Premier League Discussion Thread Season 2014-15

I'm not a Man Utd supporter but I'm no hater either, sure there are a million dickheads who have never been to Manchester that 'support' them, but you can say that about any team (I live nearer to Arsenal's stadium than anybody I know who supports them!) Alex Ferguson spent 25+ years making them one of the best teams in the world, so personally I didn't enjoy watching them turn to **** overnight. It definitely opened my eyes to the difference a manager can make.

I'd put a decent bet on Sturridge making next to no difference when he's back. Suarez was the genius of the pair, Soldado probably would have scored 25 goals alongside him!

So...

Pardew offically in talks with Crytal Palace and Fabio Coloccini in advanced talks to replace him as player/manager at Newcastle?! ZERO Managerial Experience straight in?? Risky to say the least.

West Brom have sacked Irvine according to sources on Twitter with Tim Sherwood set to take the reigns.

Did you see Carragher burst out laughing when they announced that on SkySports tonight? I must say i wasn't far behind him. ****ing ridiculous beyond words.

Don't blame Pardew for leaving - was never going to win over the fans and to be honest he can leave with his head held high - as for Irvine - he was a dead man walking - anyone who states publically that he fears for his job rearely has long left

As for Collocini

Edd, HOW drunk were you when you typed that? Soldado!? Come one now, Jason Lee maybe, but Soldado!

I don't get the Pardew thing. He has an 8 year contract at Newcastle why is he trading that in for the Palace job? Sure the fans don't like him, but does he really give a ****? No way will Palace pay him as much as Newcastle, nor will they give him as long a contract. I have nothing against Palace at all, but Newcastle are definitely a bigger club. I just don't see what Pardew gains by going. Is he actually the only non money orientated person left in football?

As for Colocini taking over as Player manager, I'm with Carragher. What a ****ing stupid idea.

Not surprised Alan Irvine has been sacked, he was a dead man walking from day one. The fact the Board spunked most of their money on a 10 million pound donkey upfront didn't help him.
I heard Sherwood turned the job down in the summer because WBA have a system in place and all they want is a manager. Sherwood wants to bring in his own people and have complete control. Unless WBA have decided to change the way they have worked for the last 5 or more years I cant see Sherwood taking the job. Unless he's desperate and has decided to change his mind.

PS, Liverpool actually looked quite good last night!

I heard Palace were paying him more, which amazed me!

Is that a reduced amount given he is quitting (I don't know what his contract is like)?
I don't quite see how he gets £10 million from Newcastle. Not that I doubt you. I just mean HE is breaking the contract so how is he entitled to £10 million? Surely, Newcastle will in turn demand £10 million compensation from Palace? I was going to say "If they have any sense they will!" Then I realised it's Mike Ashley, and he gave Pardew an 8 year contract in the first place.

1 Million more - London weighting has went up quite a bit since the last time I worked there.
I know Palace have to pay the Mags 2.5 Mill I doubt Pardew will be getting any of that for dumping us.

This is interesting:

Why am I the only person on this earth that seems to realise Spurs need competent defenders, NOT more strikers! It doesn't matter how many goals you score if there is a goal threat every time the ball goes in your own half, Liverpool proved that last season. Regular clean sheets go a long way towards winning games.

Gutted i'm not watching this. It's not on sky, they showed the obviously **** choice. Also didn't think it'd be worth the bother as we were never gonna get anything out of Chelsea in a million years. :?

Have you not got BT Sport Pete? Its on there.

Fantastic result and performance from Spurs, but just highlights what I said earlier. They already have people that can score goals, but not conceding is even more important and with retards like Fazio in the Spurs back four they're never going to be serious contenders. All of Chelsea's goals today were easily avoidable.

No, partly because they charge a £15 set up fee which i will not pay and partly because it's a **** package. They show about a quarter of the Premier league games that SkySports show and expect you to pay almost the same price. Well they can **** right the **** off. :x

Any other day i'd have met up with a mate at a pub or whatever but it's new years day for christ sake.

Watch out Liverpool Gerrard will be playing for Man City next season if your not carefull.

He's said he wont sign for another PL club as he couldn't play against Pool.

Will be a massive loss. He's 35 this May so I see why he wants to go, and he isn't the player he was. But I always assumed he would go out in a similar fashion to Giggsy (without ****ing his brothers wife). I'll be sad to see him go. True Liverpool legend and a fantastic player.
God know how Brendan tries to replace him. I'm all set for some "Stevie will be a big loss but we have quality players like Henderson, Alen and Can.." BS

PS, Edd your link goes to a Robbie Savage article. I didn't even bother to read it as the man is a ****ing retard. In fact, that's an insult to ****ing retards.

To be fair i think Lallana has a lot of potential. It needs someone like him to step up and take it by the scruff of the neck. Whether to not he has the strength of character to do that is another thing.

Time for a rant - more than a dozen FA cup games on today, and not a single on of them are on either terrestrial or paid TV in the UK. Why the hell should we have to watch illegal American/Russian/Arabic/New Zealand streams of OUR OWN football matches? Do these FA morons not understand that they can't stop people watching the games any more, so they may as well make some money out of it. Sky on NowTV is a good start, but more needs to be done.

When is this ridiculous '3pm' rule going to change? Shouldn't there be a petition or something? I refuse to pay for Sky Sports or BT etc until ALL English football matches from all competitions are available to watch like they are in every other country.

It's a bit like the movie industry refusing to accept the fact that it's not the 1950s and people WILL illegally download films if they don't release them legally online. A mixture of greed and stupidity.
