Dennis - the 3 pack is one of those items that almost makes me want to collect more modern, almost!, love the way the look TBH - you going for them all?.

handyandy - you got a bit of a frosty reception posting modern here as it is primarily a vintage collecting forum, but I would not mind seeing a few of them close up as I did not even know they had made new mini die-casts - can we see the new Tie Bomber ?, did you get them at a bargain price?, looks like a nice enough set & again more modern seem to be getting closer to the mark & worthy of a little attention.

Lovely Tri-Logo's there - esp the AT-AT Driver

Am I being daft - but why is it a miss card ?

Thanks.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it to be that there was a limited amount of cheap thin cards, and generic long thin bubbles made to get rid of surplus stock. The correct figure went on the correct cards until they'd ran out. Then the fig would be put on whatever cards were left. But still usually related in terms of imperial, droid, pilot, character in different outfit, etc.
So this is a case of the right fig on the right card.

If you had it in your hand you'd really notice the difference in quality. Feels really cheap, and can be mistaken for a fake.

Not a real miscard but a miscard bubble :)

Yak Face, Leia Hoth, At-At Driver and possibly a few others can be found on the correct cards but with "miscard" bubbles. That's where the term comes from, they are correct but that small bubble is so associated with miscards (both Trilogo+Meccano) that people refer to them by the bubble sometimes.

I guess they probably churned a few out correctly while they had cards + figures that matched then the miscards ensued.

Edit- ps - the card it's on is a mass produced Palitoy backer (I call it a type 1 Palitoy card due to how common it is - factory unpunched and quite thin) which usually are the ones used on miscards however not all miscards appear on these card types, end of the day everything was mixed and they used it up to get rid of it!

On another note- great pick ups - I always get a kick out of seeing variant bubbles, did you pick these up local? I haven't seen them about on ebay/forums :)

Caught red handed, I don't miss much lol

Ha Ha
Thanks Joe. I thought you'd be the man to put me right if I'd gone wrong.
I've learnt a hell of a lot from your website, but still a lot more to find out. :D
I was right then with the miscard bubble, but not the cardback. I'll have to dig out my others, as from memory it seems a lot thinner than the rest. Might have some other variants I didn't realise.

I picked them up from the Sandown Park toy fair last month. First fair I've been to since late 90's.
I was shocked at how little Star Wars stuff there was.
I paid £50 each for the, which I think is a decent price in todays market. :?: A lot more than the £12 I paid for my small bubble 2-1B in the 90's
I too am really fascinated by the whole bubble variant thing, and I think they were just sold to me as tri-logo's
He had some nice stuff, and going on the price that DSD went for yesterday, I think I should have had his for £115.

Right, gotta dash, my friend's band is on in 45 mins!

Awesome Tri Logos, now I just want that bloody book even more

Which book are you talking about? From Meccano to Tri Logo? I emailed Stephane (the author) a couple of weeks ago and asked if he will bring an updated version. He answered a little later saying that he's not planning to do a new edition, but he might reprint a small amount of books which he would sell for a little more than it cost when it was first released (reason being the small amount of books he's planning to reprint obviously).

A few days ago one of these books was sold on eBay for a lot of money. I really hope he'll do the reprint, I would definitely order one. :)

I would also recommend Stephane's book if you can get one, unfortunately it took him 5 years to sell out now it appears everyone wants one lol..

Small part of an interview I did with Stephane recently - http://trilogo.info/trilogo-collector-interviews/stephane-faucourt/

Trilogo.info –
Let's talk about your book, Meccano to Trilogo which came out in 2006, can you tell us a little about the process of designing and printing a book? Was it self financed and would yo do it again? Perhaps a second edition..?

Stephane – Since Meccano to Trilogo was self-published it was also self-financed, it was a terrific experience in which I had to learn everything related to the printing industry: from software, to printing techniques which is all necessary to understand what the possibilities are and how best to fulfill them.

The book took a full 6 months of sustained work just to synthesize the information, shoot all the pictures, scan documents, and make the page layout. Regarding the process, I started to build a list of all the themes / articles / items I wanted to include, and then I wrote all the articles in raw format while I was making the design for each section. Once this was done, I had to calculate the pages / articles combination and I started editing using InDesign software.

I had started to contact printing companies during the process so I could test a few PDFs just to make sure I was on the good way to deliver a compatible file which was ready to make the printing plates for offset printing.

When I received the books, the house was loaded of boxes but it quickly reduced thanks to preorders; I had to ship about 200 books on the first week everywhere in the world.

Trilogo.info – I saw the pictures of the first boxes of books that you had! I bet that was an amazing feeling to see them all ready to go!

Stephane – Yes it was and I would do it again! Of course it was a lot of work, but it was also a real pleasure to be in touch with so many collectors by email or on the forums. I also did shows and conventions in France, Belgium and the UK with Celebration Europe back in 2007, a fantastic opportunity to meet the actual collectors face to face and share experiences and passion for collecting.

I currently have no plan for a 2nd edition although since 2007, I gathered so much material that could easily upgrade most pictures with mint items, add dozens of pages with more variants, new discoveries, some prototypes, diecast, dolls, and other stuff… If that happens one day, I'm not sure I would do it on my own like I did the first time because of having to store and ship hundreds of books. Possibly an electronic book could be a nice alternative but I'm not sure it would please collectors who would probably prefer a paper book.

Trilogo.info – I am sure I speak for many when I say the community would welcome a second edition of your book! Do you think Meccano to Trilogo has had a positive impact on the collecting world? What kind of goals were you aiming to achieve with the book when you released it and what have you noticed about "buying trends" since the release, did prices go up on the items covered in Meccano To Trilogo?

Stephane – After having collected for many years and owning a complete set of Trilogo cards, Bilogo and Meccano vehicles, and a nearly full set of Meccano cards, I realized there was still almost no information about these lines. I wanted to share all the information and pictures I had gathered, but a website (I had stopped mine in 2001) needed a sustained effort over years to keep it updated etc… so a book was finally the best medium to provide information to the hobby, it was a big amount of work, but a "one-time" thing unlike a website.

Although it wasn't expected (at least on my side), I clearly see the impact that the book had on the vintage collecting field, it tenfolded the interest for Trilogo and Meccano items with selling values and it also created in more recent times a thirst for variants, especially for "French trilogos". In a positive way, it makes these existing items among the most desirable, on a negative side, some values are so high that I would probably not be able to buy them nowadays and it added a lot of "competitors" hunting for the rare stuff..

I would also welcome a second edition of his book or any other European publication but Stephane told me and others it is an immense project to launch a book, second edition or not so while it would be a great addition to anyones vintage library I would try to hunt down the original just in case..although don't go bonkers like the one that recently ended at £72..
