I guess a little like Star Wars figures, I was a big fan of Saclextric when I was a kid in the 80s, had about 20 cars and heaps of track. Got bored when I was a teenager and Dad sold it all for about Ã'£20.

Anyway, like vintage Star Wars figs, in the last couple of months I've suddenly rekindled my spirit for it. Got myself a load of track and plenty of cars. Buying the old classic stuff I used to have as a kid and restoring them for display as well as others to race. Some of the new stuff is also pretty cool and rapid as **** - big magnets in 'em nowadays keep cars glued to the track.

Pissing the missus off tho as it takes up more space than Star Wars stuff. Need to buy a big house with my own 'hobby' room for SW/Scalex.

Anyone out there also collect Scalextric or just like a good razz occasionally? If anyone's interested I will post some pics of my cars.

I had a set but I was never into it. My parents house was way too small to have it all laid out plus having the cars constantly fly off the track was very annoying !!

i think now i relise i never had one as a kid as my dad relised the hassle of setting them up .but when little jabba is a few years older he is gonna have the biggest scarlectric every and i will i mean he will have it laid out in its own room 8) 8)
its great having a little boy

Quality mate! Gonna be a lucky kid. The new scalextric is easy to put together, just clicks. Whole track up and done in 10 mins.

Almost cracked my sister's b/f last weekend - took my cars and track back to my parents, set it up to show them, and the ****wit almost wrecked my brand spanking new mustang. ****er couldn't help but press it full throttle. Gonna have to keep some for display only I reckon. let my mates play with the bangers!

I'll add some pics tomorrow.

Grrrr!

little lad came home from nursery and he has this book about his day .in it it says jayon enjoyed playing with the dolls
so i was straight up stairs took all the weapons of the modern stuff and gave him them .gonna have a word with this nusery

If anyone's interested, here's a couple of photos of the bulk of my collection so far:

Yeah, they're pretty sweet. Had most of them as a kid - like all these things you just wished you had held onto them rather than getting rid of everything for a fiver... Never had the beige beemer or police car and always wanted them. :D

if you could what car out of any film would you have loved for a scarletric

Cracking motors 8)

love the Audi Quattro

The one I always wanted was the Black Trans-am from Smokey and the Bandit with the eagle on the bonnet but I made do with a couple of XR3i's

I recently saw a custom made A-Team van for scalextric on ebay which looked hot. The Dukes of Hazard Charger or Camaro, whatever it was would have been great too.

Film-wise, I dunno. Maybe the Back to the Future Delorian. Perhaps Bond's Lotus from For Your Eyes Only that converted into a submarine.

Yeah the Quattro goes like **** off a shovel. Its front wheel drive - different to the others so it goes round corners quicker :D . Made by Fly though (Spannish firm) not Scalextric.

Got a couple of XR3is too. Great cars - a lot more skill to drive the older cars quick. Any muppet can drive something thats glued to the road with a magnet - my kid sister beat me the other day!

I don't think I ever had a scalextric set as a kid, but I vaguely remember being given a set from some family friends. Their kids had given up playing it, only thing was there were about 200 bits of track and it took us so long to figure out which bits went where that by the time we did we were too ****ed off 2 race.

Some of those cars look familiar so we musta had then, I was never any good at it though, I just floored it the whole time and watched my cars fly off the side. :D
