THE MODERN WAY : EPISODE VIII

Continuing on this festive period of shows, Generation Skywalker brings you the latest edition of 'The Modern Way'.

The team once again delve into the latest announcements as we see yet more reveals for the Black Series and The Vintage Collection, but the majority of this months loving goes towards the Hot Toys Tusken Raider and even more so, for the four Episode One Tiki Mugs.

Keeping on a seasonal theme, we look into the world of Hallmark Keepsake Ornaments and discuss what we're hoping to see in 2021. And being Christmas, the team obviously have to delve into the modern archives to find their favourite ever Christmas related figure.

Enjoy the show.

THE HOLIDAY SPECIAL 'SPECIAL'

"It makes us smile, but only because we are laughing at the utter horror. We laugh to avoid the pain" (Mark Beall)

"Words have not been invented to describe how bad it is" (Alex Carter)

"So astounding in its lack of anything that could be considered reasonably watchable that it achieves something of an unintended, surrealist nightmare vision" (Rob Humanick)

We could go on with more and more reviews similar to these opinions. But is The Star Wars Holiday Special really as bad as reported? Does it really justify the reputation that it has?

Jez, Craig and Stuart sit down to answer these questions. The three delve into Variety shows of that time, the plot, the music, the cast and crew amongst other areas to see if there is any charm and positives from this unappreciated 1978 special.

The boys also draw up their own Holiday Specials, with a 'what if' type discussion, if Disney had released a similar type show after The Force Awakens. Will Poe and BB-8 deliver salt from Crait to the Resistance to save Christmas Dinner? Will the 60 minute makeover team be able to rebuild Maz's castle? Will Han Solo's send off be as crazy as Ackmena using a conga to clear a Cantina, listen in and decide for yourselves!

Enjoy the show.

THOSE OLD FOSSILS : Episode VII

Grant, Mark, Craig and Stuart settle down to discuss Vintage Star Wars, and focus on the state of the hobby at the end of a horrendous 2020.

With the pandemic hitting hard, unemployment on the rise, uncertainty to when all this will end, the team admit that they all thought the hobby would take a battering over the year, but how wrong they were as prices spiraled out of control.

The boys look back at some of the stand out auctions from 2020, from C&T Auctions early lockdown Palitoy heavy sale, through to the final ever Astons Auction, they delve into the highlights and also look at some of the insane prices certain items went for. They then discuss the price rise and ponder if the current price structure of these much loved toys is actually sustainable.

It's a hot topic that get's some great discussion flowing.

HE'S THE BRAINS, SWEETHEART!

Back during an Episode of 'Those Old Fossils' in May, Jez made the statement; "Give me a quiz on the original trilogy movies and I'd pan the lot of you", and so here we are to see if his arrogant boast can be backed up.

Jez takes on Craig, Grant and guest Marc Hockley as they go head to head in Classic Original Trilogy Trivial Pursuit.

Join in and answer the questions before they do and see how you get on.

Will Jez deliver? Will Grant send that email to Parker Brothers? Will Craig answer a question that isn't Princess Leia as an answer? Is Marc Hockley really there to make up the numbers (according to Jez)?

Listen in and find out.

Enjoy the show.

Brilliant episode guys.
Great to hear Grant back on the airwaves again.
He came up with a very good point about what we class as "modern".
This term is too all encompassing now, what with all the new VT and black series figures.
It would make sense that the POTF2 range. possibly including figures from the prequels were in a new sub class, possibly called "classic".
The problem is that I suspect that there won't be enough people to care...🤔😔 especially amongst the "big names" of the hobby.

Keep up the great work...although if you could slow down a bit and allow me to catch up I would appreciate it...🤣
Happy new year to you all.

Totally agree with his comments too, kind of needs some defining for sure.

THE MODERN WAY : EPISODE X

The Modern Way returns as Craig, Mark, Grant, Dan and Stuart get together to look at a whole host of modern topics.

Now the dust has settled on the second season of The Mandalorian, the boys take some time to revisit the toys from the show. They delve into what we've already received and then discuss their hopes for what we could see in the future. We also take a look at a poll that ran across several collector Facebook groups and what the general hopes are from the community.

The team revisit all of Lucasfilms announcements back in December and discuss the impact that so many projects will have on the world of toys. Will we see a flooded market place with just main characters? Are background characters now a thing of the past?

As well as all this, we look at the recent announcements for Black Series, Hot Toys, Gentle Giant, Toy Box and Funko Pops, as Mark falls deep in love with the Valentine Pops that have been announced.

Enjoy the show.

What a great collecting journey to read grant. Just shows that you can get there in the end if you are prepared to wait and I'm hopeful that one day you will end up with the sealed (or resealed), figure, you really do deserve it. :D

That was a super read! Really interesting and it just goes to show that in this hobby, you never can tell what you'll find. It also serves as a warning to us all to be very careful before claiming something doesn't exist!

THOSE OLD FOSSILS : EPISODE VIII

Reproductions in the vintage toy hobby has been a source of topic once again recently.

Stuart, Craig and Mark are joined by special guest Lee Bullock to discuss the issue.

Retroblasting's, Michael French, recently posted a video defending the use of reproduction items in the hobby and attacking the anti-repro groups. All four of the hosts on this show sit firmly in the anti-repro camp, BUT, does the repro supporting members of the hobby have a point, a reasoned argument so to speak. The team take the main points from the video and discuss them in depth. What damage do reproductions do to the hobby? Were reproductions more accepted in the earlier days of the hobby? Is there a place for reproduction in the hobby? Could the Facebook groups do more with regards to reproduction? Is it time to change opinions on reproductions? The boys discuss all these issues and many more and try to give a balanced discussion with regards to reproductions. Does the conversation change their stance? You'll have to listen in.

But that's not all this month as Craig has come up with an original way to display his loose collection away from the norm. He goes through it bit by bit. Is it a cool way to display? Or has he lost the plot?

All this plus much more from this months Old Fossils.

Enjoy the show.
