Didn't have time to post anything up about this member before all of these other replies were posted so I do apologise but just to let you guys know, he has actually now been banned.

When thankyoukener joined SWF he created a number of threads about quite controversial subjects (repaints, recards, AFA..etc) and some of those were even locked (2 in the same day..) however, before they were locked advice was given by moderators and members (advice he probably should have listened to).

I get the newbie thing but IMO if you join a forum and get called a troll because of the questions you are posing and/or have your threads locked then you need to step back and take a different approach...not go on the defensive and insult peoples mothers..or ask the exact same questions you've caused issues with or already had answers on.

I may not have a ton of posts here, but I have been around the block for a while, and I think you made a mistake. If it makes long time members here happy, then maybe you don't give a ****, but I feel it's a mistake nonetheless. I am not here to start a fight Joe, but here is the dude's first post, which seems innocent enough to me, where he was looking for sellers in Brighton:

Hi guys recently decided to restart completing my collection which I started in 1990 as a 6 year old so as you can imagine need quite a few! Joined this thread to see if there are any sellers in the Brighton or surrounding areas who I can buy from. Have been to snoopers paradise and cosmos but looking for other sellers please?

Ross - Snoopers Paradise in Brighton is where Toy Toni sells from - big alarm bell especially as one of his next posts was about asking for the details of a Spanish seller that sells repros. The one and only 'painstakingly resealed' Nathan Edwards (costablanca starwars and a host of other ebay names). How would a new collector even be aware of him - a pretty obsucre question surely?

And if he was aware of him an ebay search for repros being sold by a seller in Spain would have been the best bet.

It was my mum that was referred too and I took no offence or even responded. Loads of new collectors come here and are treated fine but not new collectors that start off posting about Toy Toni and Nathan Edwards - surely you can see that this paint falling off thread is a piss take as he was called out?

Fair enough, Andy. That part didn't connect with me. And maybe I shouldn't carry on in defense of a new person when you folks that have been around a while here probably know better what to look for than I do. I just don't like to see new collectors bashed unless it is crystal clear that they are trolling. Not sure it is entirely clear here. And to be clear, he said he had already been to Snoopers Paradise, and was looking for sellers OTHER than those there. Maybe I am wrong.

Carry on dudes. :D

you are right to be wary Ross as we as a group have been quick to judge in the past

Its TYK's first few posts (and all within five mins) that convinced me he was a troll but since then he did seem quite genuine - and to give him credit looking back someone else told him about Nathan Edwards. As I said I would have been the first to apologise (pushing Rob out of the way) if I was wrong - I guess we'll never know

Haha brilliant! My friend loves customs and repro figures! Do you have a link to where to buy these figures?

Repro?
I have a friend who suspects he has some repro figures but doesn't seem fussed! He is wondering if anyone knows a seller who only deals on decent reproduction figures? I've tried to get him into buying genuine figures but he's happy with the knock off rubbish!

Repaint?
Hi guys a few of my figures have paint loss or damage. Anyone know a specialist who can repaint them or know a way or guide to doing it myself so they look grand again! Not worried about losing value or originality of them just want them looking fresh again!

Brighton selling?

You are entitled to your opinion Ross and I respect that of course but I must admit I'm not 100% sure I understand why you feel strongly enough about this particular incident to be questioning the decision?

I could perhaps understand your issue here if this was a regular occurrence on SWF and you were tired of how new people were treated or something but unless I've missed something, that's not the case, is it? In fact, I would say that the opposite is true - everyone gets a very warm welcome here and we have new people joining on a daily basis. I can't actually even remember the last member we had to ban from here (JFK maybe? Who was an old member we banned after he was outed by a new member for a scam on ebay..) so it takes a certain type of person to rock the boat enough to get kicked off and we definitely don't discriminate based on how long you've been a member.

Like Edd said, he's not approached anyone about his ban yet which probably means he doesn't give a **** anyway (unlike the FB groups, he still has access to 90% of the forum even if he's booted..) but if he does then perhaps he'll get a second chance if he really wants to be a part of SWF.

Ultimately this type of thing comes down to a moderator/admin decision and on this occasion it came about because of several complaints we had received from other members. We can't just ignore stuff like that, especially when we get complaints from more than one person, hope you (and everyone else) understands.

Ross this is the way this forum has been since I joined. We call em' like we see em'. 9 times out of 10 our gut feelings are spot on.

When you put it that way, Joe, it makes a lot of sense dude. And I know you and Edd are good guys that are just trying to do things right, and that running a forum is a thankless job. Of course I wasn't aware of the complaints you received either. In any event, I tend to give folks the benefit of the doubt, especially newer collectors that are still finding their way, and that's kind of where I was coming from.

With that said, can anyone give me a recommendation for a good seller in Brighton?

True enough. :D The guy was baiting us...so he was eventually gonna get burnt. Also I have noticed a few other new members posting bring up Repros.....maybe the same guy. Or the moon is full.

There are good points here. Some newbies have been unnecessarily hounded out IMO due to mob mentality but I think in the last year or so this has settled a lot. Never though has it been as bad as RS. In this situation though I think it was clear that the guy was dropping little bombs and waiting to go nuclear.

That's a really good point. I can't really think of the last time someone really got properly unloaded on and there have been a lot of new users since TFA who have settled in without any issues whatsoever.

The last time I remember a full-blown WW3 moment was when someone wanted to open a beater MOC to smell it (Something to do with his childhood) Then Pete Gowdy got involved and everything went a bit nuts! Since that, things have relaxed with only a few blips here and there.

I think we forget at moments that newbies are just starting out and will ask questions that sometimes we feel are stupid or inappropriate, but their none-the-wiser. In this case, I'm sure this guy was trolling us as it was a constant asking of things in-regards to fakes, repros and touch ups (Oh, and mom's, ha)

Debate over. It was me who posted the questions. As a new collector I came on here for some genuine help and advice over worries or issues or enquiries I had about figures expecting it to be friendly and helpful on here. Genuine questions were meant with ridicule and digs at my queries and character! As a local to Brighton I know of snoopers paradise as I have bought there and a quick search on here for posts about Brighton doesn't take long to figure out who toy Toni is hence how I knew who he is! By reading comments! As others have said genuine enquiries were met with ridicule and mob mentality and accusations! Of course I reacted but hardly the worst thing in the world. And as someone said repro sellers were mentioned to me so that's how I knew if you bothered to check the replies to me. I love seeing other peoples collections and am after some graded figures but not sure this is the right place to interact with other sellers judging by the type of people on here! Shame on some of you!

As mentioned if you are indeed a genuine user seeking advice, I apologise that you were met with hostility and banned.

HOWEVER next time you join a forum I would advise not making "your mum" jokes within days of joining, or asking questions that are obviously going to rub people up the wrong way. You made no effort to either introduce yourself or defend yourself when accused of trolling, so I don't really think anybody here did anything wrong. Their responses were justified as you did appear to be trolling.

If you'd like to stick around, maybe read some of the sticky threads in various forums that are there to help newbies learn the ropes, and again avoid asking questions about repros/fakes etc that always cause a reaction.
