PL 2015-16 Chat

Bye bye Bobby Martinez.

Here's a wee hint, next time why don't you try practising defending set pieces and general defensive set ups. It's not illegal you know! In fact, it's actually encouraged. You might find you win more games if your team has a ****ing notion how to defend. Really, it's not that difficult, FFS Fat Sam and Tony Pulis can manage it and they barely have a brain cell between them.

If the Martinez sacking surprised anybody, what the hell is this about!?

Erm sorry Watford, is 13th in the PL not good enough for you? What the hell do you expect? You're already rubbing shoulders with clubs like Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool etc that have decades of top flight experience yet can't make the top four, and you think you can just stroll in and compete with the best because Leicester have fluked it? (I'm not saying Leicester don't deserve it, but 5000-1 outsiders winning the league is a fluke in anybody's book.) I agree with Flores, 13th is a very respectable season for a tiny side.

And I don't disagree that Martinez hasn't exactly been brilliant, but again it seems all 20 teams in the PL think they deserve a Champions League spot. Mid table in the top flight isn't so bad, ask Newcastle or Leeds.

The Watford thing is shocking, but then I said that about Leicester last season and who's laughing now. But yeah I agree it's ridiculous. I think the Everton situation is a tough one Evertons performances have slowly declined since Martinez first season, that said Moyes had some bad seasons and was given the chance to turn things around. Trouble is now all these clubs have new owners who want to take the club to next level.

The last round of fixtures has got to be the least exciting for some time with everything wrapped up apart from Spurs/Arsenal and the two Manchester clubs fighting to finish above one another.

Yeah I'm glad at least 4th place is still up for grabs so there is some excitement this weekend. Would obviously love to see Spurs come 2nd but it doesn't actually mean anything.

Spot on, it means nothing at all, but of course it would be nice... I get the feeling at work the Arsenal fans actually care a great deal more than any Spurs fan does though.

Obviously I don't work with you but yes, yes I do care a great deal, this has been our "trophy" for 12 years

So funny, I had a feeling you'd bite!

Its like when West Ham beat us, we don't care about that but they seem to (I'll just leave that there for Cazza... ).

In all serious though, its been a great season for so many teams, Leicester, Spurs, West Ham to name but a few and I think too much has been made about others failings. Teams like Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea have no God given right to finish top four or win things each year and a season like this has been a long time coming. I really hope that the teams who've shown what they are capable of do push on rather than rest on their achievements and I also hope that the traditional top four do improve to make it just as interesting again next season.

Yep, couldn't help myself........is this the right time to mention I was born in Leicester so can be a home grown glory supporter?

I've been to Leicester at least 3 or 4 times and as the king of Leicester (Gary Lineaker) played for Spurs for a bit and I saw him play at quite a lot of those games, that basically makes me related to him, so yeah, I'm their biggest fan too..

I agree on Watford. I always thought Quique was a great manager, I'd have been quite happy if Liverpool had appointed him at any stage in the last 5 years. I heard somewhere that Watford are now looking for their fifth manager in 2 years? That says a lot about how that club is run.
A "good" season for them was staying up. They finished solid mid-table. That's superb. Yer man should be getting a new improved contract and some money to strengthen the squad. Instead he gets booted out cos they have been dung since xmas.

I did hear at the time of the FAC semi finals that all four managers needed to win it to keep their jobs. So far the two that lost the semi's have been sacked. What odds one if the other two going before August?

As for Martinez, he seems like a decent guy and he tries to play football. BUT, his teams can't defend for shite and that's inexcusable. The last few Everton performances have made it abundantly clear that the players have lost faith in him. When that happens there's only one out come. You can't sell and replace an entire team so bye bye Bobby.
I don't think Everton had been making much progress under him. They had spent a decent amount of money, for them, as well, yet finished lower each year and shipped more goals. You look at their starting 11 and they should be challenging for a European spot. Ok, they need a keeper and a bit more quality/depth in the squad, but they have under achieved.

What odds Liverpool's starting 11 has an average age in the teens? Ohh and Bogdan drops another bollock!?

Seriously has ANY PL side got two worse goalkeepers than Mingers and the Bog?

Well I can't quite comprehend what I just watched (well partly watched, I turned it off when the ref gave a penalty for that dive.) If Leicester winning the title was 5000-1, what were the odds of the 2nd team in the league losing 5-1 to the 19th team with 10 men? 10,000-1? a million to one? I've said it before, but Spurs are the unluckiest team in football. Nothing ever goes their way, and this only reinforces that. Back to mid-table mediocrity please, I'm sick of the glimmers of hope. **** "it's been our best season", it's been just as **** as every other season.

Oh and any other smart arse Arsenal fans gloating get a ban ;)

It would be nice to see a hint of modesty from Arsenal fans, considering Spurs lost second rather than Arsenal won it. But no of course they're all being cunts like they have for the last 20 years.

Apart from Leicester's Hollywood story this has got to be the worst Premier League season ever - the champions come 10th, a club that want their manager sacked come second and a team that don't deserve to be in the top half come 3rd. Doesn't bode well for English football or the PL.

That may be the case but what exactly would Spurs fans have said had the roles been reversed?
Never mind, hard luck and better luck next season?
I seriously doubt it.

Everybody loves an underdog right? You guys certainly loved it when Leicester pipped Spurs to the title, who in my opinion were both underdogs. Despite being almost as successful over the years, Spurs fans don't have an equivalent of St Totteringham's day, which says it all about the class of Arsenal fans really.

Anyway, enjoy sticking the knife in for the 20th season in a row, must make you feel really big and clever.

I feel pretty sorry for Spurs - they deserved 2nd place and should have got it - Arsenal had their typical season and as Edd says - if it wasn't for Leicester then the Spurs story one have been the fairytale one

Also from an English point of view then it is great to see a side at the top of the league full of English players - I honestly can't get behind Arsenal, Man City or Chelsea as a neutral as I don't have any affection for any of their players

Spurs will grow next season for sure, they need to build on the squad they have but I think their future looks a lot brighter than Arsenal's right now

Wow Edd you have a sore head? Wouldn't have bothered me if Spurs or Leicester won the title - fairytale story either way and good for shaking up the 'big 4'. In my experience most Spurs fans just consider finishing above Arsenal as a goal, not something I really see as that important. Football rivalry goes both ways. Nothing to do with feeling big or clever just football banter.

That's funny, it was important enough for you to gloat about it on here within minutes of the results today. But no obviously you're not smug about it at all.

It's banter Edd. You don't know me well enough to know there's not a touch of smug or ego about me. I thought this whole forum was built on light hearted humour. As an Arsenal fan (not a glory hunter I've supported Arsenal since 1984 when I got a football annual for Xmas and the main story was about Paul Davis) I actually enjoy watching Spurs too. There are far more important things in life than football.

Trust me, it's not "banter" when you're on the receiving end of it for 20 years. I deleted about a dozen bell ends on Facebook this afternoon who thought it was hilarious to tag me in their Arsenal memes.
