Held off on this so will go (and these aren't my favourite tracks by these bands by any means)

November Rain Guns n Roses
Walk this Way Aerosmith
Hallowed be thy name Iron Maiden
Perry Mason Ozzy Osbourne
No More Tears Ozzy Osbourne
Crazy Train Ozzy Osbourne
Free Bird Lynard Skynard

could probably add another 50

Your right Rich,
Once you've listed a few favourites you think of a load more...
There are so many great solos, rifts and intros out there!

Into the lungs of hell - megadeth.

Not a solo but one of my favourite riffs is the intro to complete control by the clash.

But my favourite is probably free bird

An album track rather than a headliner, but simply outstanding playing.

however if you want a real domination on a stage of musical Gods, this is up there too from him:

Love the smirks he has with Tom Petty and the others on stage having literally spent half the track just stood silently before stealing the show!

Not so much about the solo, but possibly one of the the purest players and certainly the greatest Blues Guitarist to grace this earth has to be Albert King; the seminal track I'll play the Blues for you showcases just a touch of his effortless style:

I'd recommend listening to the whole album, at least the track, but if its just the solo you want, listen in around 3:15 ish... pure style!

Sorry, would love to know how to embed! such a dunce...

That's a tough question and I'd have to sit for a long time and listen to a lot of my music to come up with one 8) But a few favourites that spring to mind from my youth are: Guns n Roses - Nightrain, Pearl Jam - Why Go, Red Hot Chilli Peppers - My Lovely Man, Rage Against the Machine - Know Your Enemy. There's so many. Could easily put some Soundgarden or Metallica in. And that's without even thinking about all the 60's/70's stuff! Good thread.. I shall ponder this question.
Ooh RATM Tom Morello good alternative shout. Love that album

RATM are definitely on my list too...
As for intros, and solos, I have to mention Eruption by Van Halen... what a tune! :D

There's that many for me but to say narrow it to just one would for me be...

Guns 'n' Roses....November Rain...

Such a great solo...lots of emotion rather than just pure power sounding (for me anyway)

Well, it's completely different to most of the music being mentioned on here but I'm going for the outro on Blur's Beetlebum.

If we're talking about TV themes then the guitar on Ulysses 31 has to be mentioned.

It's been an interesting topic has this, lots of really good suggestions coming through. I know it's hard to pin it down to just one favourite when their are tons out their. I mean I can name most of the songs released by Pink Floyd and Guns and Roses as great listening.

So many great pieces of music we are privileged to be able to listen to over and over again.

Thanks for everyone's contributions 8)

Chuck another few in, not necessarily solos, just great guitar tunes.

Layla - Derek and the Dominos
Purple Haze - Hendrix
Ain't talkin' bout dub - Apollo 440
Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
Gimme Shelter - Rolling Stones
Driving with the top down - Instrumental from the first Iron Man movie
