latest film/ dvd you have seen

A couple of contrasting watches in the last week or so:

Les Misserable - or Misserable watch. No idea by but I bought into the hype around this and thought it could be worth watching, it wasn't, by the end I couldn't have cared less who lived and who died and gave up....

Django Unchained - Tarantino on top form again, I loved everything about this film and what a bunch of great performances to boot, well worth a watch.

The last thing on earth i'd want to do is watch Hugh Jackman, Russel Crow and Anne Hathway sing their over-acting, self-adoring asses off.

I too watch Django last night. Loved it. Great fun. Tarantino making the most watchable hollywood films around as always. Not as strong as his early work but then that's not really fair, you shouldn't judge anyone by the quality of those 2 films. His films these days border on spoof but his directing, pacing and dialogue still stands tall above all others. So altho not an all-time classic, still one of those films you can't wait to watch again which is such a rarity these days.

Ha
Yeah in retrospect Les Miss was a bad call, just somehow I wanted it to be good...

Agree with Tarantino. He is making really good films now, not just 'pop-culture' classics, I do love Pulp Fictions and Dogs, Jackie Brown was rubbish and Kill Bill was good but not great. I wasn't a massive fan of Bastards but really liked what he was trying to do and with Django I think he got it just right, although his own cameo with an Aussie accent might have been a misstep :)

Just watched Bourne legacy, ok but no great shakes...a bit strange as I didn't get the link through to the Matt Damon character...

Anyways for a bit of action not great, not as good as the Damon bournes

Watching Top gun tonight though.....so that'll make up for it

" I feel the need for speed"

Yeah agreed. I wasn't blown away by Basterds either. Good first half, so-so 2nd half. Meh. Back on form with Django altho i agree, Tarantino himself was, for once awful. Bad choice to play an aussie. But that was once small blot on an otherwise excellent movie.

Loved Basterds. Great script and mental, over the top, bloody, violent action.

Best thing about the whole film is SS Colonel Hans Lander. Fantastic part and well played.

Is that him? He was easily the best actor by a long way. First time i saw Basterds his character had me gripped. So much tension in those scenes. The part in the farmhouse was a great opener 8)

Other than that a lot of the film drags. Couldn't stand the leading lady. Everything with her (except the apple strudel) was dull dull dull. That scene in the cinema where she puts on makeup and the David Bowie song is playing was so disjointed from the rest of the movie. It makes me cringe every time. Moody cow

Yeah thats him, those 2 films just wouldn't of been the same without him,I could watch the farmhouse scenes in Basterds and the first third of Django again and again and again.

Yeah sorry I assumed you had seen it xpack,Tarantino's new film is called 'Django Unchained',as Plantman says there is an old film called 'Django'.

Is Django brand new? Is it better than Basterds?

Just came out on DVD/Bluray. I bought it on bluray for £15. Never usually pay that much for films these days but i'm a huge Tarantino fan and wanted to make sure i saw it "properly".
In my opinion it is better than Basterds. It's just a little tighter all round as a movie.
