Just wondered what you lads thought regarding having your items graded by the AFA.

I'm only talking MOC's and not dragging up the old AFA 'U' grade debate.

I personally prefer my MOC's to be graded but that's just my humble opinion.

I've got a few MOC's that I'm thinking of sending away but unsure whether to do so.A lot of my colection is graded but also got a fair few pieces that aren't and I'd like them graded.

I just wondered what everyone prefered.

Lee,

my vote would be yes as long as you were confident it was going to get a decent grade (85 or above for a standard MOC, 75/80 and above for rarer MOCs).

But at the end of the day they are yours mate so if you want them graded send them away.

Good luck if you decide to send them away.

Steve

Cheers Steve, just can't make my mind up whether to send or not.

Most are Pali ESB's and are some are pretty mint others not so.I'll see how the poll goes and what other folks opinion is before deciding.

Lee - get those MOCs graded especailly if they are rare Palitoys. Even if they come back 80s the cases alway make for a great display.

Grant a couple may be 75's,1 or 2 lower still due to card/bubble damage, you never can tell. Also got a few which should get an 85 :D

I agree with you the cards look a lot better when they are graded.

I'm in a similar posiiton Lee. Most of my collection is graded, but I've got about 8 MOC's I'm consdering sending to AFA. When I say considering, I have been "considering" it for near two years in some cases.
Like yours most will grade well, 1 not so well, but I'm just not brave enough to risk sending them acorss the pond.

Lee

Im no expert but It wouldnt matter what grade your Palitoys get I suppose because quite alot of them command a huge premium because of the rarity.

If AFA had an office in the UK I would have stuff graded.

Too nervous to send it all the way to the US then back again.

And the cases offer no support to the bubble, which always scares me.

I'd get them graded Lee.

I have never sent stuff off for grading but I plan to do so in the future.

I'll be mainly looking to grade my palitoys and foreign carded, I wouldn't get loose figures graded. I'm also liking my graded vehicles at the mo.

For the higher end items like Palis and 12 and 20 backs I think it's a good investment to get them graded if you feel you're gonna get a good grade.

Be interesting to see how much it costs you mate, keep me posted

Interesting to hear everyones different views, thanks.

If I decide to send a few away(which I think I will end up doing)I'll get some pics up when they come back.

I really like to see a MOC graded in an AFA case and it will only increase it's value.

Just a suggestion but as sending stuff across to the US for AFA grading isn't cheap why don't we set up some sort of organised batch sending of the items, you post your item to someone (trustworthy) in the UK who will forward on to the US. Could also work for loose figures. Haven't done my calculations so I could be talking crap, but it might work out a lot cheaper. Also had a few glasses of wine so probably not thinking too straight at the moment too.

My ideas always sound good to myself when I'm drunk . :D .. It's only the next day when I realise their rubbish and notice the empty bottles. I'm off work tomorrow so makin the most of it

Hello

If any of you are put of by sending high grade MOCs to AFA in the US just put them in a good sturdy box with millions of foam chips and put the item itself in a star case/ if its a carded figure. When AFA return your item they always make a great job of boxing up your items. They do it in the exact same manner as I suggested above. Safe as houses. Iv never had an item damaged either on its way to or from AFA. Its not that expensive either as you pay no customs because they are just returning your item you have sent for casing. I agree tho that it would be brilliant if they had a British office also.

what about as somebody mentioned earlier, the pressure of the figure bouncing about on the bubble?

Stuff the star case with tissue and pray to the gods...

I think Gary was refering to the return journey from the US when it's inside the AFA case.

Suppose it can happen, but then so can being struck by lightening. :D

    Imagine all those Palitoys turning into this Lee!!!
