Hi all, first time on the forum looks like the place for me. has anyone had anything graded by ukgraders, I got some loose figures done as a test. they are very good there cases are as good as AFA, have a look at there site http://www.ukgraders.co.uk I will post some pictures if I can work out how too. getting some carded figures done at the mo will post a pic of them when I get them back:lol:

I wish them luck but the problem is when you come to sell your graded item I doubt you will get your money back as they are not well known like AFA.

The big deal with AFA, was the way that it was set up, Tom invested a huge amount of time and money to set up cloudcity, over the years they gained a large amount of customers, and also contacts of both dealers and ex employees of toy companies, their reputation was built up over years of trading, then they set up AFA, which offered a service that was missing- to thier exhisting client base, to grade items, so that everyone knew exactly what a grade meant, and also to authenticate rare items, as by that time tom had seen more in both quantity and varying quality than most, so he had an opinion on legitimacy that not many others could claim, then he set up cib, to specialise in such high end pieces.
For another company to try and compete, they would need a similar history.
otherwise they are just a 'boxing/framing' company
and what sort of history do the graders have, i would want to know who they were, and how much they knew, could they spot a fake? or know if a certain variation of figure came on a certain cardback? or would they just seal it in a case without question?

Can I do the What Toygrader? consumer test?

We'd take a couple of cased 12 back palitoys and drop them onto concrete and a variety of other surfaces from 1, 5 and 10 metres in height and see how well they are protected.

And then in a watchdog type homage of monitoring bad traders we'll put them in a parcel marked "fragile" & "this way up" and do some undercover filiming of the postmen playing football with them in the sorting office.

Marks out of 10 and the like.

:p

And then in a homage to the Antiques Roadshow we'd invite Arthur Negus*
to look at a selection of graded cards and figures and give his opinion on the authticity of their grades based on his expert knowledge of 18th century porcelian and furniture.

*May be dead and require digging up. I guess that would make it more like "Weekend at Bernies".

yes I think they have a long way to go before they are anything like AFA but I say give these guys a chance, looks like they put a lot of time and money in to this and if it saves us some we will all be happy. I don't think I will lose money as I got the figures for a very good price and also got a good price on the grading.

Stedb, welcome to the forum.
What's your focus?

If you don't mind me asking, do you have any connection to or interest in this UK grading company?

my thoughts exactly   he must be on commision.i think it would be good to get them over here and see what they know as it would save you guys loads who like their stuff graded

at the mo palitoy logo cards only have 5 up to now, no mate nothing to do with ukgraders although I did sell one of the guys some afa gaded figures last year. cheers ste

just had an email back from them as i asked about what they grade.....

they said that they will grade a vehicle/playset even if its been opened, but not if its been assembled !!!!

they also said this !!

"We are also going to make available direct from our website slide bottom cases for carded figures of all genres so that might be of interest to you."

to bloody right mate ...!!!

The grading cases look good and if they are doing sliding bottom cases to the standard of AFA ones then I think they could clean up in Europe as theres no customs charges :D

I'm wary of the grading side of things though. Theres no details regarding impartiality on their website. AFA do have systems in place to ensure their grading service does not favour anyone in particular. :?

he just sent me this....

"We will be doing them around Ã'£8.99 each or if you order 5 or more then we will add ones for free depending on how many you want, its going to save people alot in all on postage etc.
Steve"

Are they going to have procedures in place to stop them getting turned over every week?

I think I'm right in saying that stuff sent to AFA goes to a holding place and then on to the proper place so that they don't get robbed all the time.

I could be wrong though.
