FAKES..

I sent this bloke a message saying that he really shouldn't be selling this item as an original when it clearly isn't and he sent me this reply:

"Im sorry I was miss-informed about the item. It has now been
changed. I do hope this has not caused you too much offence.
Thank you for raising your concerns.

- adrianl2926"

It looks like all he's done is changed the item specifics part to original (opened) and in his item description he's changed it from 1988 to 1980's! Classic!

Ohhh he's totally covered himself now, no one could possibly be pissed if they bought that!

A really, really bad vinyl Jawa - apparently he paid £300 for it... ouch

He knows exactly what he is doing, playing dumb on the chance that someone will think its a bargain....a load of bollocks, if i could be arsed i send him a message calling him a tosser

Dragon Dan is about as dodgy as they come, just like his last ebay shop.

FAKE Gold (Chrome) Darth Vader Case on eb@y

Just a heads to everyone on this auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Metalized-Gold-...455?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c161d1ad7

I'm pretty thick skinned, but I've even had enough from this guy. Several people contacted me the first time he had it listed (for $299),
and advised them that this is NOT an authentic piece. Aside from the numerous red flags, the most glaring is gold chrome on the inside of the case.

The seller has changed his story several times and oddly enough, this time I (slightly) believe him:

"I purchased this case over 15 years ago at a flea market from a non toy dealer. There is some color mottling from old age (gold and silver transitions) but the case as you can see is in excellent condition. All the snaps work and the hinges have been split. There is the metalized process inside, but as you can see it didn't cover all and the interior of the case is black.
*********Please Read: Now I guess there is a lot of speculation on the web on which cases are real, and which are knock-offs. I suggest you look at the pics carefully, do your homework and make your own decision. I cannot confirm or deny that this is authentic, I just don't know. What I do know is I have only seen one other pic of a gold metalized Vader case on the web, period.**********"

It pretty much speaks for itself, but at least his time frame is correct. These fake/repro cases were sold via Toy Shop by a dealer in the US, which was ... you guessed it; about 15 years ago.
So, consider this your "homework" done: It isn't real, he can't guarantee the authenticity himself, does not accept returns.
For bonus points, since he says in the auction "I have only seen one other pic of a gold metalized Vader case on the web, period.", here is a handy tool I found the other day, called "Google" or something like that ;)

Google Search : "Gold Vader Case"

http://www.google.com/search?q=Gold...s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

I think the 1st 5 listings alone should pretty much cover it.

Fake or just an arsehole? , too good to be a custom hack job? Recarded backwards on a "prototype" card?
Suspiciously like the new vintage sculpt fett? hmmmm

Cheers for the heads up Bill. I hope no one on here would be taken in by that, but then you never know!

As for Jediretro cards, yeah he's pretty well known for selling recards by the bucket load.

No problem guys. Like I said, I'm pretty thick skinned, and it takes a lot to get me riled up over something, but this guy has certainly
done it. Aside from changing his stories numerous times, he went as far as to call me out IN the first auction listing. He pointed out
information my site, then turned around and says he "has only seen one other Gold Case on the web, period". So I can only assume
he doesn't have the power of sight being that I have the actual pics of the item I'm describing in my listings. ;)

The problem with these cases very much parallel the debates over vintage repro pieces. These were made *as* reproductions by a
dealer who advertised in "Toy Shop", and were sold as such. (Around $150usd at the time). The issue is now, and has been when
these cases have filtered down over the years, and people either knowingly try to pass them off as real, or an unsuspecting collector
has purchased one, and doesn't know the difference. (This guy is the former) The cases look good at first glance, so I felt there was
real potential for someone to get taken by this.

The only thing I can really give him credit for this time around is at least he is upfront about not knowing if the case is authentic.

Yes, i think i made that point about reproductions. And my problem with selling/producing ANY and ALL repros that are designed to look like a vintage piece.
This is what happens. It's an inevitability. The responsibility has to be taken at stage one. When selling a reproduction piece one should assume, and would be naive not too, that it will be sold dishonestly at one point. It makes no sense to me to see that as morally correct even from the "honest" first stage.

I reckon the odds that the R2 sticker is original are pretty small, the seller is Dragon Dan. Notice how he doesn't make any statement regarding the legitimacy of the sticker.
