Hi Guys. Hope nobody minds me posting this. Amy issues and I will take it down straight away.

Just wondering if anybody off managed to bag this at auction yesterday

http://www.collectors-club-of-great-britain.co.uk/News/Palitoy-Star-Wars-Shop-Display-Sells-at-Auction/_nw679

I hope it went to someone who used to frequent that shop in their childhood that would be so cool 8)

Something is not right here? Vintage and modern together.

Looks like a custom display.

I used to go to golden gains and the owners still have stands at toy fairs

The image and the description did confuse me a bit, it looks like a dodgy eBay listing with a description that almost contradicts the title.

I would guess the modern/vintage mixture would be down to the display being used well past its 'best before' date.

Was the display actually made by Palitoy though? The piece is stamped 'Golden Gains Model 7/11' (according to the description) on the back, so did they make it or did Palitoy make it for them (as the title suggests)...

Either way the pieces place in UK Star Wars history is not in question, it was where it was claimed when it was claimed and my earlier points are probably the ramblings of an amateur as I can't see Vectis making such an error on the listings description though.

I've seen a few of these in the past. I am sure it is legit as palitoy definitely used these domed displays. Quite how it has ended up looking the way it does is anyone's guess. It is probably that the store just decided to keep it and update the display themselves.

There are some cracking examples of these shop displays out there.

I saw this but thought the description was pretty vague. As the others say, I'm sure it's legit and its got provenance.
The thing that put me off is the sheer size of it. I can get away with slipping new mocs into the display without the wife noticing but I think the store display would be pushing it.
Hopefully it went to someone from here.

Outer shell looks real...but with all the modifications it is seriously affected. Not quite the holy grail but still a nice one for the restoration.

That looks really crappy compared to others I've seen to be honest. Now if it had a mint, sealed Palitoy Tie Fighter in there along with loose items from the era, it would be great. But that is just a badly displayed mess of modern rubbish and poor condition vintage.

deffo a geniune Palitoy piece - I used to own a vintage action man one, just looks like some newer stuff has been added over the years, the toy shop owner probably used it has it was intended, ie to show off the current range of toys, just a shame it was added to over the years
