PL 2016-2017 Thread

**** Ajax were piss poor. They just didn't turn up. Utd won without getting out of second gear. That was a competitive as the FACup final against Milwall from years back. As a neutral (if a Pool fan watching Utd and cheering for Ajax can be neutral) that was a poor final. Ajax looked distinctly Championship standard. Very young team, maybe they were overawed by the occasion, but that was just a cake walk for Utd.

I hope the CL final is better.

Yes it was a bloody boring game, the first goal was comical so I'm glad the second was a bit more deliberate otherwise it would have been a sorry excuse for a winning goal. I guess Jose was right though!

if they fluke past Chelsea in the final, and having seen bits of both semi's the two sides in the first were head and shoulders better than those in the second so it would be a fluke

Did you really expect anything less from Fluke FC?

**** keeper - did his job.
2 average centre backs injured. 1 well past sell by date defender hasn't played a whole season and did nothing wrong, was pretty impressive throughout.
Arsenal deserved that and it should have been 3 or 4. Chelsea resorted to diving in an attempt and had next to nothing to offer. They expected us to roll over and it didn't happen.

Agreed Chelsea were pathetic today and Arsenal could have scored four or five. Shame Chelsea couldn't have played that badly in the semi final, instead they scored goal of the season.

Yeah fair play, Arsenal deserved it. Chelsea were pish. In a way it's nice to see the trophies shared around, albeit between the usual suspects, but better than seeing someone doing a double. Especially someone as unlikeable as Chelsea.

PL predictions 17/18

Arsenal 2 places worse than this year and no cup, Wenger rewarded with bonus payment and new 8 year contract
FML just move on

Groundhog season for Arsenal, yet again!

I feel genuinely sorry for the fans. All the auld ex Arsenal players are harping on about how the Board need to back Wenger in the transfer market now. Utter BS. firstly, he has had money for years but refused to spend it. Secondly what top notch player is going to choose Arsenal over the other 5 PL sides who can all offer CL and most will offer more money!? Wenger needs to pull a few rabbits out of the hat this summer, and I don't see that happening.

I think it was the only option, who better is on the market? And surely Pep has proved this season 'best' doesn't automatically mean most successful. Hopefully the FA Cup win will keep Arsenal fans quiet for a while before people start calling them glory supporters, you can't rebuild a team over night so if you really want to challenge for the title again you have to be prepared for a few seasons of building and mediocrity first.

It's OK guys, he's just been practicing for the last 13 years

Ironic that he signs a new deal hours after Touchel and Luis Enrique become available. Not sure how good an actual manager the latter of the two is but he would probably have the name recognition to attract the big name player. Still all academic now.

I was hoping for Enrique personally, I thought he would be a good fit, a known name and crucially available at the right time, much like a certain German and Spaniard last time his contract was renewed. Still, I do like a routine and currently in the prem and in Europe you can set your watch by Arsenals failings

Cue a summer of being linked with dozens of big name players, followed by buying no one anyone has heard of until they take a heavy beating in one of their first games and Wenger panic buys whoever is available...again.

Don't forget April where he tells us how close we were to the next big thing but the deal wasn't right

Not a bad shout, I've thought he might give the squad the kick up the arse it needs for a while but he wasn't likely to leave

Polar opposite there. From the old faithful manager/dog who won't shout at anyone, likes a passing style of play and backs his players time and again even when they continually let him down, to a bulldog who demands 100% commitment to the team and has a hard as nails style of play. That would have been interesting to see. I can just picture Theo Walcott crying now.
