It says a lot about a so-called big club who are dreaming about finishing as high as 7th just to get into Europe !!

I wouldn't get too excited though, even if you do manage to sneak in the toffees are bound to lose in the opening round anyway !!

Oh I don't know, I'm very hopeful Everton will match Liverpool's trophy haul this season...ie f*ck all!

Are Liverpool planning anything special for their fast approaching 20th anniversary of not winning the league? Perhaps a joint celebration with their 'rivals' Utd who'll be winning their 10th in that time - they might let you hold one. Massive club, Massive!

European trophies not count then?

Getting board of winning them!
We won that wee one, what's it called the eeehhhhhh thingey ma-jig cup................. Champions league (European Cup) that's it!

In the time United have won 10 league titles they have won 1 CL, Liverpool have matched that despite not winning a single title.

Ohh and we're still in that this season, so we can still win it. Everton will be winning **** all this season and the next and the next...........

I agree with Craig, Everton will only loose in the first round anyway. The FA would be as well letting someone like Milwall enter again, at least they would make a decent fight of it (pun intended)!

10 league titles and 1 Champs League does not match 0 league title and 1 champs league - its not even on the same planet..

Liverpool are a bigger club than Everton, I'll conceed, your probably the 4th largest in England. Everton probably 6th? 9 League Titles and 5 FA Cups puts us 4th in the all time domestic honours list but I'll concede Chelsea with their 3 legue titles and 6 trillion quid in the bank are a bigger club than Everton at present. Attendances? We're about 6th, current league position? 7th. History? We built your pokey little ground for you and were a founder member of the league, winning titles when you barely existed. We also made the top 20 richest clubs list in the world season before, not bad for a 'small club' 6 out of 92 odd league clubs during our worst run in our history aint bad, we will endure and we'll be back.

True we've only won one FA Cup in the last 20 years but that still puts us near the top 6 most succesful in current times as the top 4 have won virtually everything going in that time. Chelsea Man Utd and Arsenal have all won league titles, at least 2 in that time - A league is the true test of a teams ability over 38 games, not via a knock out tournament - look at Greece, current Euro champions! Arsenal have won 2 doubles, reached a champs league final also and have 60'000 seater stadium.

If your just going on history, fine your probably top but that puts us the 4th largest, winning as many leagues as Chelsea Spurs Man city and Newcastle put together!

So which ever way you look at it were a big team. 4th most succesful domestically. Depends on your definition, all things considered I'd put you third largest team in England us about 6th - not a million miles away really. Record transfer fee - yours Ã'£12 million ours Ã'£8.5 Million. Again not a million miles away.

Point is your not as big as you think you are...people in glass houses etc etc....nowadays theres plenty bigger than Liverpool worldwide. Utd have eclipsed you by such an extent, its hard to justify calling them rivals anymore, I'd say Arsenal and Chelsea are more their rivals given the fact they have competed with them for the title in recent years. true, they don't like you very much, but they don't like Leeds very much either and look at them - hardly call them rivals!

We'll do better in Europe this time round if we don't get Villareal, eventual semifinalists and a ref playing in his last game who gives a mysterious foul in the last minute to deny 5 english teams going through to the Champs league. Maybe if we'd bent the rules and thrown our teddy at Uefa to get into the competition, and ended up with the Welsh champions in the qualifier, we'd have stood a better chance.

Can't beat a good footy rant - feel free to fire back!

I'll be perfectly honest with you, right now I don't have the mental energy to even think of a full response. One of them days, actually no weeks/months and so far years in work!

I'll give the point about Villareal, I was actually hoping to see Everton qualify (believe it or not) and you did get a nightmare draw and a dodgey decision.

Everton 6th largest/biggest team in premiership? Who is fifth then? Spurs/Newcastle? What about Forrest? more European cups than league titles but, still as many CL's as United!

Ohh and yeah Chelsea are a big club thanks only to A LOT of very dodgey Russian money! (But, no one likes Chelsea)

Blimey 2stripes that was a long read !!

Do you define a big club in terms of financial success or in terms of trophies or both?

Financially Chelsea and Man Utd are bigger than us which makes us the 3rd biggest club in the league but if you are talking about actually winning trophies in a clubs history we are number 1 !!

I don't see where you are coming from in terms of the biggest fee paid though and ours was 14 million for Cisse not 12.5 !! In recent seasons Spurs and Newcastle have probably spent just as much overall as us recently.

