Hi all,

New to collecting but am intending to put items I collect in a free standing display cabinet ... does anyone have any advice on the best types of cabinet for display purposes on both plastic and card e.g to reduce sun damage etc or if the cabinet has lighting, what is the best to go for?

Equally, if you think it's a really bad idea, then let me know.

The figures I'm intending to display are loose and a few smaller items (Wampa, speeder bike). I presumed if I get any carded figures in the future then the acrylic cases would be useful.

Any advice appreciated, thanks, James

Check out some of the limelights - there are some great displays in there

Two of my favourites are Jez's and Jackabina's - both of whom use the Ikea Detolf Cabinets - Jez I think has six at least count

Cheers Ian - the ikea cabinet looks great for the money, and is exactly what I was looking for.

I'm sure I've been hassling you on eBay for a few weeks now too.... And I know my post must be pretty mundane to someone such as yourself who has been there and done that... so thanks for your response!

I also noted your amazing collection

Edit: found Jay's display ... Again, exactly what I had in mind, thanks.

Can't go wrong with the Detolf cabinets. Ideal for small items. Also Iain & Christian (GW Acrylic) have some real nice tier stands that suit them perfectly.

No worries at all - and certainly not mundane - always good to have new people in the hobby - and the early days are the most exciting as you need just about everything

The only thing I would add is whatever you go for get something with a door/doors, put it out of direct sunlight away from windows and if you light it use LED lights as they don't damage plastic/card. Happy collecting :)

Jez's and Jackabina's displays are the perfect examples of how to use a detolf. I quite often go back and look at Jez's collection especially as it's so bloody well displayed.

Thanks to you all for the good advice.

I found Jez's limelight on the display thread, and am definitely intending to use that as a model for what will probably be a somewhat more modest collection, but one I will be well pleased with!

I've also picked up a couple of acrylic stands from Iain as they look as though they fit perfectly in the detolf/ikea cabinet... Now I'm giving myself six months to put together something respectable enough to post on here!

Anything (as long as its not Jar Jar) will be well received, 1 loose figure or a Palitoy 12 back VCJ focus, we all start somewhere. Welcome aboard!
