There's an auction house just round the corner from me so thought we would just take a look. Last time I went in there were boxed vintage Scalextric cars, so you never know..

Walked in and saw a nice 50's glass display case containing various items. Looked further inside the case and in among the crap, what's that? ...8 mint Star Wars 12 backs!

My amazement was short lived however. Closer inspection showed them all to be fake re-cards. I even mentioned it to some bloke who was gazing at them. Must have thought I was having him on because I heard him talking about it to his mate - "some Star Wars collector said they are fake. Might be interesting"

In the end conscience got the better of me and I phoned up reception who said that people had been asking. They will now be listed as re-cards. Weird though :? This place is 5 minutes walk from me. I go in for the first time in years and there's these MOC's. What are the chances?

Apologies for the crap picture. Taken on camera phone which is rubbish :x

If anyone is wondering, the cards were obviously fake. The print colour was wrong. They were all starting to split along the layers of the card which fakes do. The footers are wrong, and they were all too flat and clean looking for items that are currently piled up inside a crappy auction house.

fakes are everywhere these days not just online. because its in the wild we assume there genuine well i do untill closer inspection lol:

looking at your picture I can also see the stormtroopers gun is taped inside the bubble (never know, might be the only one  ).

Worth looking in on though when there's an auction as it's how I won a sealed 12 back Palitoy Luke a few years back with 3 other sealed Palitoy 12 backs (the two droids and Darth). You never know what can turn up at these local auction houses. :D

It occurred to me that the figures would be worth having. That's about it though, and you can guarantee some bidders will go crazy because it says Star Wars on it. Weapons will no doubt be fake if the seller has gone to these efforts.

On a positive note, the auction people were pleasant to deal with. They thanked me for my input. Glad to have helped and potentially saved someone from buying a load of crap :)

It's from Jason Joiner's collection. He brought a photo album along to FF4 and allowed people to look through. I took a few photos of the album and his amazing MOC collection.

I think only myself and a few others have these sort of photos. I'll see what I have. Might ask JJ (Ace) if he's ok with it first though.

Best place to look is on the FFIV event thread. Loads of good photos there.

Had a look and pretty much all the decent photos I took are here

JJ has/had an amazing collection. This is mainly down to the fact that he was one of the very few who actually had the forethought to buy up old stock just as it was going out of fashion in the mid eighties.

Yeah, you can tell right away even from that poor picture that they are fake. Someone still could have been done tho.

I was only in there for half an hour and saw plenty of folk sniffing round them. Auction is today but i'm too busy to go and watch some unlucky bidder get screwed. I just bet someone there thinks they know better and pays through the nose

I did my bit at least. Kind of like the Star Wars police :)

I was at a local auction house about 3 weeks ago, they had a bunch of POTF2 and newer star wars MOC's. People were going nuts over these things... I think there was about 30 carded 90's figures there... I stuck around to make some non star wars purchases. When these figs hit the block, they did a "choice" bid... which means the highest bidder gets his choice of 1 figure... it bid up to $15 USD. After you win a "choice" auction, you can buy as many as you want for the price you won 1 figure at... He bought all 30 figures for $15 a piece..... $450 for 30 MOC's of 90's junk he will be lucky to resell for $50.

I guess the moral of my story is... people trying to buy toys for resale (he was not a collector by any means) at auctions seem to think anything Star Wars related is worth a ton of money. I wish I could have seen his face as he did his Ebay searches to place values on each figure....

I guarantee whomever bought those fakes, paid a legit price for them out of pure ignorance.

Respectfully,

Jack
