Collecting changes

I used to buy and sell loads of stuff on eBay using cheques, forgot about that. Now we get pissed off if we buy something and it doesn't arrive the next day

I was buying loose back in early 00's right left and centre quite often i posted the wrong cheques to people out

like you said sometimes you would have to wait 2-3 weeks for your items because cheques had too clear.

Hi all,

Long time lurker, first time poster. I'm now at the ripe old age of 30, but I started collecting when I was about 10. My uncle gave me a load of my cousin's toys and that was it for me, no more Ninja Turtles. I remember going to the NEC shows around 95/96 with my dad and picking up a MIB Radar Laser Cannon and Tripod Laser Cannon for about £10 each! Back when MIB actually meant, unapplied stickers, original insert and a box that looked fresh out of the case and not like it had been 6 rounds with a rancor. I still enjoy going to the NEC shows and I need to get myself to FF, but I do find eBay a depressing place at the moment. So much rubbish is being passed off as 'highly collectable' and 'super rare' and I think it is harming the enjoyment of the hobby, so I try to steer clear of it now, some of the prices are astronomical for fairly average stuff (£90 for a loose scuffed up Darth Vader case anyone?!). I talked to a lad not long ago, probably in his late teens early twenties at a car boot, who was trying to tell me that his battered loose Jawa without a cape or accessories was 'worth at least £150'. I've had about 20 years of off-and-on collecting, I had a bit of a blip when I went to university and I briefly thought that girls and beer was a better way of passing my time, I soon realised that vintage Star Wars and beer is a far better combination. So for me, I'm looking forward to going to the next FF to see if I can find that enthusiasm and some of the thrill that I had during the early days of collecting. Maybe I'm just getting old and miserable. But then again, that's just the way I like it.

Andy

P.S Acme Toys in Erdington is still there, I was in there a few weeks back. They have a few decent bits and pieces but if you're in the Midlands / Warwickshire area then Metropolis Toys is great. It's a bit pricey but it's top quality stuff!

Ahhhhhh yes the old days of not posting items until the cheque cleared, so a minimum of 6 days after the auction end, trying to find a stamp to send out the payment envelope. Seems like a totally alien concept now.

What's the name of the Facebook page?

There are loads mate. The main uk based selling ones are:

Yavin 4
Jabbas court/jabbas auction
Echo base

Swfuk has a page, as does joes trilogo group.

There's then Jason's massive Vintage Star Wars collectors group, Ross barrs four groups (sw, esb, Rotj and potf) and todds international collectors group.

There's loads of others. I would try some out and see how you get on.

When I used to buy records in the late 90s I always sent postal orders because they had the instant clearance of cash and the security of a cheque. How bizarre it seems that we had to wait for payment to arrive through the post
