I watched Joker last night. I thought it was OK but not worthy of all the hype its getting. Nicholson is still the best Joker for me!

Couldn't desagree with you both any more if I tried. Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix wipe the floor with Nicholson for me. Each to their own though. :lol:

Agree to a point.

For me:
- The performance was outstanding as an isolated acting study, but that's not what the film was or what it was trying to be.
- the supporting cast was forgettable, possibly because of the great performance, but more likely because they were all weakly portrayed, written and directed.
- didn't get the Wayne family in it, too much of an attempt to shoehorn modern-world political figures into the film in a bid to look clever and woke.
- The joker as a character wasn't the joker, it was something completely different dressed up in a character unrelated to the content.

I guess I would've appreciate the film more if it wasn't tied to the comic book character; the performance is an insightful study of MH issues and the broken political system associated with that in the US.

I probably prefer Jack Nicholson of all the Joker portrayals...

Agreed, like all modern films these days it just tries too hard. Was his performance impressive? Yes, if I was going to watch improv theatre on a Wednesday night in Shoreditch. But I'm watching a film about Batman, in which I expect to be entertained which the 1989 version succeeded at in almost every way. And I don't believe it's just rose tinted glasses as I loved the film when it came out and even back then it was just 'another' Batman reboot which die-hard fans of the comics and 1960s TV series didn't all enjoy.

Free Solo, was sick with nerves watching that climb even though I knew the outcome. Can feel the palms of my hands sweating every time I watch the last 20 minutes of that documentary.

The last couple of days I have seen some episodes of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, I remember it from the 90s when I some times saw a few episodes in tv. I must say geroge lucas did a great job with this tv series 8) Cool to see his father as a young man, I must say he do a fantastic job and I can see a lot of sean connery in him playing the old henry jones senior :lol: also cool to see how indiana jones get his whip and his gun

Saw 1917 the other night, bloody brilliant I thought. Extremely well acted and some fantastic cinematography. Certainly not you average war film. It's intense at times, heart warming at others but it really conveys the frustration of war right down at the lowest level through the experiences of average soldier.

Watched 'Last Shift' last night. Having watched a slew of crap supernatural/horror films recently I wasn't expecting much from this but really enjoyed it. I don't want to give much away, but as the IMDB review says it's scary, jumpy and mostly unpredictable.

As stated above, 1917 is indeed well worth catching on the big screen. Thoroughly well done and particular mention goes to the cinematography - Roger Deakins shows the entire film is one seemingly endless shot.

Underwater is worth catching, not a bad film at all. At times, it feels like Alien set under the sea.

If you like the work of Guy Ritchie, then Gentlemen will probably please you. Clever, moves well and is very nicely shot with some fine performances.

Grudge, again, worth catching if the trailer or that type of movie does it for you.

That is four of the five recent trips I've made to the cinema. The other one was another viewing of Episode IX.

Saturday I found Iceman on dvd at a garage sale. I also saw it saturday when I came home, a movie that I remember I saw in the good old 80s. Some people find a Neanderthal frozen in the ice and they resurrect him.

Also funny to see James Tolkan in that movie with a little bit of hair on his head, this is the first time I have not seen 100% bald :lol: I remember him from back to the future, masters of the univers and top gun 8) Danny Glover also has a part in the movie

I'd seen The Good the Bad and the Ugly before but it was ages ago, probably pan & scan. This is a whole new experience.

If you do not know it, this movies are called Spaghetti Western, I love to watch Spaghetti Western movies. There was made nearly 1000 Spaghetti Western movies in the 60s and 70s.

Movies about Django, Sabata and Sartana is really great movies, I have seen some of them but not all of them. I have seen all 3 Sabata movies, a few Django movies and a few Sartana movies. Some of my favorite actors in Spaghetti Westerns is Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef, Eli Wallach, Gian Maria Volont, Franco Nero, Klaus Kinski, Terence Hill and Henry Fonda.

Thanks! I've seen a couple of these but its really just seeing them in HD on a decent TV that's the mind-blowing thing. Lee Van Cleef in the first 10 minutes of A Few Dollars More really sets the damn tone. :lol:

You are welcome, I am sure not all are in decent HD tv yet or ever will be. I think I have seen between 50 and 100 of this Spaghetti Western movies and I would say most of them are cool and funny but some are better than others :lol: I agree Lee Van Cleef is cool and sets the damn tone :lol: I If you like him then I would say watch Sabata 1 and Sabata 2 with Lee Van Cleef, he is awesome in this movies :lol: Yul Brynner plays Sabata in Sabata 3 but he is also good, but he is not Lee Van Cleef :lol:

I also love the fast shooting is Spaghetti Western movies, they shoot different in Spaghetti Western movies than they shoot in us western movies. And the humor is much better in Spaghetti Western movies :lol:

I've seen a fair few old and new recently. The one that I have to mention is an oldie ..but not a goldie :?

Cocktail with Tom Cruise. I had never seen it but was convinced about how good it was. It was not. This for me is Cruise's worst film. Unlikeable characters with implausible character traits. The fact that they are up their own arse about working in a TGI Friday. Elizabeth Schu's character actually sticking with that useless prick. The lead character who actually thinks you can become a Wall Street trader without qualifications.

Basically a terrible terrible film.

Videodrome. It's on Netflix now. Gory, psychological 80s horror. I believe it's a bit of a cult classic. Personally I liked the bits with Debbie Harry. That was it. There's a deeper meaning to the film but it was pretty slow and not a great deal happened in it.

Captain Fantastic on Netflix. Seen many films, but this one has to be watched. A completely different approach. A must watch.
