Premier League 2012/13 Discussion Thread

Everton and Wigan are very different - other than their structure in that they're both owned by a similar guy and don't have the funds to really compete.

Can see what you guys are saying about Martinez but then on the one hand is a good manager for Everton in that he has grown used to working under a very small budget with a thread bare squad he might just be the man

Is that why Fergy picked Moyes to take over at Utd?
He's used to working with a small budget (cos it all goes to pay the debts the Glazier's dumped on Utd for the privilege of being owned by some Yanks) and a thread bare squad (well, it needs a major overhaul anyway)..............

So much depends on who signs for who, who leaves who, and how quickly the new signings and managers settle in.

It could actually be a very interesting summer.

Just waiting for Messi coming out and saying what we all know..........that he wants to sign for Liverpool!

Toure......................face palm

I assume the logic went something like, "we've got no money so we need someone who's cheap, ideally with a bit of experience and reasonably solid."

He's cheap, cos City want shot of him. He has experience.....of sitting on their bench and forgetting to tell the drugs people he's taking his wife's diet pills cos he's so ****ing fat. And as for being reasonably solid, that's just too easy.

I've heard Rodger's isn't keen on Messi though cos he's not sure how he'd cope with being in Stewart Downing's shadow!

i dont think toure is a bad signing really, carra was on a nice packet, he wont be on half that and he does have league winning experience for the youngsters, something NONE of our players have lol.

Not a bad squad player but I think he'll be on huge wages. He was a City and I can't see him going to Liverpool on too much of a cut. Unless his contract expired?

yeah he is out of contract june 1st, he will be a good squad player and replaces carra's knowledge.

fsg are only really after younger players like coutinho and sturridge unless they are free of course.

You may be right on Toure. He's not THAT bad a signing, i'm being harsh. I just think he's very typical of Liverpool's recent transfer activity, ie distinctly underwhelming.

When was the last time you got excited (so to speak) about a signing?

Coutinho looks like a quality player, but did we know that before we signed him?

Is Downing fat as well?

Nah, i meant more because Downing is clearly the superior player. I doubt Messi will have played along side as top notch a player as him!

liverpool wont get any "exciting" signings im afraid, no CL football, we have to reply on signings like suarez, coutinho, sturridge and past signings like hyypia, reina, alonso.

gonna be a long slog but with sterling and suso coming through i think we will push for CL football next season.

I do hope so. Need to hang onto Reina though and, needless to say, Suarez!

reina may go i think, he's been a super servant and i would begrudge him going back to his homeland and first club.

He is an honorary scouser though so its not set in stone, suarez will be here this season, maybe he will go if we dont improve, good thing is we will make 30-40mil on him if he does

Rumours of Reina to Barca (wouldn't begrudge anyone going there) for 10 million and then us buying Bergovic from Stoke for 15million.
Not sure i see the logic in that. Sell one very good keeper for 10 million, buy another very good (but not quite as good) keeper for 15 million. Strange logic when you have hardly got a pot to piss in.

On that note, Hughes to stoke. Any thoughts?

Reina started his career there, grew up there, he wants to end his career there so you cant blame him, the club defo dont want him to go, he may just ask to. but when you look at it, we havnt won the league since the 80's and we are not even close to doing it so i dont see reina as being they key, although i would prefer him to stay

I mean more the spending money we don't have on a position that's not really a major issue. If we let him go, the club has to accept his request, we're creating a problem for ourselves, and whilst i rate Bergovic, i don't think he's worth 15 million, plus it'll take time for him and the back four to get used to playing along side each other.

If Liverpool got Aspas (a goal every 2 games in Spain) then that'd be a good buy. But would he play second fiddle to Suarez and Sturridge? Or is he a replacement?