We may not have won the league for a very long time but even in this decade alone we have won 1 Champions League, 1 UEFA Cup, 2 European Super Cup, 2 FA Cups, 2 League Cups and 2 Community Shields so I think we have done okay !!

Everton WERE a big team for a couple of years in the eighties but now you are just a small club, not only behind the BIG 4 but also Spurs, Bolton and Newcastle !! :p

I was being polite Jabba but I agree with everything you say !!

big clubs

they are only big because of us , the fans

who cares who's 3rd or 6th as long as you enjoy watching your team what else matters . do you think the people who go and watch doncaster or boston, talk about how they are the 55th biggest club in england.... no they just love watching their club.
the feeling of hope rise in you as your players are bearing down on goal or the dread as the last minutes approach and they are under the kosh. thats what the game should be about , not sabre rattling or we're bigger than you ....... as we all know utd are no 1

Well thats it really, how do you define a big club, Rafa said we were a small club so I suppse you should ask him for the definitive answer

Point of my post (article?) was really that by any criteria Everton are not a small club. I personally would say its whats in your trophy cabinet, thats what you compete for and when you win a title, its in the history books and no one will take it away from you. Will school boys be looking at clubs honours lists in 50 years yes, will they be intrested in Chelsea's ludicrous profit and loss sheets - no! So hats off to you, your number one but by that reckoning we're the 4th most sucessful club in English football history. As for being a big club for a couple of years in the 80's, by the end of the 60's I would say we possibly won more league titles than any other club 7 (I aint certain of that) So really we were a big (biggest?) club for the first 90 years of our existence.

We get used to being called the bitters - mainy because we got kicked out of Europe for 6 years as did all English clubs after Hysel and after winning the league by and all time record margin and looking to have our own golden time in Europe - we have yet to recover to anywhere near that level. So you get called small and you respond of course and then you get called bitter.

Your right tho Jay spot on, 'size isn't everything' as they say but like I said people in glass houses...If you want to consider yourself 'the' greatest team in England and start dictating the size of the other clubs around you, the odd league title here and there wouldn't go a-miss.

Jabba, I sit next to a red at work we argue constantly, he's still one of my best guys you could meet tho. It aint personal mate I'm just quoting stats and the odd little dig. No need to tell me to **** off and a suck up..Your just the local rivals, every team has one!

Surely when the arguement is who is a "big club" it is based on fairly recent sucess and Evertons was in 1985 and 1987 which is not that recent !!

Otherwise you have to consider the likes of Burnley and Blackpool big clubs because they won so many trophies many, many years ago !!

True, I'll concede that although I think we have other strings to our bow, 40,000 attendences, currently 7th top flight status longer than any other club (only 4 years out of the top flight in about 130 years). What ever we are we're not a small club by any stretch.

Whether one club is a bigger club than another is missing the point tho, Liverpool are a far 'better' football club than chelsea I have to concede that, they have earned their trophies not had them bought for them, the fans have an identity, the club has a brand recognised world wide, theres some substance to the club thats missing at Chelsea - its depressing hearing them sing "shall we buy a ground for you?" when you play them.

Look at Everton after Hilsborough, you never here any chants concerning that in a terrace culture where anything goes on - the 1989 final was without any serious segregation and it passed off as a fitting tribute. It takes a decent club and first class supporters to be able to allow that to happen. I just hope we don't sell our soul for a quick cash injection and move to some souless stadium called the Tesco arena, the clubs worth more than that.

Anyway I'm starting to bore myself, if we get a Uefa spot next year I'll be happy as its another step back to where I think we belong. I'll leave it at that!

i thought you liked the banter, telling you to **** of is mild compared to some arguements i have had with my manc friends.there has been bottles thrown before
it was never meant in a nasty way anyway, i should have put a emoticon on the post.no hard feelings still want you to name 10 bigger clubs.

ps everton are a small club

 no worries mate.

Depends what you mean by big...Celtic have won more league titles bigger stadium so have Rangers, much weaker league though admitedly. No doubt Liverpool make the top 10 in a few criteria European cups for one.

P.P.S Peoples club.

Gotta say 2stripes, I'm with Jabba, I wanna know who the 10 teams are. I can name about 6/7 who are bigger than Liverpool but after that it's 6 of one half a dozen of the other.
