You blokes might not know a few of these as they are Aussie cars but,

1. 1976 Holden Kingswood 253 V8
2. 1992 Toyota Hiace
3. Yamaha MX80
4. Suzuki GN 250
5. 1995 Mitsubishi Express
6. Honda VF750 Sabre
7. 1971 Valiant VH Charger 318 V8
8. 1995 Mitsubishi Magna
9. 1992 Mitsubishi Lancer wagon
10. 1991 Toyota Camry
11. Suzuki GSXF 750
12. 1976 TA22 Celica
13. Honda GL1000
14. 1995 Mitsubishi Verada Wagon
15. 2002 Toyota Rav4
16. Currently restoring my wife's 1969 VW Beetle

Started with an Austin Montego and have gone all the way to..

...a Mondeo!

OK I'm not much of a car guy but seriously if you're looking for the best car/money ratio you can't go wrong with a Mondeo.
I'm getting tax bill chills just looking at some of you guy's motors

Good shout Paul, love cars too and my all time favourite is the Jaguar XJS 8)

Haven't ever owned anything that special :(

1st Ford Fiesta 1.1 (97)
2nd Ford Fiesta 1.4 (98)
3rd Ford Fiesta 1.4 (99)
4th Ford Fiesta Ztec Sports (2000) had lots of fun with this one :D
5th Renault Megane Dynamique (2005)
6th & current Renault Megane (2009) & Renault Grand Scenic (2009)

Closest I've got to ever driving anything special is a Ferrari 308 GTB and Ferrari F355 both at Goodwood race track :)

For me now it's all about cost and the Meganes have only cost £30 a year to tax and the MPG is really good, just cant justify spending silly money on a frivolous item like a fancy car that isn't practical or economical.

But of course if I suddenly came into some serious funds then I'd be out like a shot to buy my XJS :D

Yeah the Audi A1 TFSI is zero tax, does really appeal to me for my next car and as you say Stephen good MPG too is important. God we sound like right tight boring old farts  Years ago things like MPG and car tax etc never bothered me

Jealous of you driving those Ferrari's, I bet that was an experience.

I don't really get why people seem to be hooked up on vehicle tax costs, you pay about £30-40 tax on every tank of fuel which adds up to tens time more than the vehicle tax ever does per year!

Every penny counts these days.

Didn't realise you guys pay tax depending on the type of car you own, is this a registration type thing or for insurance?

We generally pay around the $700 per year mark to register an average car here but it differs from state to state, thankfully we also have a club registration scheme for older/vintage vehicles which allows you to drive on club plates for 90 days of the year for roughly $200. It's great as it allows you to own a classic purely for the pleasure of driving it without breaking the bank.

From memory it goes on engine size and emissions. Basically it's just yet another way to bleed money out of people.

That actually sounds more expensive than what we have. Basically it depends on engine size and emissions. So that Impreza above would be at the top end you'd be looking at about £495 per year for that. At the other end a small engine might only cost £30 per year and low- emmision and electric cars are free.

I recognise the Toyota Rav4. I spent a year in Australia in 2000 and brought a Ford Falcon which ran on LPG.
Every now and then it would back fire like Del Boys Robin Relient.

Like many of you Iv owned a lot of different cars. Probably the most reliable and mature car Iv owned was a BMW 330d M-sport. It had a nice balance of power but was still comfortable to drive.

Iv also owned a few sweet motor bikes. The last one I had almost killed me before I killed it. God bless that GSXR it's now it's in bike heaven (the scrap yard). 8)

Paul great idea, cheers for getting this thread started.

1. VW Golf classic red, great first car
2. VW Golf Driver - desperately wanted a GTi but as a young loon couldn't afford the insurance
3. Pug xsi - magic fun
4. Astra GLS
5. Corsa
6. Corsa sxi
7. MK V Golf
8. Golf GTI
In 2007 finally bought my dream car - 3 door black (totally standard) GTI. Really reminds me of the MK 2 and I love it!
Wife has a wee Polo which we use as our daily drive so GTI is just for proper decent long drives. Had it for nearly 8 years now and only done 14,500 miles :D
