Hi,

A colleague at work found this headboard in his loft. Sadly it was facing down for a long time so he had no idea what it was until they had some roof work done and came across it. It had been walked on which is where the scratches had come from. He has tried to find some information about but hes not having much luck so I told him I'd post here as theres some damn fine experts here. Anyone have any information about it?

I've never seen this before, but 1985 was really late in terms of the licensing so it would have been around at the time of the DROIDS cartoon and POTF line, which is what is classed as the end of the 'vintage' run.

Are we sure it's a headboard for a bed? What are the dimensions? Could this be a POS item? Given that there is what looks like an empty speech bubble. It also has a very foreign look to it, in terms of the illustration style and composition.

Very similar in style to these original 1977 stickers:

It's a very interesting item nonetheless.

It's pretty big and look's like headboard for a small child's bed. We guessed the speech bubble was for writing the child's name in, all speculation as we have no idea to its true purpose.

I won't be at work for a while but if I get a chance I'll try and get some measurement's.

That's mental! Never seen anything like it :)

I'm wondering if it's off some sort of game or piece of sports equipment or maybe a child's outdoor play set.

Basketball head board maybe?

That was my first thought but there doesn't appear to be any bolt holes for the hoop.

I'm not convinced by the POS idea but only because is looks very large for a brand past its heyday and also because there is no writing on it at all: if he speech bubble was for a price you'd still expect some branding like "Droids" or even "Star Wars" to appear? That's said, it's no headboard, either. Good find and interest groups item :)

This is an official SW product from 1985 from a U.K company called Kid Napped (or some variation of the words).

The item is actually the bottom board of the bed. The head board features Darth Vader and a Stormtrooper. The Stormie is firing his gun, the laser blast is printed on the duvet cover "causing" the hole in the bottom board.

There is also a very basic bedside cabinet in the range in the shape of R2-D2.

I don't have anything from the range but I do have a company brochure. I'll post some scans ASAP.

This is one fricking cool range which I'd love to find one day.

Craig.

Those stickers are the bomb! I remember having Princess Leia, Han and Obi Wan back in the day. Sorry to hijack the thread, but do you know how easy they are to find?

Wow,

Thanks for info, I thought this would be the place to get some knowledge about it. Thanks for the link Michael Sith, my colleague at work will be well chuffed.

Sorry about the rubbish photos. The scanner won't respond to the "Han Solo method" of activation. The catalogue doesn't include the Darth Vader desk listed in the SWCA site.

I picked up the catalogue from a local department store in 85'. They had another one of the ranges on show but not Star Wars. If had been a savvier collector as a fifteen year-old, I might have attempted to order the range but it would have been outside of my budget, considering I was still at school (I was dealing in toys too though). Besides, I was attempting to collect everything else from H.C Ford to the Palitoy range.

It was one of the ranges that thought I might pick up someday. Unfortunately "someday" never arrived!

Thanks Simply Sci-Fi,

That's some great information, my colleague at work will be over the moon as a few people at work have tried to get details about it. Sounds like he has a little gem here.
