PL 2015-16 Chat

A point at Anfield is always a good one no matter who you are or how well your playing. You have to say Leicester are genuinely in the title race at the moment, their going through this run of hard games picking up more points than anyone expected. It's unbelievable! If Man Utd finish above them I will be surprised.

Holy ****, Arsenal have signed somebody

Jesus!!!!!
Before I looked at that I was expecting a French speaking teenager who likes to play on the wing and is made of chocolate but no, it's an actual adult, who doesn't speak French. He may still be a winger or wide player who spends more time injured than fit, but at least Wenger has started to learn. Only taken him 10 years.

I know, exciting times although I think he is the replacement for Flamini in DM and not a winger.

Austin to Southampton from QPR, that could be a good signing. I'm surprised nobody snapped him up as soon as QPR went down. He was brilliant that season.

Agreed. I think QPR were keen to hold on to him, or at least wanted silly money. His contract is up in the summer so I guess they decided something now beats bog all in June.
Good player and great signing for Saints. Surprised there weren't more clubs in for him, given he has PL experience, has shown he can score, and was bloody cheap.

Still, he's only an eighth as good as Benteke!

That Liverpool Norwich game is a fantastic advert for just how **** the standard of defending in the PL is. Shambolic, and that was the good bits!

Ohh and glad I had to leave at HT. Norwich just scored their third when I was parking the car. I was gutted when I saw the final score.

Apparently he's on £100K a week. Would've put off loads of teams, especially with FFP.

Haven't seen the Norwich-Pool highlights yet, but it sounds like a laugh. Must be gutting to score four goals and lose! No excuses at either end for that many goals in a football match.

Other than that pretty much every result went Spurs's way, which makes a change  I must say I watched the Arsenal Chelsea game and thought the straight red was pretty harsh, but as it was outside the box I don't see what else the ref could have done as a free kick in that position is nowhere near as likely to result in a goal as a penalty is, and it was a clear goal scoring opportunity. Tough one for the ref, did kind of ruin the game.

Really? I thought it was a fair enough call. He was last man, koshelny (spelling) was never getting across. He fouled him, ergo it's a red card. He can't have any complaints. It did end the game as an effective contest, but it was the right call.

I've seen a few people say he should have let Costa go and stayed on the pitch, basically saying 1-0 with 11 men (assuming Costa scores) beats 0-0 and down to ten. Not sure I agree. Imagine the outrage if Mertsacker had just followed Costa in and not tried to tackle him. Arsenal fans and the media would be saying he was done/an embarrassment to defenders etc etc. He has a split second to make up his mind and he has to go for the ball IMO. He's ****ed if he does and ****ed if he doesn't. I can't see Wenger going "ahhh sure don't worry about it big man, I don't mind my defenders pulling out of tackles in case they get sent off."
Arsenal looked poor even up to that point mind.

Spurs have a genuine shot at the title this year. I've probably just jinxed it now.

Ohh and keep up the good work LVG. If you could just try losing to Liverpool next time I'd appreciate it a lot more.

No I agree with you - harsh but fair. I think he should have let Costa go, a 50/50 one on one after 10 minutes is better than a red card. As above if it was in the penalty area, I think a yellow and penalty would have sufficed as Chelsea would likely have scored the penalty. But a free kick outside the box is not punishment enough for what happened, so a red was the only option for the ref.

The idea of 'letting him go' sounds good and easy for the pundits to say after the game but basically as Edd says, you have a split second to make a decision and no defender is not going to try and win the ball. It was the same in our play-off game last year, Berra should have let the goal in as a red card and a pen are far worse than 1-0 but you just don't have that time to think

Oh, and Norwich scoring 4 at home and losing

Townsend to Newcastle: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/35409021

Shame as I quite liked him, but in truth Spurs just don't need him at the moment.

Yeah it's suprising how he has gone from being the next top England player to nothing. Hope he does well at Newcastle, he's got the talent.

Certainly wish him well, but I'm also glad to see Spurs cash in on an player we don't need rather than sit on them forever holding out for the penny perfect deal.

I think Spurs have had Newcastle there.
£12 for someone who has done FA for a year, and never looked any better than your average winger (shite, amazing, shite, amazing, shite, shite, repeat), Mike Ashley has over paid massively there. Ok, Spuds didn't 'need' to sell, and he isn't approaching the end of his contract, but I'd say a figure of half that, maybe up to £8 million would have been more realistic. That's allowing for the young and English premiums as well.

I wonder what that makes Saido Berahino worth, Mr Levy!?
