I Like to Think This Is Run By SW Fans..

Nothing like ink stained chips!

Our fish and chip shops underwent a change about fifteen years ago when they all decided to start calling themselves 'Fish and Chipperies' serving the food in cardboard trays and charging double the normal amount for the same fried crap.

Thankfully that fad has died and we're getting out fried goodies wrapped in paper again, unfortunately the price hasn't reverted back to days of old.

We don't have fish and chip Chinese takeaways up here either. Nor do we see takeaways using newspaper anymore!

mmm that's interesting just a short distance from you (Scotland) they all seem to do fish and chips as a sideline (its frozen chips though! yuk) the town I live in has no nice Chinese Takeaways its all a greasy messy pile of **** :(

Luckily we are not far from Glasgow which has some top Chinese stops :D

Yeah, i go up to Edinburgh quite a bit and it's the same there. Chinese take-aways every 100yrds and half of them do chips as well.

Still one or two chippies Near to me but not many traditional chippies left

There is one near to me, no newspaper unfortunately, that is best I've had for a long time, the batter on the fish is old fashioned with that "sea side" taste to it

There is another chippy in the centre of Ramsbottom near to me again, it's across from the church on Main Street, if anyone lives in the vicinity and not tried it, go there they are top drawer.

Friday tea, fish and chips....it's the law

Oh really, i've had chips from chinese places all my life and they're proper fried chip-shop chips. They often taste ever so slightly different i reckon due to the oil they use but usually they're very good.

Wigan has only one thing going for it. ONE THING!!! ...Tis the land of pies and chips. I don't really like chippy chips but apparently they are tops in Wigan.

You go to the pie shop in Wigan and they sell all manner of crazy **** - curry pies, bean and sausage pasties, minted lamb pie. Delicacies are pea wet (pea juice on pie/chips), babby's head (steak pudding and pea juice), pie barm (aka Wigan kebab) :?

Strange town

Oh yeh, the Casino as well! It amazes me that a town as insular and lacking in diversity as Wigan managed to embrace such a contemporary culture.

Pie butties....now were talking, meat pie on a barm

I know! Pie barm with tomatoe sauce ....just had my tea and suddenly feel hungry again

I remember going to Wigan casino a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away

But I have to say the highlight in my youth in 1979 was
seeing the buzzcocks at The Factory in Manchester then going back the night after to see a little band called joy division..happy days :D

One good thing about being older, happy memories :D

I remember my Dad harping on about seeing the Rolling Stones at a club in Nelson called the imperial or The "imp" as he called it and thinking...you old git , I'm cool and going to see the Buzzcocks and Joy division, he'd laugh if was around, as I'm doing exactly the same now

It's a little like being around in 77 when Star Wars was released, but I was 15 so too old for the toys and didn't have them....what a pillock....hindsight if only

Made up for it since though :D
