england euro squad

I can't stand Terry as a person but would rather have him in the England team than Ferdinand

England have gone from having an embarrassment of riches at CB to being rather short - Jones, Smalling and even Dawson might be the future (along with Cahill) but at the moment I think the Terry - Lescott partnership is the best we have

The important thing is what the history books say, not whow was unluckly or hard done by. It doesn't matter how, Chelsea won the cup, and Man U won zip. It doesn't matter to me because I don't care for either of them.
He's a total wanker, but if you don't think Terry finished the season with a bigger smile on his face than Rio, you must all be bonkers!
If he was the best man to lead England, Hodgson should be able to turn Richards.

Terry undoubtedly finished the season the happier of the 2 players. I never thought that was up for debate. Terry won trophies and Rio didn't therefore Terry is the far happier man. Obviously. Tho completely irrelevant to the discussion.

"Rio, at least, plays for a team that challenged for the premier league and bar a 94th minute goal would have won it"

Not really any less relevant than that comment Pete. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't pick either of the old timers :)

How close the team you play for came to winning the premier league says a lot about the quality of the team and the player and what kind of form that player is in. That's the whole concept of the premier league. It's THE most relevant element one must look at when choosing your team of "the best" and most "in form" players for the England squad.

If not Rio or Terry - who would be our current centre backs considering current injuries/squad snubs ?

Jagielka - Lescott ?

and who would be back up ?

Jones & ?

If I was picking the team I'd get Razor Ruddock and Jack Charlton outta retirement!

WHAT!?? I'm not English, I don't care if you lose horribly, I just wanna laugh! 8)

Then I think you're in for a treat Weasel

Nah I genuienly think England will surprise a few people. I could see them making the semis. No more than that though. It's always the way, when you have your weakest squad for years and no expectation that's when you do well. Everyone knows they have to pull their weight as there is no super star to give the ball to and hope he wins it for you.

Alternatively they could get horribly hoked in every game and finish bottom of the group.

Heard that Defoe has had to fly home after the sad death of his father!

Looks like we are thin on the ground for Striker particulary while Rooney is suspended.
