in the mid-late 90s calling up an advert in a collectors magazine who was based in brighton and they first told me about repro's, i was after an amanaman staff and he wanted £20 for a real one or £10 for a repro, i passed on both though.

I remember the metal Amanaman staffs that were around in the 90s. Didn't have one myself, but weren't they too heavy for the figures?

I first rem seeing a big box of repro weapons all separated in different sections of the box at 'Modellers Loft' in the mid/late 90s.

They loved a bit of repro!
i really liked that place though, first time i heard about it was around one christmas about 2007ish they did a piece on vintage action man figures and how wifes were buying vintage for there husbands for xmas, so i looked it up and worked out caterham was a two hour journey on trains from where i am in wembley, but thought what the hell!
i must have been in that shop for over an hour looking at everything but i took £100 with me and treated myself to a carded potf b-wing pilot £20, loose landspeeder £15 and a loose creature cantina complete for £35, all quite reasonable i thought.

i only went a couple more times after that and then it closed down.
