Sicario

Excellent movie. A pretty shocking scene near the end. Although after working through several TV shows - GOT, The Wire, The Shield, Breaking Bad etc, this felt rushed and short by comparison for a topic of this scale. This came across as a long pilot, then more needed to come. Hollywood is going to struggle to make anything of note compared to series which can take their time and develop everything.

Been working on the Hunger Games movies. (Only because I've started to run out of things to watch). Just finished the 3rd. So, it's basically Jennifer Lawrence's character crying all the time, with the occasional bit of "seen it before" type action?

Considering the awards I thought it might have been at least partially decent. Clearly not.

How does it compare to the original?

Just finished Oliver Stones Untold History Of USA Documentary series. Pretty interesting use of Star Wars footage and analogy in the last episode. Very good series.

Terminator Genysis - unnecessarily over complicated nonsense, that simply doesn't make sense... a new low for the franchise
San Andreas - My run of terrible film watching continues, although as a family we roared with laughter from start to finish, so not all bad I guess

The latest Steve Jobs movie, the Danny Boyle one.
Interesting enough, focuses on the man himself rather than the products.
Worth a look if you're planning a quiet night in.

**FINALLY!!!**

Yes guys it is true, I have finally seen not just a good film, but an amazing film...

Woman in Gold - a stunning piece of film making, beautifully shot, first class acting and an almost unbelievable true story behind it.
Cannot recommend this enough, it is brilliant!

On a slightly different bent, but a very similar subject, please do read The Hare with the Amber Eyes by Edmund DeWahl; a book of true cinematic scale and depth.

Its ok lads, after the minor blip last week me seeing and reviewing a great film, normal service resumes already this week, I've watched another few shockers in the past 48hrs:

- Mad Max Fury Road - Utter shite, zero redeeming factors on any level outside of the vehicle & costume design 2/10
- The Salvation - This one stars Mads Mickelson (Hannibal and soon to be Rogue One), he's a phenomenal actor IMO, but a poor vehicle which is a shame... somewhere in there there could have been good film, sadly though this wasn't really it 4/10
- Robot Overlords - One for the kids really, but still awful 1/10

Loved Mad Max.

It was nice to see a film that breaks the typical film form that Hollywood has adopted for its movies.

Beginning -> middle-> end.

I liked that it took constant risks as well, like the main protagonist takes a back seat and acts more like a voiceless narrator.

I also thought it was so bold to have a script that could be summed up in 2 sentences. I don't think it does this by mistake either. The film is very aware of what it is and its purpose.

I would like to see big budget films take more risks like this and perhaps we can break the sequel/prequel mould that has dominated cinema recently. (Even though I guess this is a sequel/soft reboot of sorts)

Thought Deadpool was similar. A break away from the convey belt of factory film making.

Seen loads of goodfilms recently.

Anomilisa is a technical marvel, but a really wild story considering the amount of work that went into it.

Bridge of Spies is good. Typical Speilberg, fantastic production.

The Big Short is also good, especially if your interested in the financial crisis.

Blackfish- Wow, this film has destroyed SeaWorld and rightfully so. Depressing as it is wonderful. **** SeaWorld.

Point Break. Its a lot like Terminator Genysis. Utter bollocks. Like both of these remakes have completely missed what made the originals so amazing. Couldn't even get to the end of Point Break. Coperate film making at its worse.

Its so easy to make an outstanding Terminator film. There are 2 already that can be viewed for inspiration.

Speaking of raping a franchise........that Ghostbusters trailer.........

Yeah, couldn't agree more on that one. Sick and tired of sequels, prequels and reboots. How many spiderman films have there been? It's been rebooted more times than my computer FFS.
As for all the superhero movies.....Zzzzzzzzz.
Same ****ing plot in each and every one, all that changes are the names.

But then Holywood ran out of original ideas years ago, and just played it safe. A superhero movie with a lot of money soent on advertising will make money. Whereas a film that's different or unique might not, so why risk it. And they wonder why audience numbers are falling!

Legend-7/10 - Hardy superb as usual
Revenant-8/10 -Quality from Leo, deserves Oscar
Criminal Activities - 7/10
Mad Max - 7/10
London Has Fallen - 6/10
Attack of the Clones - 10/10 :D

Watched Philadelphia, depite this being a very highly regarded film in my house, it was the first time in about a decade that I had sat down to watch it again properly.

Thought it a worthwhile addition to the 'education' of my 15 year old too. I note that this 'education' has also involved The Breakfast Club, Ferris Buellers Day Off, Stand By Me as well as some not so classic ''coming of age' films as The Inbetweeners (at least he now knows all the schoolyard bravado is BS)...

Wife and I were in tears at the end affected both by the film obviously, and the fact that our freind Jon died of HIV only a couple of years ago, Tom Hanks and the make-up crews, sadly, really got it spot on. My son though (thankfully I guess) was not too emotionally effected, but simply asked why people were such arseholes to gay guys in the old days. Felt like a parenting triumph in a small way...

Watched the morning showing of Batman V Superman today.
NO SPOILERS.
I was going to boycott this cus of Affleck, but gave in on a lazy Good Friday.
It was reasonable. For me, I'd put it on par with something like The Avengers, meaning it was good to see at the cinema, but not something that I want to own on DVD.
