Palitoy MOC 30 backs

Certainly if I come across any I will let you know. Might be worth compiling a list of difficulty for you. There is one on the site somewhere but couldn't find it.

I'm not sure if Starzone (who's a member on here) has any for sale still.

Welcome Steve and welcome to the tough and challenging road to 30 back glory :?

I am well and truly on that journey and am currently finding it v frustrating

A personal frustration is that I started collecting Palitoy MOC so 'late in the day' with respect to when I seriously started collecting vintage SW :!: Around 96 was when I started and didn't focus on Palitoy till 2009  When I think of what I could have had if I started in the mid 90s  HOWEVER on a positive and words of encouragement to you, I managed to complete a full set of mint 12 & 20 backs including the large head Han in a little over a year and a half :D and I currently have 13 of the 20 30 backs I am after-all excellent to mint-picking up 7 in one year

I have to say though getting the 12 & 20 backs was a walk in the park compared to getting these 30 backs :!: Now I am in no way dismissing a set of 12 & 20 backs as easy or not special because a full set is special and these days v hard to achieve due to the cost and desirability factor alone :!: Must say I had a bit of luck in getting the set so quickly too :) Def the most iconic set of all 8)

Will I ever complete the 30s....who knows :?: I am missing two of the real toughies of the first 10; IG & FX and ultimately it may prob be the Fett and poss Yoda that stop me completing:?:
But there is much fun in the chase and I value every 30 back I own plus it is really great to find each one so am getting much fulfilment in my quest :D

The v best of luck in ur search

Are the 41 backs as h and to come by? I've got a couple but they are not the best condition wise....

Any advice on these would be greatly appreciated too.. Additionally, would be looking to purchase a set of these too!

These are hard buggers to find and I only focusing on reseals as for me it's the budget and it's all about nostalgia - these were the cards and figures I bought as a kid.

I've still never seen a Leia Bespin 30 back for sale (or even a 41 back as although the 30s are more desirable a 41 back is just as good enough for me) in the last 18 months I've been actively searching them out. As Palitoyjunky said, the Yoda and Fett will be super expensive. In the meantime we can just drool are Gary's collection!

Chaz: as for your 2-1B I'd say about £40-£50 as it is opened and the card seems sun faded/damaged? I paid around that for a very similar condition 30 back Lobot last year (sun damaged and opened).

41 backs are cheaper, as no character made their debut on this card, so they are not as desirable. However finding them is another matter, some are more difficult to find than the 30 bks. I'll have to check an old pic of mine, but sure I got upto nearly 20 or so.

Some are quite common though Lobot,2-1B and a few others crop up regularly.

Buggers to find would be Bossk ,WBG,any of the 20 bk characters, I did have a LXW but that was all I ever came across.
BTW slider I have a 30 and 41 Leia Bespin as part of my Leia focus. They do come around, just have to be lucky

Yep indeed some of those 41s are near impossible to find!! I had the rare pleasure of handling a Bossk a year or two ago found by Lee! I am more than happy to have 41s as a stop gap whilst waiting for the 30s being a debut MOC collector :) have a lovely AFA 80 Ugnaught that will be for sale/trade when I get my hands on a 30 example

Still have quite a few of these to find as cardbacks, you're right about some of them being hard to find.

41 backs are another interesting set to put together. I kind of like these more than 30's in the sense that every figure that appears on the back also appears on the front! The second set of 30 back characters do not appear on the card.

Lee is right, they can be a lot cheaper and in a lot of cases are less rare, but most are still pretty tough to come by compared to Kenner equivalents.

Though the 41 back is usually more comon that the 30 backs, this is not always the case. From my experience the following are a lot tougher to find on 41 than on 30;

Bossk
Luke Bespin (though only compared to 30a. 30b is almost Fett standard rare)
Lando
Hoth Rebel soldier
White Bespin Guard

It's interesting to note that these are all from the first 10!

I was offered a Large set of Palitoy 30 backs in the early 2000, may be the collection Gary bought.
Cant quite remember how many were in the set but i do know Yoda was one of them.
I believe the asking price was around the £3000 mark.
I had just started collecting the 12/20 backs and £3000 at that time was just too much for me.
Just wished I knew back then how sought after they were.
I have owned a couple of 30 backs in the past but my main aim was the first 20 set.

Sure I have mentioned this before at some point but I rem going into 'Modellers Loft' around 1997 and seeing approx 15 30 backs all mint-(like most of Alan Hall's stock back then) priced between £70-£90. Picked up a Luke Bes priced at £90 but haggled down to £80 (those were the days)
They weren't even referred to as 30 backs, just rem asking why one Lobot MOC was priced at around £40 and another with a larger Palitoy logo (the 30 back) was priced at £70? Was just told it was an earlier example.
Also rem being told the Fett was quite rare and would cost around £500 :!: like I say those were the days

I still remember that Vectis auction where the Fett, WBG and Han Bespin set went for £250 or something around that!

Early 2000's I can remember them starting to rise in price. I think dealers had started to realise how rare there were and that popularity had begun to increase. Prior to that it was all about the 12 backs.

I went to that auction and bought a few lots, they were in batches of 3 or 4 and when I paid and collected them they were wrapped together with elastic bands

Because I already had the Fett I stopped bidding on that lot at £200.........Doh hindsight is a wonderful thing!

We've all been there.

Lack of hindsight is a bitch!

Still, at the end of days they're only toys!

Those 30a's and b's really are a site to behold. Would love to put them up on the palitoy guide if you feel like sharing them to a wider audience.

:)
