So I found out today that Royal Mail, after their unscrupulous and obscene price hikes on small packages earlier this year, are already having to do a u-turn on the idea. I guess people weren't stupid enough to let them rip them off and started using couriers instead, as i did and i know many others did.

The previous hike saw the £3 UK Small Package size allowance shrink down to box not big enough to fit a tea cup in and anything larger, say the size of a single shoe, was launched to £5.60something. Making it impossible to sell anything on ebay of a larger size (including MOCs, mini-rigs, etc etc) impossible.

Hermes courrier service costs about £4.20-60 for any size box weighing less than 2k (which is a ****ing lot). I sent a GIANT Yak to Scotland for this price. It weighed a ton and you could fit a small person in the box.

Royal Mail have now seen the error of their ways/lost a ****ing bollock through their own greed ( ) and now gone back and increased the size of a Small Package parcel.
I don't have the exact measurements yet but the guy at the post-office today showed me the box size and it was pretty big. Larger than a shoe box and i'd say you could definitely fit an MOC in it. This means it will now cost £3 for a small package up to this size. (not sure on the weight allotment but i'll find out)

I haven't been able to find a link to post with official info. Perhaps someone else can find some.

Good news for all you ebayers out there and general SW forum sales. 8)

Yeah my chap at the Post Office mentioned this as well - good news all round I say

Any ideas when it is due in ?

Yeah he said next week. Pretty sure he said monday. I'll double check tomorrow.

Great news for buyers and sellers. Now I just wish someone could sort out those greedy ****ing energy companies!!

This line made me laugh - "This brought Royal Mail in line with other major postal operators, for example, in Germany, France and Italy"
Yeah, that's not a ****ing good thing!! Those countries postal services are a ****ing mess and way over-priced. Costs them about 15 quid to send a small ****ing parcel to the UK. Thank christ we're not that bad! Yet.

Now this really pissed me off!! :x

Why I hear you ask??, well I just spent over an hour not a week ago in my shed painstakingly making a bloody postage size guide template out of ply, so I am sure I get it right prior to hitting the P.O  how bloody typical is that then :|

Great news though, the lady at my post office told me the other day :D

Why not cardboard, Frank?

im sticking with collect+/yodel as their online tracking (if you create an account) is instant unless im sending a jiffy bag i aint using royal mail.

plus i dont have to queue behind some stinking chavs claiming benefits lol

Sticking with Hermes - they come to my door and it only costs £5 to ship a computer monitor. Bargain

Royal Mail lost me with their price hikes and too many lost or damaged items with no comeback.

For stuff that size yeah but i ship show box size parcels containing items to the value of about £7 so back to £3 with Royal Mail it is! :D
Expensive stuff you still gotta send tracked no question.
Also, i don't have to queue as i have a 'Drop & Go' account with them. 8)

I'll still use Hermes for a £3 parcel - it will cost me £5 but that's £5 not in Royal Mail's coffers and a saved trip to the post office. The amount of cards and parcels to family members that disappear and you have no come back unless you get proof of postage for everything.

Yeah i hear ya but i don't really care who gets my money. I send 20 parcels a month so i don't need to be spending £2 extra per parcel. Royal Mail have offered the best price on the market with this move so they get and deserve my business. Simple as that.

sorry to resurrect such an old thread  i still use r.m but as i was saying to one of the lassies in the post office just last week with rms greed they had lost from me alone this year i worked out just under 3k and im not even a business this was between feb to now as i opted out to use couriers, this 3k they lost i think would have cost me around 4.5k with the hikes. i only use rm now for special deliveries simply as couriers cant give as much comp at a decent price and get as fast as special does ,i would love to know what in total roughly the greedy bstrds at r.m lost since introducing those mass hikes earlier this year it must be millions upon millions and im glad  8) ,on principal allthough its been reduced again i wont be re-using normal services .respect where its due

How the **** are you sending 3 grands worth of post if you're not a business??? Or are you just a really obsessive christmas card giver??
