I wonder what I will find at the local car boot sale this year?

I see loads of people getting good scores at boot sales but I've never found anything good at a car boot, often find modern things to give my little lad but never anything decent for me.
I must just have really ****** boot sales near me

You've got to be early otherwise it'll be gone!!!

Like I said last year, I took 2 beaters with me when we went to sell as an experiment, we had our stall set up at 7am and between then and 8am I must have had almost 30 different people ask how much they were so that tells you something.

I tried getting conversation going with everyone that asked and the majority were shocked and didn't want to communicate now it could be that it was very early in the morning why they weren't up for chatting but I'm putting it down to them being dealers just wanting to sell on and make some money

There were about 4 people who were genuinely interested and I remember one telling me he'd found a sly snootles and an atst the week before

Go early otherwise don't expect to find much

I reckon a lot of people are going to car boots a bit hungover too, nearly every time iv'e gone to one in the past iv'e either been a little hungover or still feeling pissed and went there just for something to do and get fresh air.

But yeah in all fairness I do think 80% - 90% of the early attenders are all flippers, last time I helped my mom do a car boot sale we got there at about 7am and as we were pulling up in our spot in the dark we had about 30 zombies ( or ***** ) all surrounding us looking through the windows before we even parked ( I didn't even see that many people as we were driving through the field and I was thinking where the **** did all these nobs appear from? ). They then crowded around us as we were opening the boot and all asking questions at the same time if we've got this and do we have that blah blah, looking into the boxes and **** as we're setting up and being right up your arse the whole time in fear they'll miss out on something, I got angry and almost told the one guy to **** off and he backed off a bit.

Sad part is you're way too tired to even see any of it coming or react to any of it especially when there's a crowd of them, iv'e heard it's not this bad from other people's experiences so I must have just had bad luck, but i'm never doing one again.

I feel your pain, the first one we did when we were driving on to the pitch slowly we had people tapping on our windows ' any laptops?' 'Any perfumes for sale?' We then got out the car and had an audience/vultures waiting for us to perform this table set up which was bizarre? I unfolded the table and placed an old boxing head guard on it and watched about 30 people try and touch it??? So weird! We threw as much as we could on the table and a fight almost broke out between 2 guys over a retro games console that I had to break up, luckily I've been boxing for 4 years so have no problem handling myself but I was still in shock. Anyway we were ran off our feet for that first 25 minutes of getting everything onto the table and although it was crazy we made most of our money in that time.

We got married in September and have a full loft of unwanted gifts waiting to be sold at one soon probably at the beginning of June so that'll be fun!

That's alright then so at least it's not just me  there's no better way to see people act so desperate than going early to a carboot sale with a car full of boxes, it's just disgusting!, each one knows that each of them is there for the same reason they are so they all try and get their word in ( or hands ) first before anyone else, and it ends up just looking depraved and quite sad. I did laugh about the boxing guard   don't surprise me one bit, everyone wants something so bad that they probably just wanna at least feel something so they don't feel left out. The woman setting up next to us ( clearly an experienced trader ) with loads of bits of costume jewellery and accessories, got out of her 4x4 and told them all to go away and said she's not getting anything out of the car until they're all gone, she had to stand there for 30 mins until they eventually ****** off, they were just hanging there like twats even when she said go away.

One bit that made me really angry afterwards was my mom said after everything settled down, that during all the commotion when we were trying to set up some traveller woman was around the back side of our table in our personal space reaching down into one of our boxes on the floor rummaging and pulling **** out, opening a jewellery box to look at a gold plated chain of which my mom told her it wasn't real it was just plated, and she still got on the phone and got her fella to run over with his scales weighing the ******* thing lol, I didn't even notice none of it happening because I was too busy putting things on the table while trying to fend off 30 idiots. If i'd have seen her taking **** out of our boxes next to the boot without our permission i'd have told her to **** off.

Good luck with your next carboot you're gonna need it.

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change.
I do a few boot sales and treat it all with good humour I get the large things out first and try to off load them first, furniture, bikes, lawn mower etc most to dealers, not bothered as I get what I want, up to them if they want to take longer to get more, I'm glad to get shot of it, then I have more room for the smaller items later, don't get the smaller items sw figs ect out till later when it clams down a bit when I can keep an eye on all the goings on. I quite like the first rush and treat it all as a laugh, have some right funny instances over the years, one little girl ran off with some of my daughters brats dolls one , I shouted stop stop come back come back and take some more , all the other traders and crowd pissed them selves, all good fun  just try to have fun with it :) Just thought of another funny story, bloke came over and said how much for the liberachy records, I didn't have any so asked him where it was, another trader had gone early and left a lot of stuff on the end of my plot, funny cause I sold quite a bit of it records, golf clubs etc through the rest of the day

Good Luck guys,

Not a car boot find but did pick these up today:
Be selling if anyone is interested.

 did you get them from Asda by any chance ?

I think this is my first ever vintage pickup at a boot sale (had plenty of modern, lego, vhs, other nonsense)

Just sat in a tray with other random stuff, he asked a tenner, offered him five as the ramp is missing (i also suggested it wasn't in great condition, but it's mostly just dirty with one decal a bit damaged)

He took the fiver!!

Canopy is also a bit iffy on closer inspection, and obviously no Han in carbonite :/

Funnier thing was, as i was going round the rest of the sale, someone offered to buy it off me, "errr, no!" He then asked if i'd bought it today, part of me wanted to say, "no, i just bring some toys with me"

Any recommendations on the best way to clean without damaging the decals?? Want to preserve it all as best i can!!

Thanks, i've watched the retroblasting restorations, and those seem a little 'destructive' for my liking, more about restoring looks that preserving originality!!

Have just started with some very mild dish soap, cotton buds and kitchen paper, making sure to dry quickly and gently as i go. Already a massive improvement.

No problem, nice one please add a picture of the finished cleaned up one, will look forward to seeing that.

Definitely a lot cleaner now, not sure it's perfect yet, but wary of the decals!

One of the pink diamonds dropped off with the slightest touch, and a few, including the cockpit controls, are just hanging on.

Is there any advised adhesive for re-attaching them??

Well the start of my carboot season has gone off with a bang. I rarely expect to find vintage Star Wars, and even then it's usually common loose beater figures and knackered ROTJ annuals. But today was ******* epic...as far carboot finds go. This little lot from two different car boots this morning; Han and a Jawa from two separate sellers, both mint for a couple of quid each. Then there's the mint in box mini-rigs, still with inserts and unused stickers, poly bags etc. This guy knew what he had, but still fair prices.

Of course I'll probably not find any more in the wild for the rest of the season.

May go to the local one on Thursday if its nice.

there's one at lunchtime close to where I work, but I'm in a different office this week, and they've been cancelled because of wet ground so far this year.

Yesterday wasn't very good at all, picked up a Star Wars filofax for £1 and the first Ghostbusters novel for £1. The Darth Vader belt buckle was a freebie.

Today got the Job Lot for £30, 2x Speeder Bikes, Tie fighter wings, 3 mini rigs and the 3 figures. Picked up the blaster for £1.50, the full 125 SW Cards and the 20 kfc SW cards and the JP cards £12 the lot.
