Hamleys sold

I was at Hamley's the other day, the store is just not what it was. Not sure if the brand is doing well or not though.

I know I have grown but that place has definitely shrunk, junior liked it but it was overcrowded with people and toys, vastly overpriced and the demonstrators seemed bored...

On the other hand, the RC car section was full of vintage Tamiya which was cool, but noone was there to sell anything to me...

Yes a little under 60 million apparently.

I read that the plan is to keep the long established brand the same and build on its international success

Yea its a shame its been sold but at least they say they are going to keep it as it is and not ruin the brand.
Im no business person but £60m sounds quite low for such a big brand. I understand the Iclandic Bank that owned it went under in 2009 when Icelands banks went tits up so most of this money is going to the recievers/administraters.

I used to go up every year as kid just to see the window displays, loved them. Went up one year and half the building had been sold so was 4 windows less!! Agreed the shop is not what it used to be.

So it is actually smaller? I am not imagining it?

I used to 'see' a girl who worked there, she demo'd snake boards and used to ride them around in the shop. When I was there last week I thought 'how the hell did she skate around this place, its tiny, I must really be piling on the pounds...'
