Are we more geeky than comic collectors?

MY wife calls me a geek and most of my mates dont give a toss, i get the odd piss take, but generally not much said. Although star wars is my main genre, i love all things vintage i love comics but dont collect them. but i will buy them. I love sci-fi too.

ive never been a sheep and i do my own thing and i certainly dont give a toss what anyone thinks of our hobby.

if i am a geek then im bloody proud to be one

Well said bud - I love other vintage stuff also and nostalgia, thats why forums such as this are great - until I joined on here I didnt know anyone else thought similar to myself!! :D

Some great replays there guys and a lot for me to feel good about!

Scott, who the **** would ever rip the piss out of you!! You look like you eat people's kids for breakfast!!

I asked the family (well I asked the girls) who is more geeky...

They told me Star Wars collectors are much more geeky than comic collectors

Remember: the geek will inherit the earth (especially if has a case load of Palitoy Chewbaccas!)

In all seriousness, I would guess it would be classed more as 'sad' than being a geek. But as Twistedmetal said, they seem to stop the chisels when they find out a piece of cardboard with some plastic attached to it is worth upwards of four figures.

For me, anyway, it's more about nostalgia than geek completism. Still wanna get my full Palitoy run though!

The geek and/or nerd stereotype seems to be changing and harder to pin down. I know quite a few people that break the mold.

When I popped along to the York movie buffs event, the word on the geek street was enthusiasm. We were all out of the house I suppose! I reckon the nature of the word 'geek' has changed a little, from meaning the socially inept bedroom dwelling types into implying a wider enjoyment of sci-fi, video games, comics, etc. or just being a collector. If it weren't for nerds, there'd be no scientific achievement.
A case could be made for one George Lucas to be the crown prince of Nerdland!

Big Bang Theory has a lot to answer for. I'm not sure if it made Science Fiction fans more or less geeky :?

I work in IT, so add that with the love of star wars and i'm screwed..

At least one of my assistants understands, don't think any of the other guys have even seen the films (and they're in their thirties!!)

It's because it's a minority thing, i've been in to cycling for most of my life in one form or another, and 10 or so years ago used to road race, got the piss ripped something rotten back then, especially as my club kit was fluo pink!!

But what do i care what others think, so long as i'm enjoying myself!!

Oh my I must be a total mega geek then not only do i collect Star Wars stuff I also collect comic books from the 80's, Judge Dredd, Sam Slade, Rogue Trooper, Slaine and the ABC warriors and if any one remembers the original pin head Thrud the barbarian, I am a massive thrud fan I have tracked down all his appearances in White Dwarf and his first appearance in Arken sword if any one can remember it? along with 20 something figures of him back from the early 80's I am such a super mega geek I even commissioned a Thrud portrait from Thruds creator Carl Critchlow himself who is an absolutely diamond guy i tracked him down on E-bay of all places and he cracefully accepted my commision this is one of my prized possesions I love Carl's early black and white pen drawings they really take me back to being a kid i think this cements my status as a proud uber geek!

Good pic mate - Exactly why care what others think - folk with hobbies and interests generally live longer also :D

my mates dont take the piss out of me, they tend to think i just sell them, but when they see my cupboard their first words are "oh **** i had those, they were awsome" and they pick them up and have a look lol.

it depends on how far you go into liking something, if you talk all day about star wars, live and breath star wars, dress up as star wars then yeah you go into the geek category lol but its not a bad thing, same as a car enthusiast modding his car and going to car shows ect.

at the end of it all who gives a ****, if im happy i dont care :)

Judge Dredd, 2000AD :D I love that also. Just got back into it and bought Case Files Vol.5 which came highly recommended with the return of Judge Death stories. I also have framed vintage JD/2000AD, MAD and Beano comics up in my house. It's a geek paradise :p My wife doesn't mind them and she doesn't have nerdy tendencies so that must mean something ...i'm not sure what though :?

@Jambobbyb - White Dwarf  Loved that magazine, they have got this months in my local newsagents but is sealed in cellophane and can't be flicked through :(

Maybe I should stop being tight and just buy it

Nice to see some Comic and White Dwarf geeks kicking around! Love 2000AD, Judge Death is a top character and the Dredd strips drawn by Brian Bolland are ace! i liked the Angel Gang they should have got much more paper/ink time IMHO!
