I'm looking to have some doors fitted and need them to open 180 degrees. I seem to be getting contradictory info on the type of hinges I have to use.

Anyone got any ideas?

You need double acting hinges:

pay someone to do it, it's not a fun job.

Well, I've got people round who are doing some building work and one of the things they are doing is fitting a set of double doors.

I need to provide the hinges. The only ones I've been told I can use are called parliament hinges

they would work but I'm not confident with someone that can not supply the parts to do the job they had planned. I can imagine if the end result is **** they'll just blame your hinges

The people doing the work are here to remove the chimney breasts, replaster but they also do general building work so I've asked to lay laminate wood flooring, rebuild a wall and add a set of double doors.

They would have got the parts but it took me so long to find the doors that I wanted that it was easier for me to buy it and take it round.

Those are called parliament hinges, they are normally used for external doors to provide more "throw" ie the frame is set back far into the reveal. Normal hinges would only provide 90-100 degrees of movement. So you use these: (excuse the crap draw pics)

This is what happens if you use standard butt hinges:

I would measure the distance carefully from the knuckle to the edge of the leaf- dont order them massively bigger than you need. The more throw, the more they drop. If possible you want "washered" hinges- non washered brass hinges are terrible and drop within a few months. The washered are a much better design (some have a ball bearing in the knuckle which eliminates the contact and resulting dropping)
If you are struggling Gary, drop me a pm and I can order you some quality items... it will go a small way to thanking you for the miscard

make sure you check what they support them chimney breast with .also you shouldnt use a gang that does a bit of everything ,you should get a brickie to build ,a plasterer to plaster a roofer for ye roof and so on . i seen loads of gangs where they put the trainee joiner plastering a wall .also you could be paying 500 for plasterer yet he might only get 350 of that cause the guy who sorted job sticks extra on for himself. so at end of job he stuck a bit on everyone and you laid a grand out for a guy to make 5 phone calls
