Recently bought a job lot of figures and a clear blue Snaggletooth was in amongst them. I cant find anything about it on the internet at all.
It is a red snaggletooth - GMFGI - 1978 (I think hard to see last number)

It has all the details of the red snaggletooth but is blue and see through.

My guess is that it is unpainted?

Anyone got any ideas? Is it rare? What would its value be?

I have pictures but they were to large to download on here and new to all this.

Cheers Dave

Sounds interesting but will need to see some pics - try resizing them or loading them onto flickr/photobucket

I have just been looking 'pon line and it is a bit of a dead end...

There are some fake prototypes floating around for blue snag (non painted), and lots of fake blue snags that are light blue.

But your description confuses me, is it see through like a 'hologram' figure but blueish and the same height as a red snag?

Either way it will be nice to see if you follow up your post with some pics...

Oh, and welcome to SWFUK try the introduction thread too.

Never heard of such a thing as either a variation or a prototype or preproduction item so very likely a custom.

As you can see we are all very enthusiastic to see some pictures. if you are having trouble uploading you could email them to me or another member and we can upload for you.

Bought a few items from Dave the other day and he sent the pics of this strange snaggletooth to me for a look, i didn't have a scooby to be honest! so here they are (he was happy for me to upload them :) )

Thanks for putting the pics on12

It has all the correct markings and is GMFGI 1978 Hong Kong

You can see right through it

there are numbers on the inside of the back and an A below the belt on the inside of the figure

Arms and legs move and it has the holes in both feet.

It is the snaggletooth figure but with no paint. Is this how the figures looked before they were painted?

Has this somehow made its way out of the factory before painting?

He does look cool,

But I would say he is a modern custom, rather than a vintage piece. I am not sure when this kind of 'see through' plastic came into use but it was well after the seventies in the Star Wars toy scene...

Too hazard a guess I would say someone has made a mold from a red snag, and melted down some modern hologram pieces (probably the small ones) to fill the mold. Hey presto a Hologram Snag.

I do like it though as it is so different, I am usually not a fan of the hologram figures, they are just lazy revenue generators made from existing molds in my eyes.

Thanks for sharing him with us and I am looking forward to see others opinions on his creation.

BTW unpainted figures are not see through, just the base colour of the figure, unpainted AT AT Commander is grey, unpainted Walrus man is orange, blue and green (no eyes, hands or boots painted).

Thanks for that.

He looks old and very worn in places.

Not an expert on molds etc how would the numbers have got on the inside?

Sorry if this is a daft question

I'd say it was a modern custom but it is certainly a bit different

Provenance is the key with anything like this - did the seller say where it had come from, how he'd got hold of it - and were there any other 'stange' items within the lot ?

I will try and contact the buyer asap. I bought his whole collection which had a wide range of figures in. I nearly gave this figure to my little lad but then looked closer and thought would try and do some research as it confused me a little. My pics don't really do it justice. You can see numbers on the inside of the body. Will be back if I find out anymore.

Very strange that the guy who sold it to you didnt mention it - especially if there was nothing else notable in the purchase. I'd say it was definitely a custom but a very good one. Does it feel like the same plastic or is it very bendy and flexible? Are the edges rough?
