$165 and $150 for a saber? ****ing ridiculous!

And thats why I took the reroduction route for my collection :p

$150 / $165 for 1 DT saber or £16 for all 3 colors

Just a question... If you don't have the money or don't want to spend the money a real one costs why would you want to display a replica?

No-one who looks at your collection will know what it is anyway even if it is real unless you are showing it to other collectors so why would you rather own something that's not real?

I could paint a cardboard box red, add some headlights and a spoiler and pretend its a sports car..but it wouldn't be!

I can't afford a DT so I display regular original sabers, isn't that acceptable enough? Surely if the appeal of a DT saber for you guys is owning one then why not buy a real one? (Blue snags cost close to that but most of you wouldn't buy a fake one for £10 would you?)

For me, considering I didn't know what a DT saber was before I got into collecting and there is very limited promotional material or cardback images etc that show DT sabers there is no nostalgic reason for me to possibly want one.

I guess other people like them because they know they are rare and they know the history of them..so why buy a fake one when your interest is there only because of the existence of a real one?

:?

Fair point Joe and I dont currently own the repro dt sabers but I do own a real Blue Snag. I cant justify to myself spending that much on "just a sabre" compared to spending that much for a whole figure. If however swapping out a real sabre for a repro dt purely for my own display is going to save me heaps of money then I see nothing wrong with it.

Each to their own of course Joe, but for me there is no way I am spending that much money on a sabre, it seems silly! I will know that they're fake and I will inform anyone that cares to check out my display (only a couple of mates seem to give a ****) but for me it will enhance it somehow purely for chronological reasons.

Honestly I really get your point Chris, I just think you get the same display effect from a normal saber don't you ? I bet you have Darth,Luke and Ben all in pretty mint condition with original normal sabers so do you really need 3 more bits of fake plastic to have some nice looking figures on display?

I guess I just don't get that part, I can't afford a POTF Anakin so if I wanted one on a card I would buy a trilogo, its original but its an alternative to buying him on a ridiculously overpriced card

i have 2 of each Joe, all in minty condition but like i said for chronological reasons (i like my things in order...used to be CD's not these damn loose figures) I may buy some repros. I get your point Joe....and I'll think about it before buying them...also because I think £16 is too much for 3 repro sabres!

£16 gets you another few variants Chris ;)

I really don't mind if thats what people want to buy, I just wanted to see the reason for it, considering most of us pride ourself on making sure every other figure is all original it makes no sense to me to get to the end and cheat on some sabers lol

FWIW sotoam just sold a DT Luke for $150 on RS and it was pretty nice so you can definitely pick up both a figure and a saber for under $200 (at least for Luke!!)

I`d love a real set of DT sabers for my collection but as of yet i havent won the lottery so no way could afford real ones so reproduction sabers will have to do for the time being who knows at some point with any luck might upgrade to real ones.

Can fully undestand some hatred towards reproduction items expecially when items are brought as legit then turn out to be fake allthough for me i`m just aiming to get a set off loose figures together with the various variations and extra`s for my own pleasure. Personally 9 times out of 10 i cant tell the difference between repo and original weapons anyway and as i`m not intending to sell the collecton on i`m not to bothered if those weapons are real or not they are just there to compliment the figures IMO.

Brought the ones off ebay for £16 yea, thought was a bit risky as at the time the seller was 0 rated so wasnt to sure if was going to get them or not but they did arive today and i`m pretty pleased with them.

I bought a set of the repros years ago for display, and I just like the way they look, arms out and sabres extended :)

I also bought a genuine DT Luke, as I like things to be original if possible, bit it meant theat i paid £90 for a bit of plastic

...but to turn your argument on its head Joe, I have prints of original drawings in my house as I couldn't afford the original. No-one frowns on that

I might yet get the red painted carboard box and pretend its a sports car

good point Spoons!

People have prints of Van Goghs sunflowers yet you can always buy the original if you have enough cash...why have a fake?

Sounds like an RS arguement. I think Joe is just trying to understand the value of a repro in someones collection. For me, there are things I cant afford, will never afford and find somethings way over priced....so in turn, a repro (a good one) satisfies my personal needs and I do not care if others like it...as it is my collection. Just like print copies of great works of art, it is a matter of ones own preferences and sensibilities....and for the record there are those who own copies of SW stuff and do not even realize it.....It's is only as real as you want it to be.

We almost sound grown up on here with this conversation...not sure if I like it or not.

Some very valid points have been raised though.

Yep Todd is right I won't piss on anyone's parade if that's what you enjoy doing! As you said I really wanted to find out more WHY people wanted to have repro items in their collection not "repros are crap and I hate you" lol

I know exactly what damage they can do in the wrong hands and I equally know they bring some people a lot of enjoyment to own them. (there is a guy on RS who has been duped by a DT saber AND a VCJ in a matter of months for example)

Most people that are ok with repros, Todd/Rob(cobra) for example freely admit to enjoying them and for them its a part of the hobby and their collection, they have repro cardbacks, mock up figures that didn't exist, custom loose figures etc and a repro weapon set wouldn't bother them in the slightest.

I think the thing I can't get around my head is that Bollux and probably Triolag probably try to get original figures, weapons and accessories 100% of the time and feel cheated when they get ****ed over with repro guns etc. So to me getting to the end of your set and sticking a couple of fake sabers in kind of ruins the point and makes all that hard work seem pointless..

Are those DT sabers the only fake things in your collection Spoons? If so that's kind of what I mean, you wouldn't settle for anything else fake but then you sneak some DT sabers in lol that's what I can't get my head round.

I bet when you started collecting you didn't think you would have a huge set of quality and rare Han Hoth MOCs or a proof or a first shot etc, but you have all those things because you worked hard to obtain original pieces, if you a bake cake through blood sweat and tears with the best ingredients you can find and then stick a couple of fake cherries on the top it doesn't really have the same effect to me.

Anyway enough with the analogies and I didn't mean to upset anyone, I don't think anyone is going to commit suicide over some DT weapons or change their opinion because of my posts but I really just wanted to ask the question to see why people do give in on some things and not others. If anything its for my own benefit to try and understand a little better.

its all good Joe, no one is getting angry or upset about this.

Just checking

Anyway, move along move along, not much to see here (that hasn't been said already)

If you do I will hunt you down and make you explain why you bought them just like you do when a kid doesn't do his homework!
WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY???????

i dont issue homework...too much ****ing hassle! haha

only problem now is that i have two identical vaders for no ****ing reason!

If you cut down the one you don't wants saber and super glue it to the one you do want you will have a DT much closer to a real one than a fake one
