Pete Gowdy's "Euro 2012" Predictions League

League Table (after phase 4, QF 1)

- 1. Liam Henton............... 42
^ 2. Anthony Wright ......... 35 ½
v 3. Asad Salam................. 33
v 4. Dave Wright................ 33
^ 5. Luke Harrod............... 31
v 6. Pete Gowdy................ 30 ½
v 7. Nick Lancaster............ 30
- 8. Alex Dewsbery........... 28
v 9. Lee Cooper................. 27
v 9. Steve Hay.................... 27
v 11. Jeremy Rea................ 27
- 12. Paul Yudt.................. 27
- 13. Ali Khan.................... 21
- 14. Iain Sanderson.......... 21
- 15. Ishpaul Gill............... 14

Liam Henton extends his lead at the top to 6 and a half points. Anthony Wright moves from 4th to 2nd, leap-frogging Asad Salam & Dave Wright who both drop a place each. Luke Harrod rockets up the table from 11th to 5th place just above me who has moved down 1 place. Lee, Stev and Jeremy drop a place largly due to Luke moving up but the bottom 4 remain the same.
Personally now, with just 6 games left, i don't see anyone outside the top 4 winning it but i've been wrong before. Liam is on red-hot form and has to be the favourite now. He's hit 6 exacts including 2 WC 6 pointers. In just 25 games which really is astonishing. To put it in perspective, last season's predictions league winner hit just 4 wild-card exacts over 380 games. Having said that just one game can change everything as we've seen several times already over this year's competition. Whatever happens it's gonna be an exciting final 2 weeks. Could do with a Hat-trick from Gomez against Greece on saturday myself ;)

Yeah still lots of football and with WCs and star-men everything could change in a game. Personally i'd be disappointed with Ronaldo's 1 goal tonight. Czech Rep are **** and he should have got at least 2 and an assist, they were completely dominant. Now you have to sit tight and hope Anthony doesn't get 2 or 3 goals from Gomez on saturday.
I don't think i'm in it any more but it's still gonna be exciting to watch it play out. :D

Reckon Liam has this one in the bag to be honest - I'm just looking to get out of the relegation zone !

I'd say Liam has a nice enough lead to be considered favourite but have played to many of these to say he's got it in the bag. I truly believe any of the top 4 have a very good chance of winning it.
If i was giving odds i'd say - Liam 1/2. Anthony 2/1. Dave 7/2. Asad 4/1 and because my star-man is a lot stronger than Luke's i'd actually make myself favourite above him. Me 8/1 and Luke 9/1. Just my opinion of course.

Pete, what are you talking about? I reckon I can still win it and i'm below you (and mots other people)! :D

Bloody Alonso, why couldn't he have done the decent thing and missed that penalty so my 1-0 prediction was spot on!?

Still, Spain get to wipe that smug grin off Ronaldo's face now!

Sorry Liam, i will get it done tomorrow. Been ill in bed with man flu for the last 2 days. I know you might think that'd give me even more time but numbers hurt my head at the moment plus i'm on a lot of codine so would probably make mistakzzzzzz... %7cv&w@u2zakj$©!

League Table (after phase 4, SF 2)

- 1. Liam Henton............... 47
- 2. Anthony Wright .......... 39 ½
^ 3. Steve Hay.................... 38
v 4. Asad Salam................. 38
v 5. Dave Wright................ 37
v 6. Alex Dewsbery............ 37
v 7. Pete Gowdy................. 34 ½
v 8. Luke Harrod................ 34
v 9. Nick Lancaster............ 33
- 10. Paul Yudt.................. 31
- 11. Lee Cooper............... 30
- 12. Jeremy Rea................ 30
- 13. Iain Sanderson.......... 24
- 14. Ali Khan.................... 22
- 15. Ishpaul Gill............... 16

Steve Hay shoots up the table from 9th to 3rd! After an astonishing 6 pointer in the Germany v Italy game. He has more correct picks than Asad and so is above him.
Those who were 3rd-8th all move down a place.
7th and 8th now officially out of the money.

Because Steve and Alex still have star-men i can't officially announce Liam as champion but it would take a miracle for him not to be.
Steve needs 3 points for an exact and a hat-trick and an assist from Torres to win by half a point. (Assuming Liam does not score of course). Liam has 3 more correct picks than Steve so Steve must win it by a clear point or half-point.
Alex must hit a 3 point exact and get a hat-trick and 3 assists from Silva AND have Liam miss. Hmm.

Well Done Steve! 8)

A game away now. Time to starting thinking what to spend the money with the fear of sounding too arogant surely Iniesta/Torres cant score hatricks and assists? :p

You shouldn't have said that... :?

Seriously tho, it needed Germany to win last night to keep things very interesting. Now it's just a case of going through the motions. I suppose a hat-trick from Torres and an exact from Steve is slightly, slightly, plausable but so unlikely. He would need that assist too so it really is a 1000/1 shot.
Fingers crossed mate.
If you stick a fiver on a Torrres hat-trick and it happens you'll win a hell of a lot more money than you will winning the league anyway. ;)

So looks like my prediction has to include 4 goals for spain to have any chance of winning. I can let you know what it is Liam. Stick a quid on it just in case ;-)

Yes its highly unlikely. Cant see Spain scoring 4 for a start no matter who scores!

and  £190 is nothing to grumble at its £170 more than what I start with :D

great work Liam - knew you were the winner from a little way out - should have taken Pete's 1/2

So Liam Henton is crowned champion of the first ever Euro Predictions League and his first predictions league ever. Awesome work, well done Liam.
2nd place goes to Anthony Wright and 3rd place goes to Steve Hay.
Steve and Anthony finished on the same points and so positions were determined by the 'most correct picks' rule. First time that's happened but it is the fairest way of doing it.
Alex made a late push for it and ended up finishing just off the money in 4th place. Good effort tho. Asad is left ruing the prediction he forgot to put in costing him 3 points and a £90 2nd place finish. You only have yourself to blame Asad. Remember the 1st rule of the predictions league? It's not be good or even be lucky, it's "get your ****ing predictions in!".
Down at the other end Jeremy steals a place late on moving from 12th up to the dizzy heights of 11th. And perhaps the shock of the tournament, last seasons predictions league proper champion, Ishpaul, finishes dead last. We'll refer to him as Holland from now on.

Final Table

1. LIAM HENTON........... 47
- 2. Anthony Wright ...... 40 ½
- 3. Steve Hay.................... 40 ½
^ 4. Alex Dewsbery......... 39
v 5. Asad Salam................ 38
v 6. Dave Wright............... 37
- 7. Pete Gowdy................ 34 ½
- 8. Luke Harrod............... 34
- 9. Nick Lancaster.......... 34
- 10. Paul Yudt.................. 31
^ 11. Jeremy Rea............... 31
v 12. Lee Cooper............... 30
- 13. Iain Sanderson........ 24
- 14. Ali Khan..................... 22
- 15. Ishpaul Gill............... 16

Thanks to everyone for playing. Hope you enjoyed it, even if you didn't win. We'll be playing the Premiership Predictions League as usual this season which is starting in August. I'll be emailing you all details so if you're up for it let me know.

Thanks
Pete.
