Did they ever release.......

The rebel Trooper was the one me and my mates always really wanted as kids.
It's madness we had to wait until a 31 back to really get some infantry fire power to take on those Stormies!
Moff Tarkin & Garindan defo. Even just a green uniformed Imperial commander would have been good.
I always wanted the cantina bar tender too, and used to think it was Snaggletooth that had is arm chopped off, until it finally came out on video.
Sandtrooper would have been great, and I was always jealous the Americans had a Dewback, and an escape pod with their LOTJ playset.
As the cloth cape thing stated happening I was half expecting a new Vader & Ben as well.
This may sound a bit weird, but I always wanted them to do some Cloud City civilians as well.
Captain Antilles too.

Karl.

Hello everyone very interesting post i think they would have made a lot more figures if the popularity of star wars toys had not died like it did dose anyone know did Kenner plan to release any others at the time

Karl, Were you UK based as a kid?

I always used to use the Death Squad commander as a Rebel soldier :D

Ignore above question, I've seen in another thread that you were.

Did you know about the US releases of things like the dewback as a kid?

I had no idea the US had anything different to us until the mid 90's when I bought a collectors book.

Yeah Gary, some of the figures I picked up as a child were on Kenner cards.
I can only guess this was to aid Palitoy with the demand in the UK.
I clearly remember seeing, and wanting a Dewback, and being disappointed that we didn't get an escape pod with our LOTJ.
I also remember seeing the weird Droid Factory (Like J's Dungeon), and a Tie Fighter on card backs, what seemed like an eternity before it came out over here.
I don't ever recall being aware of the US Death Star, or the RC Sandcrawler though.
They where a very pleasant suprise to me in the mid 90's.

I only every had Kenner Star Wars figures as a kid. The first time i saw a Palitoy logo was when i joined this forum a year and a half ago.

I still have some Kenner cardbacks from my childhood. Didn't realise they were here that early in the run though as a 20 back as I think that's the earliest card on which the Dewber and Kenner LOTJ is pictured!!

I couldn't believe what I was seeing when I saw them in a book in 94!! 8)

even better when i got hold of both.

I do remember seeing the Kenner Death Star here though, and that must have been late 70's. Had no idea it was a different version. I thought it was a rebel base

I new kenner cards were here, just never realised they were shipped in that early, especially when Palitoy 12 backs are still not that hard to come by!

So did you both have Star Wars kenner cards?

Yeah but then i wasn't collecting SW toys till 82-83 when i was only 4 and 5 years old. So it was mostly Jedi cards and i remember getting a few ESB cards when i was very young and you would see the odd one in the shops. Always Kenner. I remember when i started collecting again a couple of years back it was THAT Kenner logo that held so much nostalgia for me.
Admittedly, there may have been ROTJ Palitoy cards around tho as they have no logo i wouldn't have noticed.

Yeah, Defo Gary.
Can't say if there were Kenner 12 backs, but defo BOTH Kenner & Palitoy cardbacks for 20 backs, and onwards.
I kept a lot of my cardbacks as a kid to tick off got's & want's, and specifically remember being fascinated with the Dewback. (Don't have them now unfortunately)
I also remember seeing the Fett pic, the odd looking with the firing rocket, so that must have been 20 back. Then I remember later getting a Palitoy leaflet advertising the mailaway Fett. It had arrows pointing to various features. I poured over that leaflet 1000's of times as a kid, and I don't think it mentioned the rocket firing, but it was still a disappointment when he turned up and didn't fire, as I had that memory from the pic.
I know childhood memories can blur things a little, especially now we have access to so much SW vintage info, but I can say with 99.9% certainty that I had carbacks with the Dewback on it as a kid.
That's why it was one of the first things I wanted to find when I started collecting again in the 90's, with just a distant memory, and not even knowing if they ever came out.
I loved it when I finally got my hands on one of those US Death Star's as well. :D

All I have to say is I always wanted a "Porkins" figure, the chubby rebel pilot that said, "they came from.... behind." and was then blown up.

They would have to do an explaoding X-wing to go with that figure, just the Tie-Fighters with their pop off wings!! :D

It's really interesting just how different two people's experience of Star Wars toys could be. Are you a 70's child?

I was indeed a 70's child Gary.
Born in Newcastle 73, and I think it was 79 when we moved to Shropshire.
It seems like there was certainly quite a bit of randomness in how the toys were distributed.
I do remember clearly that when I went up to Newcastle, as a kid I would see things that I couldn't get in Shrewsbury.

Am I to take it that the Kenner Death Star was actually available in some places in this country then?

I'm fairly certain I saw it in my local toy shop. I already had the palitoy one and can remember walking past the shop window and seeing it in there and thinking they'd released a rebel base.

Years later when I saw a picture of one in a collectors book, I instantly recognised it!!

Makes you wonder what other kenner items made there way over here. Have heard there was A-wings here too.

I didn't know any other kid who had the Palitoy death star when I was a kid. In fact i started with star wars much earlier than a lot of my friends so had the earlier items they couldn't get.

I only ever saw 4 of the last 17 in shops!!

Wow, I'd have been blown away if I'd have seen one as a kid.
I got mega excited as an adult, seeing one for the first time in a collectors shop in Manchester in the mid 90's.
I also had the Palitoy one as a kid, but I'm afraid to say the Kenner one blows it out of the water. Broke just too easy! :(
Most of my friends were same age or mostly older than me, so I was the one to collect the longest, until I gave into the whole peer pressure of still having toys thing.
Mates with older brothers crumbled first! I collected the first 76. I think Rancor Keeper was the only mailaway that I didn't get, and Pap & Lumat weren't on the go.

I remember seeing Imperial Dig in a bargain bin in a department store after I'd stopped, so was aware there was some more, but not another 17.
I remember a lad at secondary school that liked Bucks Fizz, who told me that there was a load more, including Luke Stormtrooper.
I didn't believe him about the Luke, like I said, he liked Bucks Fizz!
Who got the last laugh there? Him & Bucks Fizz no doubt!

An A-Wing over here is pretty impressive.
I don't have an A-Wing at all, but it would be pretty impressive if someone could come up with an A-Wing with an original british price sticker on it to see!
If you remember the DS, there perhaps could have been other Kenner versions of early stuff over here.
What about Euro versions of stuff too.
Does anyone ever remember getting a Euro version of something as a kid, that made it specifically different?
