Looks like Gallo is having a clear out.

Ps I'd rather have one Luke in robes than 50,000 beater Klaatus.

The money involved is nothing but crazy, but the items involved are simply breath taking... how can anyone put a price on them? May as well be something that mental surely?

Wow, didn't even know about these things. Not my end of the pool, but great to see.

The price of pre-production stuff doesn't bother me as it's not an area I've ever been able to afford. It's the crazy price of the mass-produced stuff that's getting me down!!

Me too, MOC prices are scary, glad I bailed on that area of collecting 3 years ago.

Having said that, some loose variants are reaching equally crazy prices.

Unfortunately, I have noticed it's become a bit more widespread than just SW... Other vintage toy lines have inflated pretty high now - Personally, I do attribute this to the prices of what vintage SW toys are now commanding.

I collect several toy lines not just SW and id have to say i completely agree mate, too many people now find any old toy and ask stupid money for it because its "vintage" its getting harder for genuine collectors to pick up pieces they want.

I don't really know James but I feel for him in a way with this. He is brokering a deal for an item that has nothing really to compare with. Not just one item, he's had a few recently. He's not daft, he knows it will sell at a good price and probably isn't in a hurry.

Since we're talking silly prices - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Star-Wars-Helix-Death-Star-Pencil-Sharpener-/302077541770?hash=item4655397d8a:g:Oc8AAOSwLF1X3fsZ

Oh come on, it's not even in good condition.

These are not for sale posts. At least not in the conventional sense. No one is really expecting a pm saying "I'll take it. Let me know your PayPal and I will drop you fifty grand tonight".

These adverts are a statement that these pieces could be sold, but at the right price. Ultimately, the owner may receive offers. They may be nowhere near asking but if you want to have a go at buying the Luke, for say 20k, then you can ask. Ultimately if the seller thinks the offers fair they may sell, they may not or they may be offered more. What they will probably get is a load of enquiries which is what James is for and where he will have to work for his commission.

The price is just an indication of where they are looking. The interesting thing about them is they have turned up on Facebook for sale. I'm sure James has the contacts to have offered these out to collectors who may want them and may be able to pay some serious wedge without them even seeing the light of day. To turn up on Facebook like this is somewhat of a different approach for this kind of item.

James is a strange one.

He was selling a MOC a few years ago (prob close to 10) and I contacted him and made an offer. He declined. As is his perogative. It wasn't a take the piss offer, probably 80-85% of his asking price but still, entirely up to him if he accepts. I told him the offer was still on the table if he changed his mind. A week later he sells it to someone else for substantially less than I had offered. It wasn't as if the buyer was US based or a big well known collector either.

He is entitled to sell to whoever he wants obviously, but why decline one offer only to accept another lesser offer a week later, especially when the initial offer was still on the table and i'd told him I could pay straight away.

I am just glad I only collect loose vintage.

That is most telling about this is the fact it's advertised for sale. Full stop.

Most pieces like this rarely ever break the surface. We (the masses) know of their existence due to word of mouth of the SW Archive only. Now they are being marketed and advertised. Let's face it, if the seller (more accurately, the owner) was after even a reasonable price this would go amongst that inner circle of collectors who have been collecting and hunting these things down for years. We'd never even get to hear about the sale or the acquisition.

So why advertise it now? Because the price by the seasoned pre-production collectors is considered too high. Same with that ridiculous Jawa 20 back mock up for $30k. Had this been a semi-sensible price I think it would have found it's way into an established collection before it ever landed with the broker. A new breed of high end collector is about: new to the market and wanting to join in the SW investment gravy train that's seen prices escalate beyond the predictions of the most bullish investor could have predicted. So what if you drop $50k on a figure if you believe in a year it'll be worth $60k or more?

Although the average collector may think this ridiculous priced piece will not affect their collecting expenditure, I'd say they're wrong. Look at the housing market: stock is dragged up in price when the high end multi-million pound houses rise and falls when the same mansions fall in price. Same happens with this market, rest assured. This is just the latest example of an ever inflating market.

I'm currently watching a loose r2 pop up which is at £340!! I mean what is going on?
